swtguyalen
Hi guys, Well first of all everything worked on my system when i had my 8800 GTX but when I read that the new 8800GTS 512MB card was now supported I went and got it. I DLed all the files necessary, both the OPEN GL FRAMEWORK and the GFORCE KTEXT and was ready to use my new card, but when i try to boot up my mac i get the restart screen and it will not load up to the desktop for me to install my new ktexts. can someone please help me??? goko
Few questions: 1. Which card works better 8800 GT or 8800 GTS assuming both are G92. 1a. There are numerous reports 8800 GT is slow under Leopard, what about 8800GTS(G92) - is it underpowered by not entirely finished OpenGL Framework? 1b. Which card supports dual monitors? 2. Is Final Cut working with above cards; which one is better? Someone in this thread said it crushes. 3. Anyone have any idea when will be the official release of 10.5.2? Stellair
Ok that sounds cool. I'm almost ready with choosing my components for my next Hackintosh :-) I'm gonna wait a bit more to see the benchmarks between de 8800GT 512mb and 8800GTS 512mb but what about the 8800GT 258mb, do they work too? I'm just guessing on pre-release drivers because I'm sure they wouldn't let this bad of performance into the new Mac Pro's.

CaiusJulius
Just a quickie: I've installed the new kexts etc., and so far, so good. My question is: once apple rolls out the real update, will simply installing it update my custom-installed kexts to the real one?

Wipeout
Finally got Leopard working. This works on my 10.5.1 AMD installation. Full QE and CI with my eVGA 8600 GT 256 MB. I'll post some screenys when I figure out how to take screenshots in OS X (dumbass here).

Porkserver
I got this running 1st go and everything seems to be running great with my eVGA 8600GT 256MB (DevID 0x0402). But alas world of warcraft crashes right at launch now...im guessing trying to engage the open gl engines...anyone else had issues with games? I realize this is a pre-release of the kexts but diagnosing this stuff early will help us all in the long run. any input is good thnksI had this working stellar with an X1650 pro + Natit before my card upgrade could NVinjext cause WoW to throw up? or is this likely my 1st suspicion of the gl framework not knowing what to do? OK heres my update:After crying for roughly a day I beat my head against the wall trying different ideas from my own Noodle and from people on insanely mac and Netkas.org also my thanks go out to the users of irc.osx86.hu!! heres what I figured out:I am running an AMD system with an ATI RS480/M2 Board from MSI and an 8600GT from evga I followed the advice from another thread to relocate the contents of /Versions/A/ of the OpenGL.framework folder to the root of the folder. this gave me weird results so I reverted...using Kalyways Kexts ToH's kexts and a few others I was about to give up (this is when I actuallty put on my thinking cap) my install was the 10.5.1 rc2 ToH DVD so I did a clean install to rule out issues on another Volume. after this I got the 10.5.2 Kext/framework installer 0.1 from here on the threads. SINCE I have an AMD system I took a shot in the Dark and ran Marvins AMD utility on my fresh installed drive and it found about 9 new CPU id's and I patched them.and of course I removed my extensions.mkextrepaired permissions and rebootedVOILA!!!! I have a system running beytter than before and all my OpenGL bugs are gone and im back to owning faces in WOW!!!I will post results of benchmarks tomorrow I must sleep now but needless to say I think I found the root of the issue on this with AMD systems. swtguyalen
UPDATE ON MY PROGRESS!!! I am trying to get my evga 8800 GTS 512MB card to work. My system was working perfectly when i had my 8800 GTX but the problem is that when i switched, the computer goes tot he apple menu then i get the reboot screen of death. Well i have been trying everything to get this to work. This is what happens when i press f8 and start on -v mode http://www.usualsuspectsla.com/allen/mac.jpg it stops there and never does anything. I have tried changing the resolution using "graphics mode"="1024x768x32" -v thinking that it was at a high resalution but it stops at the same spot. does anyone have any clue?? starfox5194
ok a few pages back(like page 4 or something) there was a modified natit kext. If i download that and put it in System/library/extensions, I will have full QE/CI on my XFX Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS 512 MB? EDIT: ohhhh i see i just need those 10.5.2 kext's in there also
adrian mak
@adrian mak Kalyway DVD is older than the 8800GT method so don't choose the 'nvinject' at install Then how do I install dirvers for 8800GT (g92 core) ?
build
Then how do I install dirvers for 8800GT (g92 core) ? You need the new 10.5.2 beta kexts and opengl framework. This will install the 10.5.2 beta kexts and opengl which support mine and your 8800GT's. once installed you will need to edit the Device id to 0x061110de and add VRAM.totalsize and set to 00000020. this will then display the 512mb correctly. If you are not sure, I have attached my NVinject already modified and working for the 512MB 8800GT. Just replace the NVinject installed by the installer to /Volumes/"Your drive name"/System/Library/Extensions/ with the one I've uploaded. NVinject.kext.zip Make sure you change permissions after you replace it or it won't load on a reboot. In terminal type: chmod -R 755 /Volumes/"Your drive name"/System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext chown -R root:wheel /Volumes/"Your drive name"/System/Library/Extensions/NVinject.kext
adrian mak
@build I read some replies from this thread said that extract opengl framework on a HFS+ partition to retain softlinks. But my installed leopard can't bootup properly, how do I extract the framework on a HFS+ partition ?
