ozzie123
switching form INTEL TO AMD (just need drivers) is a lot easer then going from PPC to intel / X86 Don't want to be sarcastic but this is just lame. Apple goes with intel simply because Intel have its own platform. They make intel processors and intel chip coming with it. I don't see that coming from AMD because from my observation, what they care is the processor only, not the platform Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/6/#findComment-138425 Share on other sites
niteman1969
Ok some nice wishlists there so I'll throw mine in. The Red button to close windows and shut down the running app - fed up of closing a window then having to go and close the app seperatley in the dock. Quicktime to have fullscreen support out of the box with no hacks and integrated wmv,divx,mpeg2,ac3 plugins at no extra charge. Windows media player does it on the PC - why not quicktime? ichat to be more like trillium , allow logging in to several messengers simultaneously including skype compatibility. idvd to encode avi's to dvd faster (transcoding) and allow you to put as many avi's on a dvd as you want even if it does reduce the quality. an integrated cd/dvd burning suite similar to nero / toast . an integrated office suite. cant think of anything else....... Urbz
honestly, i don't want much. Tiger is my current choice of OS among them all (including vista beta 2, which i currently have installed) but only because OS 9 is pretty much dead. Here goes: - Virtualization or some kind on Windows API-Layer crossover thing, where either i can run windows apps in mac or have windows running in a window in mac/fullscreen virtualization, with Virtual PC like options including drag n drop support... Basically a good solution to run windows without rebooting. - An update to the aqua interface. A Big one. I think the whole experience should be a lot more customizable, more like the OS 9 themes and options of that sort. I like the different color schemes and menu-sounds that OS 9 posseses and want them officially back. Also, the dock and finder need an overhaul. The dock just doesn't work, I'm sorry. It really gets in the way and auto hide sucks because it doesn't stay up for a few seconds after my mouse has turned it's attention away form the dock. I propose a switch back to the OS 9 finder with some updates. I liked the control bar thing from classic as well. Apple needs to look at what made so many pros happy with their classic OS and bring all of it back. Thats all. -Urby Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/6/#findComment-138528 Share on other sites
cyrana
I'll update my list from page one since it's been a while. Although I doubt they will have ntfs write support. I don't see them supporting the captive driver os paying a license fee to Paragon for their NTFS for linux package (which would have to be ported as well). Anyway, I would love: Improved (or at leat a faster implementation) OpenGL Support HFS+ improved yet again, making it closer to BeFS (that FS rocked) I guess maybe just ZFS would be better than 2. Better handling of kernel threads The finder needs to be sped up, among other problems. On a lot of mac boards, please just say "FTFF"...use some slang to figure out that acronym. Improve on Apple Remote Desktop (could be faster I think, RDP is better on windows) More 64-bit Support (background/command-line stuff only can be 64-bit now I believe). I'm fairly sure this is a given though. Keep on speeding the interface up. This seems to happen w/every release, at least if you have a proper video card. Yet more x86 work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/6/#findComment-138543 Share on other sites

Only the G5s support 64bit at the moment, although Tiger does support 64bit handling. The memrom processors should support 64bit. BRP
Indeed, only G5's right now, but when Core 2 is released, we'll seem more 64-bit and mmmm. squirrel
Leopard wish list: 1) Automatically tunnel afp mount requests through ssh, so that afp passwords are not transmitted with clear text. I have been setting up ssh tunnels manually in Darwin, but it is a bit of a nuisance. It is a security issue, and it should be a no-brainer. 2) Handle the 'hang' when an afp-mounted volume drops better. There is no reason for the system to lock-up for a few seconds before alerting you to the drop. 3) Offer as a standard install, or optional install, the ability to put User directories and possibly the Applications folder on a separate partition from the System partition. It is possibile to set this up manually, but it requires a non-trivial amount of unix know-how. This provents a user from accidently damaging his/her system by filling the system drive with user files, and makes for very elegant switching between multiple system partitions if a user wants to have a "safe" back-up system, or to try out a new OS version without compromising the current installation. All the system installations could use the same User folders in this manner. 4) I would like DiskUtility to offer the option to change partition sizes without destroying data on the partitions. 5) For Safari, I'd like the option to replace google as my search engine of choice. 6) For iTunes: a) support for CD Text a button to update CD info.cidb without having to eject the volume who's info you've just editted. NatMusak
1. It'd be nice if Leopard was the first resolution-independent OS. 2. Also, and perhaps someone already said this, but the ability to close windows from the dock because right now I think only finder windows can be closed from there. 3. Standardizing the switching between windows keyboard shortcut to somthing like command+' Also, as a side note, I just wanted to tell a shortcut I recently learned that some may not know about: If you have multiple windows of the same app open, you can hold alt and double click at the top of the window or single click the minimize button and it will minimize all the windows of that app simultaneously; can also be done using command+alt+m Aswell, you can make a window minimize in slow motion by holding shift and either double clicking the top of the window or clicking the minimize button. blkblt
My one and only wish: That it runs on my current system Will it be hackable? Possibly, but not likely. That's what everyone was saying about 10.4 as well. Agreed that BIOS made it easier, but where there's a will, there's a way, and my money is on it being hacked. /blkblt Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/6/#findComment-139232 Share on other sites

ras
I'd like a real OS that will work in almost any pc, careless brand, model, like windows works in almost any pc. So a OS is only real if it works in almost any PC? Oh, and on that deleting files only by dragging them to the trash, Shift-Backspace does that. And some of the things people are suggesting are already in there. GoM
For everyone who doesn't like the dock, here are the thoughts of a former Apple employee: http://www.asktog.com/columns/044top10docksucks.html I'm thankful that he is not an employee anymore. another_earthling
Ok since I am a developer, I want this feature badly. I wanna switch to the Mac OS and start developing in java,c++ and c# on it. But the majority of the people running my apps will be windows users, and its bound to happen since windows has a market share of 96%. So I want to create windows applications using a mac. Far fetched? well so was the idea of running windows on a mac, but apple did it right! So I guess it will be a great feature to lure developers like me. To be able to create and test windows applications on a mac. Apple if you are reading this, then its just a feature u gotta add to xcode. I hope u do it in leopard Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/6/#findComment-166920 Share on other sites
Jimmni
More than anything else I'd like Apple to get off their high-Airport horse and include support for WEP key indexes other than key 1. My office uses keys 1 - 4, and with OS X if you're somewhere that requires keys 2 - 4 you're {censored} out of luck. Workplace Shell
you cant delete file, you can drag the to the trash or right-click and move to trash.... You use the Apple-command (⌘) key (I'm not 100% sure but the Windows key on a non-Apple keyboard should be the one which maps to this) in conjunction with the delete key to send files to the trash via the keyboard. Here is a list of other keyboard shortcuts: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75459 http://homepage.mac.com/frakes/MOSXPT/content/keyboard.html If you click a menu item from the menu bar (like File for example) and try various key combinations (shift, option, control, command), you'll see certain menu items change. Additionally, you can personalize keyboard shortcuts to whatever combination you prefer system wide or per application (including the Finder) from System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts Using Help from the Finder and typing in "keyboard shortcuts" will also bring up a whole list of items on this topic. deltatux
What I want on Leopard? The ability to change your computer's name. I hate having it just [my real name]'s computer. rollcage
1. Ability to choose a unified system theme (Aqua, Brushed metal). Being able to choose the color of the Aqua theme would be cool. 2. Be able to delete files by pressing the delete key (no, not Apple-backspace, delete. Let the key do what it's name says, DELETE! 3. A better looking UI. Lets add more 3D texture to the dock and Finder. Make people running Vista drool when they see what we have. 4. Fullscreen on the free version of Quicktime. Every other video app that I know of does this, why not Quicktime? 5. TV tuner support in Front Row, with built in ipod encoding support. 6. A revamped iTunes that rips DVDs for use on you ipod. (the movie industry would have a fit, but they'll get over it ) 7. In Spaces, when I click an icon in the dock for, let's say Safari, I don't want it to take me to the Space that it is open in, I want it to open a new browser window. What if I'm chatting with someone in one space and looking at a web page with them; at the same time in another space I'm building a web page and want to preview it? 8. I'd rather Apple didn't let Windows get too integrated into the system, like being able to run Windows apps natively. Two reasons: First off, I don't want all the security that I have in Windows to affect my OSX experience. OSX is the safe haven I turn to and I don't want that taken away. Second, then where is that incentive for developers to release OSX products. I would just rather Apple didn't turn OSX into Windows. 9. I'd like to be able to change my search engine in Safari without having to hack OSX. A dropdown menu would be peachy. 10. The ablity to sign in iChat as offline. I want to be able to see who is online before I expose myself to that person that I just don't feel like talking to at the moment. This also means that when I put my status to offline, that my buddy list doesn't dissappear.
