you buy a laptop for power not to deliberate as to whether it is aesthetically pleasing or not...

LOL! Dude, it would be a whole lot safer to say "I don't buy" Gotta be careful about generalizing about that kind of thing. I'm guessing you're a new mac user? LOTS of people buy macs (and other laptops) because of esthetic concerns.

ok ill give that credit, i dont buy (and i know a lot of people that wont buy :() a computer simply for good looks. not a mac user myself but im planning on grabbing a merom mbp (or mb) after seeing how well they stack against amd's latest chips.

plus they need to put more ram in 512 – 80 + ppc apps use more ram on a intel system is very dumb.

I think we might be seeing something like this arround WWDC this year. The iMac and Mac Mini will be upgraded in January, we will most likely see the Mac Pro around WWDC, and with the Conroe coming out, I think we'll see iBook...er...Macbook revisions around then too.

:(

dont have too much time to ponder, biut i think these will be very good sellers. the keyboard is innnovative and everyone who hasnt had the glare experience with a monitor will think the glossy screen is cool. it kind of pisses me off that i paid an extra thousand for a good graphics card, 512 mb of ram and 2 more inches of screen. i still love my mbp though. :D

I saw a new MacBook at my local Apple store and although they do look nice, they're really not that much smaller than a 15" MBP. The low resolution gives it limited screen real estate as well. Both USB ports are on the left side which makes it difficult to use a Mighty Mouse - probably not a problem with normal mice since their cords are much longer.

Personally I'd rather spend $500.00 more and get the MBP. I have the 2.16ghz MBP and I really like it. I'm just waiting for the rumored 64bit Core Duo 17" MBPs later this year to come out. That will be the laptop for me.

I did like the latchless screen though. It's stays down pretty good without latches.

I wonder if these will suffer from the noise and heating that MBPs suffered from or what other "undocumented features" these will have...

Later.

The MacBook Pro's have a new "glossy screen" option.

My MacBook Pro is getting repaired, but they won't change the screen while they're fixing it (I have a problem with the keyboard creating scratches in my screen). :D

...something about it being illegal - BUT I WANT IT CHANGED!

I'm jealous of people who were patient, or ignorant enough to wait till now....

ARRGHHH!

Here's a tip for Apple (make sure you write this one down!): I (the consumer with deep pockets) like suprises if they concern new products, but I absolutely hate being suprised a month after spending a lot of money on a laptop that I thought was perfect just for you to come later and have a better computer with something I've always wanted (a glossy screen). You say "suprise" at which I tear out my hair in anger (and entirely forget about the excellent presentation I could only have made with a Mac using Keynote).

No! Here's how it should go: You announce a new product as a suprise - the MacBook. But, for a product that already exists (MacBook Pro) you tell the consumer your future upgrades and when they can be expected. For a suprise like a glossy screen you should at least offer an upgrade at a decent price! Let alone, when I'm getting the screen repaired anyway - you should at least secretly allow my to trade one screen for another. I even offered to pay whatever they asked, but was scolded for even offering to do so.

Apple. You have a great future, but you're starting to ruin it because your not thinking about your "switchers" who are used to a release schedule that doesn't feature incessant little upgrades.

I'd sell my MacBook Pro on Ebay and buy a new one, but I don't have enough time for that - and it seems like too much for a glossy screen. So I'm left with one lesson learned - don't buy a new product from Apple, or maybe never buy a product from Apple again. I can't trust a company that can't even trust me with a roadmap for it's future product "enhancements".

It looks like the "benefits" of the macbook is the easily upgraded, snap in harddrive. At least thats what some are excited about.

I think there has to be some rational explanation for black seemingly to cost more. Not sure what it is, but I doubt apple is thinkinglike a 12 year old boy in the sense that "BLACK IS FASTER SO IT MUST BE MORE EXPENSIVE".

If thats the case and Its truly more expensive for the color.. when thats ridiculous.

Id be interested to see some benchmarks for the macbook re: drystone and whetstone. Lets face it, it's an acedemic/business notebook, not a gaming platform.

Why is black more expensive? Because they know that it'll sell to stupid people, that's why.

Also, here are some CineBench scores that were posted at MacNN (btw, the earlier scores posted for the Mac mini - were they from the version of CineBench that undercalculated the Hardware GL scores for Macs or the latest version that gives the correct score?):

I'm very disappointed in the glossy LCD, it's a complete deal-breaker for me. I was considering getting one of these at the end of the summer, but I am not interested in the least in a glossy LCD. I wish they would do it like the MacBook Pro, letting you choose anti-glare or glossy.

I couldn't agree more. I was ready to fork over some cash but no way now. The glossy sceen reflects light and looks cheap as hell.

Bought!

White model, 2GHz with 1gb RAM. Shame about the GMA graphics, awesome specs otherwise.

I have owned 2 laptops prior, an iBook G4 and a Stock, Black PC laptop. 1 word: Dust.

The white iBook showed hardly ANY signs of aging, just got a bit gruby after 18months. The black one has dust everywhere after 10mins. Black is NOT the color for cleanlyness. :graduated:

I will let people know what it performs like in the real-world when it arrives.

You are so lucky. I sold my old iBook G3 for $450 and I'm gonna save for one of these beauties. I can hopefully sell my iMac for parts and get one. Let us know how it runs! :graduated:

Guest goodtime
I don't know, am I the only one think that the black ones really looks like a cheap PC?!

especially with the plastic material, there is no difference at all

Is this PC or mac?

Is it me, or is the giant trackpad off center?

The keyboard looks stupid.

It looks like a Texas Instruments calculator keyboard.

This computer is a Dell, too. If you look closely at the words under the screen you can see that it clearly says "Dell" instead of Macbook.

LOL! :weight_lift:

Its photoshopped. If it doesn't say MacBook, you can't even tell the difference.

Thats really a black MacBook.
