Hi @eSaF,

Call it a very BIG PITA, I can't update too, but I'm going to make a new usb installer and try that way....

The macOS Big Sure and Apple this time fight back.. until we win... LoL ...

@MorenoAv - Yea I'm in the process of installing to the USB Drive so we'll see how that goes fingers crossed.

Nope - Failed on USB installer, about to try smaller increment.

Was anyone able to upgrade directly from Beta 2 to 3 using OC 0.6.0 and recent kexts?

I had FileVault enabled on this system.

And it failed on the first restart after typing my FileVault password.

(No disk activity, mouse and keyboard are shut down).

Trying again, this time without FileVault encryption.

Same issue here, although I don't have FileVault encryption.... I'm creating the USB installer.. see how it goes..

Ok. Luckily this was just a minor nuisance.

This build once again requires "vsmcgen=1" boot arg to install.

Fixed by using the "vsmcgen=1" boot argument.

I added it to my boot arg, rebooted, and the installer disk still doesn't go through.

So I rebooted and Doing the install once again from scratch, hopefully that make a difference.

Installed after reapplying the fix by PropoFlexWX4, the strange thing is the Disk/Volume is not named as Big Sur in the boot menu as I named it the Name is Preboot. Now that is something that I can't live with. :dev:

On the Desktop the correct name appears.

I believe this "Preboot" name is related to macOS's updating process. Real Mac users aren't supposed to see this.

One thing that surprised me is the amount of stuff the installer does in the background (behind the fancy Apple logo with progress bar)..

Copies lots of files... does several things...

Smooth install using "vsmcgen=1" boot argument.

Thanks :thumbsup_anim:

Is anyone seeing the name Preboot instead of the name one labelled the Disk?

Yes. Mine is named "Preboot" too.

Don't want to change that name to avoid messing things up.

Nah I can’t be having that so I am trying another angle if it doesn’t work out I will have to live with it until the next update but I promise you it will do my head in.

Is it normal for @gengik84 script to download a .sparseimage file?

I accidentally downloaded the wrong version which is fine but it was a sparseimage file.
I am downloading BS B3 now with the same script so i will see if it downloads as a sparseimage or not but if it does what can i do with it?

Is this the best way to get BS B3?

Updated from Beta2 to Beta3, added the vsmcgen=1 before rebooting, updated OC to latest build and Lilu, WG and virtualSMC to latest.

Saw in an earlier post that it was needed so I put it in, it may have or may have not helped but the system did go though the install process.

Have you tried if Catalina Patch works again or not?

Wasn't aware of a Catalina patch, mine auto worked in Catalina but needed the previous patch for BS beta 2, but with beta 3 that's not working anymore.
