rollcage
I expect Apple will add read/write support for NTFS drives. If they expect people in a corporate environment to be dual-booting, they can't honestly think that they'll format their WIndows drive as FAT32 to be able to share files.... Plus if Apple adds support for Vista, I don't believe that FAT32 is even an option. I think you HAVE to use NTFS. And eventually M$ is going to add in WinFS (oh goody...). John the Geek
One thing I like about Windows is the ability to minimize all windows by using the shortcut in the Quick Launch Toolbar (down by the start button). While I know that in OS X you can send all of the windows to the side, sometimes I just want to minimize them all. This would be a great feature. Expose was around long before 10.4.3... I think it was intruduced in 10.3.x somewhere. Anyway, to minimize ALL windows at once hold Option and click Minimize (yellow dot in OS X)... that feature has been there since OS 9. My BIGGEST gripe about OS X has to be the undocumented features. Seriously... PUBLISH THEM!!!!! It's sad than most Mac users don't know how to use their machine to it's potential because all the cool tricks are a @#$% secret. It would be nice to see Mac OS fully support non apple DVD burners for use in iMovie - it's a pain having to buy a mac with a Superdrive when i have a perfectly servicable firewire burner. You'll be glad to hear iLife 06 added this. =) Thumbnail support for pictures and videos in the finder. Thumbnail support is already there for images (although hidden, press Apple + J to get at it.) and movies would be nice, but a lot of pro movie files fade in from black at start, so all the previews would be black. Quicktime that can go into full screen... for free! Agreed!!! I'm a paid Pro user, but still... should be free. change between osx and windows (through bootcamp) like the fast user switching :E "Wink wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean?" =) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/5294-what-do-you-want-to-see-in-105-leopard/page/5/#findComment-132912 Share on other sites

CyBrian
[snip]Ability to run *NIX apps natively w/o X11. [snip] x11 is the way *nix actually makes windows. if you wanna run a *nix app without x11, just use a terminal-based one. the reason they require x11 is because apple would need to actually build x11 into its own similar thing (windowserver iirc) and thus that would require a lot more space for people not using it and possibly slow down osx alltogether. Ptracker
What I would like too see in OSX 10.5 I would like to have an option to control the sound volume for each application running within the os that is not dependent to the system sound volume. I have many application running at once and would like an option to control the volume for each application independently. I work in a shared enviroment and would like to control the sound volume for each application that would not disturbed my fellow work mates with an application that decided to have to notify me with an error. John the Geek
10.5 should be able to be installed on generic Pc's. And how, may I ask, did you come to that reasoning? It's 100% assured that it will NOT run on "generic PCs" out of the box. I'd bet you large sums of money on it too. Will it be hackable? Possibly, but not likely. Most of the hacks for 10.4 came from Apple supplied parts from BIOS builds of early 10.4. There is NO BIOS version of 10.5, so the hacking community will be starting over completely from scratch... and with no help from Apple this time around. That's a situation I would not put any money on... It won't be easy at all. John the Geek
If its only $30, then buy it. I did... but it's still such a small expense there's no reason not to include it as part of the default user's toybox. I understand why the MPEG-2 component (which I also bought) comes separate, since Apple has to pay for it per seat and not all users would use it, but Pro is just enabling dormant features already there. Bart86
A task bar, I cant stand how silly the windows are managed on osx. For example, if a program uses several windows at once, and they are overlapped you have to right click over the program´s icon on the dock and and then select the window you want bring to front (and too often you can´t even see which window you are going to focus, as they are named identical). Also, an adress bar in finder´s windows would be nice. And a faster finder gui (specially resizing windows) On the other hand, I still wondering how in the hell apple didnt introduce a way to remove the windows from the desktop until 10.4.3....before 10.4.3, you had to minimize each window one by one lol OsX is nice...but, could be nicer. I used to have this complaint too, but with Expose setup using screen corner activations I think its an improvement to a "task bar" setup like windows has. It must be setup on a fast system so that the feature offers absolutley no delay. I have my upper left screen corner setup to display App windows for the foreground app and the upper right for All windows. Bart Ability to run Windows programs natively.Ability to run *NIX apps natively w/o X11. Faster, faster, faster. User options to remove code from the OS X your Mac doesnt need. Quartz 2D Extreme, enabled. Which UNIX? there's only about 5 mainstream versions....and they ALL use X11 for anything other than Shell apps/scripts. Kinda like wishing for an airplane that can fly without taking off.. Takuro
Ok here it goes. My wish list: - A more fully featured Quicktime basic. Since when is full-screen video a premium feature? Exporting should be Pro though. - An improved Dashboard. The ability to move widgets onto the Desktop itself and to keep them in place even after reboot/logoff. The ability to go to Apple's widget site, see them implemented and working fully on a preview page before you use them (It's better than just seeing a preview screenshots. And this can be done. They're mostly made of html), then simply drag them from Safari to your desktop. - An updated speech command recognition system that is more advanced, more accurate, and allows for the dictation of entire paragraphs without 3rd party software. - A new finder with tabbed windows, advanced spotlight features, and the ability to show a tree-diagram giving an overview of a volume's entire contnents (much like some websites have today.) - The Sherlock application should be dropped. Any features that were unique to it should be implemented in similiar applications. - A new version of iChat that allows users to enter chatrooms organized by topic (sort of like in IRC), alpha-transparency png support for high-quality user icons, and most of the features that are in iChax - The ability to run Windows XP+ programs natively, either from within a larger program or running side-by-side with native OS X applications - Multiple desktop support, similiar to what DesktopManager currently does - New expose features, including the ability to close or minimize a window at a glance, rather than just select it It's a big list, but I have a big imagination. When I tried to think really hard, I realized most of the ideas I had are already covered by Tiger in one way or another. sam_the_killer
First of all Native Support to All GeForce based cards (This might be possible but not for cards earlier than 7900) Second Should provide apps like iLife, iWorks with the Leopard DVD.. bundled.. Should provide support for deploying applications developed in other Operating Systems, with no or minor modification (Here i m talking about support of Windows Library on Mac as that of Visual Studio).. To provide options of changing the dock style as per the need coz it becomes too messy with more applications at the dock.. making dock smaller as apps get increased will not help coz that 2 is tending to become too difficult to handle.. Provide Good themes other than Aqua & Graphite... Provide Good Minimizing & Maximizing effects other than Genie & Scale... Provide support to NTFS and hopefully a kind of update to future releases of FileSystem from Microsoft (viz. WinFS) A good offline update system (coz who r not on real mac could be benefited) Easy deployment of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard on PC's so that we can easily make it to work on ours.. This can be complemented if EFI is not to be taken into consideration... A transparent Effect of Applications to Compete with Aero Glass From Microsoft, coz Microsoft is Copying Apple So why should Apple stay behind in race with Microsoft.. Also a native 64- bit support to make things lot more faster.. Dunno about this coz the Macs that r being sold r without 64-bit support.. Hope this version of Mac OS X contains atleast 90% of features expected.. to make this community HAPPY.. And a last hope this time not For Mac but from Apple.. skippyretard
I think many of you will be disappointed. Their is no reason to think Apple will do anything to improve performance on beige PC's when all they've done so far is work against us. If they planed to release a generic version they would let us play so we could work out the bugs. Themes would be great! A lot of people are asking for GUI features like Windows, so user designable themes could be the answer. A luna style theme would provide a more useable interface for recent switchers without changing the default Aqua that most real Mac users love(brushed metal optional=). I think(hope) that a 64 bit version is already present, Apple just has no reason to make it public till the new PowerMac, MacTower, MacTower Pro or whatever is released. Xandros 4 includes very useable NTFS support as of 21 June, so it is likely 10.5 will include it. It's proven it can work and Apple geeks are just as smart as Linux geeks. TV support in FrontRow would be great and Apple knows HD is the only way to go. I would also like to see better integration of the Apple Remote and iSight. Plugin API would let users help create even more wonderful stuff to add to FrontRow, like MythTV support. PLEASE give me my back button on my Logitech mouse! Quartz 2D enabled and the idea about the game controller API. The Network bug, The Network bug, The Network bug. OK, I'm done for now.
