Some photos, the keyboard is completely different. See the glossy display...

so you have one of these? How is the new Keyboard, and the glossy display, it is annoying? I dont understand why people would want glossy LCDs...

hmmm 400 MHz core. That's more than my 260 MHz Radeon 9700 in this Dell. Maybe it's underclocked though... But the RAM memory is much slower than real video memory, even 9700's, right?

"Up to 224 MB maximum video memory"

Does this mean you can hack it some way to get it to use more than 64MB memory?

How come the american price is starts at $1099 which is equal to £584.23

yet if you buy it in the uk there charging £749

Why is there an extra £164 for buying in the uk?

This kinda sucks to be honest, i really want a macbook, and i can afford one. But why should i pay extra because i dont live in the US?

Because everything costs more in the UK? People make more money in the UK. Don't just look at exchange rates.

Hi everybody!

This is my first post. I think I can bring some light here :P

The difference in price is because US prices on apple's site are without taxes, and I'm almost sure that prices in UK's site include VAT. At least that's the way it is in Spain where I'm from.

Saludossss

PS: Excuse my poor english.

The exchange rate is misleading because the dollar is down against the pound and the british site includes 17.5% VAT.

I like the glossy displays (i think the purpose is that they are high contrast or something...?) but i really don't like the black macbooks - it looks like someone has painted it in car underseal!

aaargh.... i really thought that apple would include a better graphics solution in the mb.. granted you dont get a mac to do gaming but a gma is a sorry excuse for a video card. they could have atleast offered a lower end non-intel solution like an x1300 or an x1400 (with hypermemory or regular as options). it looks like a nice laptop and all but not worth the premium you have to pay since its got a pathetic gma.. even the mac mini (ppc) had a better graphics card.

Also remember that the UK price includes VAT, while the US price does not include taxes, which are different in each state.

For example, for me in Mississippi, a base model MacBook (the one listed for $1099) comes out to $1175.93 after tax is added. According to XE.com, that comes to 622.70 GBP. Sales tax in Mississippi is only 7% though, compared to your 17.5% VAT. Blame your government for the price difference, not Apple.

I'm very disappointed in the glossy LCD, it's a complete deal-breaker for me. I was considering getting one of these at the end of the summer, but I am not interested in the least in a glossy LCD. I wish they would do it like the MacBook Pro, letting you choose anti-glare or glossy.

And I agree, the black one doesn't look like a Mac product. But people want it to match their iPods :P I think it's RIDICULOUS that there's a $150 premium for the black color, though.

even the mac mini (ppc) had a better graphics card.

For the last time (hopefully), the video card in the Mac mini was NOT better than the GMA 950. It was not capable of supporting Core Image and Core Video, but the GMA 950 does (hell, even the GMA 900 does). Every game that was playable on the former video card is playable on the new one.

I like the black one. I used to own a G3 PowerBook, and I'm glad to see a return to black for an Apple, although I do wish they had given the case a little more style to differentiate it from 100 other similar laptops on the market. The old G3 PowerBooks curves were distinctive, and even the original iBooks had some cool lines. This is just blah.

I don't know, am I the only one think that the black ones really looks like a cheap PC?!

especially with the plastic material, there is no difference at all

Is this PC or mac?

while i agree (plastic=cheap pc)... who cares lol? you buy a laptop for power not to deliberate as to whether it is aesthetically pleasing or not...

+ i doubt whether you can mistake the glowing apple on the top of the chassis for a pc :P

just because the card was not capable of supporting qe/ci does not mean that it is worse than the gma. are you going to try and tell me that a GeForce 7300 is better than a 6800 because it supports SM 4.0? the 9200 was reported to be 20% faster in opengl tests than the gma despite having a much slower cpu (the cpu was a bottleneck and not the gpu!!!)

if you'd like proof look at this:

if you can see, in terms of hardware rendering w/ opengl, the ppc mini is 20% faster! im sure the core duo t2300 is a faster chip (duh... its 4 years newer) but the gma is a bottleneck. so, as ive stated, qe/ci does not mean it is a better card.

Apple have really done it this time. They've significantly downgraded the GPU in the process versus both the old iBook and PowerBook 12". They've also lost at least 4 sales amongst people I know as a result, and I'm sure those aren't the only examples.

Appls no longer have a suitable midrange notebook product. How much would it have cost just to have something like say an X1300 as an option?! What a waste of a 2GHz Core Duo CPU...

i couldnt say it better.. i know someone who blew 2200 on a dell inspiron 6400 which had a t2500 but he took 533mhz memory (core duo has a 667mhz fsb causing a delay in cycle time) and he grabbed a gma 950 as opposed to an x1400.. what a waste!
