In my case, it was only a matter of a few weeks before, as we say in German, I would have been looking at the radishes or carrots from below. The disease often progresses frighteningly fast, and the whole course of illness can quickly move in the wrong direction. Even if you manage to overcome it, the recovery process is long and exhausting, not to mention the psychological burden that comes with it. On top of that, there are the strong medicines and chemicals that you have to take to keep the cancer under control. As you get older, they take a toll not only on your body but also on your mind. You become more forgetful, live from one note to the next, and from one day to another. That is not a condition anyone would wish for themselves or for others. I do have an unhealthy fear of the unknown regarding doctors and my health, this stems from a health issue during my childhood. I spent months in a children's hospital and would tearfully beg my mom and dad to take me home every visiting time. That was the only time I spent in a medical facility until a month or so ago where I had to undergo keyhole surgery. Even as my wife was driving me to the hospital, I asked her to turn around and take me back home, that's how scared I was. As luck would have it, the procedure went very well and it was just an over night stay. Yes in our golden age we should have regular checkups although I have shirked a few scheduled doctor visits. I know it is not by any stretch of the imagination a solid indication of all is well but at the age of 72 I don't have any pains associated with old age, I visit the gym 3 times a week and is considered to be very fit for my age and often mistaken to be age 50. The other reason and probably the most important one, I keep fit as my wife is 27 years younger than I so the need to keep up with her is very strong if you read between the lines. Cheers. I know you meant that in an ironic way. My comment was more directed at those who might take this topic too lightly. I completely agree with you, sport is really very important. After my surgery, my doctor told me that because of my earlier years of doing high-performance athletics, I was able to get through the difficult recovery much better than many people who are not active. And I can absolutely confirm that. Thinking positively and going against the current helps a lot, it really makes a big difference.💪 2 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/359177-where-have-all-the-old-members-gone/page/3/#findComment-2842844 Share on other sites

I wish you good health and recovery 👍 You’re absolutely right, saying that one have to check cancer seriously from time to another, without underestimate it. Because it can start suddenly, and if one doesn’t get aware, as it grows quickly, he can sadly become in a very bad situation where no step back! My mother had it in around 1995, and the cost for the later check was one breast cut off after the surgery in clinic, too much hair loss, very poor health, painful on her mind yeah because of the chemotherapy! She’s still alive, merci of the merciful god, she recovered well, but never like she was before! We do have to be carefully aware about our health even if we are well good! 3 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/359177-where-have-all-the-old-members-gone/page/3/#findComment-2842851 Share on other sites
spakk
Thank you very much for your kind words. For the next six months, I have everything behind me, and my test results are stable. During this time, I have realized something that I would like to share with you. I want to encourage people to go for medical checkups early. I have noticed that many people, both young and old, are diagnosed with cancer, and sadly, some of them do not survive. Medicine is making great progress, and many types of cancer that were once incurable can now be treated. However, the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation are still very strong. Scientists are working hard to make these treatments easier and less harmful. Many studies in Europe and the United States are showing good results with vaccines that can keep cancer cells inactive in the body and prevent the disease from coming back or even from developing in the first place. I look to the future with hope and believe that one day many types of cancer can be stopped or controlled through vaccines. 2 1 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/359177-where-have-all-the-old-members-gone/page/3/#findComment-2842853 Share on other sites
Max.1974
I have been reading your stories of resilience, and Esaf’s one reminded me of my childhood. I started working at 12 years old, helping my father in a pharmacy, since he decided to start this business after retiring from more than 40 years of work in a pharmaceutical industry. But before that, at age 7, I suffered a serious accident — just mischievous kid stuff — and I was hospitalized in a children’s hospital for 4 surgeries so that I wouldn’t have to have my right arm amputated. Thank God, today all that remains is a scar with more than 150 stitches, and no sequelae. However, my father passed away in 1994 when I had not yet turned 20. It was lung cancer, and although pulmonary emphysema was detected early, he could not overcome the addiction. Unfortunately. Today I am in good health, but the cases of cancer in my family are frightening, especially because I am the grandson of Italians and Israelites who migrated from Austria to Brazil between 1900 and 1920. Despite her age, my mother was the youngest of 9 siblings. Today I managed to find my path with the Most High, with a well-structured family, children in high school who will soon go to college, and so on. Hacking really is a generous pastime, but despite everything, there are months when work consumes us, and whenever I can, I also do check-ups. Congratulations on your advice and life stories. We are doing well, and I hope you all stay around here, even if it’s just to talk about the Hacks installed on ARM64. RandomTech
Started Hackintosh in Mavericks era, previously had real macs so we can agree I'm not that old Hackintosh user 😊 The best era of Hackintosh to me was Clover UEFI where everything worked. Since OpenCore came out everything changed, Hackintosh became more unforgiving, any small mistake can lead to system or even hardware failure. After all years I realized although Apple cannot fight Hackintosh legally, they're doing it on software and hardware level by making big changes on how hardware works with each small macOS version update, which takes the Hackintosh community time and effort to figure out a workaround solution for it. Lets now address the elephant in the room, almost all Hackintosh websites become money grabbing machines, they even categorize the level of support on how much money you pay. Money isn't the issue here as I fully understand SOME people are working hard to make things work, but lets not forget having a Hackintosh doesn't mean having a reliable machine, is all about tinker and learn and mostly is done for hobby purpose, that's at least for me. 5 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/359177-where-have-all-the-old-members-gone/page/3/#findComment-2842870 Share on other sites
miliuco
Good morning. My first Hack was a HP with hardware compatible with the Apple Developer Kit released to devs to try the new Intel Tiger. It was 2005. It's hard to see that 20 years have already passed. I wasn't young then but Hackintosh has been a very pleasant activity. Now I'm older and I enjoy this like the first day. All things must pass, as the singer says, we all know this. In Spanish we say "que me quiten lo bailado", meaning "They can't take the fun I've had away from me". Well, that's it. ammoune78
Good to see old members are always on the line! But where are the oldest, like, @oldnapalm, @apianti and others? I mean, @MaLd0n disappeared for a long time, and we didn't hear it, until it pops with a message, I didn't remember the month and year exactly, maybe he appeared 6 year ago, and we was happy to see him back really , but some others, maybe, unfortunately does not have enough time, so they can enjoy some hours if they can out from the stress life or things, because of family, work and such a things. I hope they are well and in a very good shape and forms Edited October 29, 2025 by ammoune78 4 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/359177-where-have-all-the-old-members-gone/page/3/#findComment-2842903 Share on other sites

Common_Sense
I think many of us old members started to drop off when there was no support for newer GPUs, we wanted to have the same PC for playing games as using with macOS, instead when 2 computers are required, a real mac laptop might be considered to replace the Hackintosh. Also personally I wanted to connect the computer to a TV, and the lack of HDMI2 support was a deal breaker. So in short the GPU was the problem. If nVidia and Apple didn't fall out, and we would have kept the web drivers, and new 3rd party cards where coming to the old Intel models, then we could have hold out longer with macOS on our PCs.
