Blacks have higher processor and also DVDRW (white has combo). Also blacks look slight larger.

Magnetic Attraction

Here’s to having one less thing to worry about. Opening and closing your MacBook is a snap, thanks to a magnetic latch that catches without a catch. That means no moving parts to snag, jam, or break.

Work Longer Unplugged

MacBook offers up to 6 hours of battery life. (2.5 hours of DVD playback, 3.5 hours with wireless turned on.)

Key figure

MacBook features a unique new keyboard design that sits flush against the bed for a sleeker, lower profile. Plus, you’ll find a firmer touch when typing. That ought to make your fingers happy.

Thin heir

Perhaps the most profound design element of MacBook is what it lacks: bulk. At 1.08 inches thin — more than a quarter of an inch thinner than the iBook G4 — MacBook cuts a slim profile on any desk (or in any backpack). And since MacBook is sure to become your constant companion, a durable polycarbonate shell keeps it ready for the rough and tumble of everyday life. Now that’s grace under pressure

As I read it, the low-end model has the combo.

There is a white model that is the same as the black model minus 20gb of drive space for 200 less.

The comparison chart clearly shows both the white and the black have 2.0 ghz CoreDuos and superdrives, and at the bottom, shows the dimensions, which are exactly the same.

MMK, it is true that there is a difference between the $1099 and the $1299 white units in terms of specs. However, from looking at the specs between the $1299 and the $1499 units, once we factor in the $50 for the extra 20gb of hd space...the only difference is color. I think that really stinks!!! What will be next, paying more for a black ipod? Bah to you apple for being extra greedy.

Bearcat: 'ya beat me to part of my thought... :)

Seems like a real steal, especially with Dual-Core Mac Minis not much cheaper than these guys.

I agree that the $150 premium for black seems pretty odd especially as it's likely to get scratched to hell. I'll take my Apple products in white and silver thank you very much :)

My one big hope is that they've fixed some of the heat issues with the MBP (poor thermal paste application)... I'd expect a little bit of a benefit in the difference between aluminum and plastic.

I bet the screen looks great. They also updated the screen and processor speed on the MBP!

As a replacement for the iBook line they are fine, but I was waiting for a 12' Powerbook replacement and for that purpose the new MacBook is really disapointing. The integrated Intel graphics are not what I need in a small laptop. I have a mini and the gma950 just falls short for what I need.

I have a feeling that there isn't going to be a replacement for the 12" PowerBook. Even before the transition, there was little difference between the specs (and price) of a 12" PowerBook and a high end iBook. I think Apple has finally realized that they needed greater separation between the two lines.
