  1. Updated Post: I've created an Applescript which can be used to point Remote Buddy to launch AppleTV on our Intel Macs. As we all know, Remote Buddy is widely regarded as that one piece of software that enables you to get rid of your Macs mouse and keyboard and turn it into a real HTPC! However, now that we can run the AppleTV on our Intel Macs, the two pieces of software conflict, both wanting to control the IR sensor that the remote uses. Hence, when you launch the AppleTV when Remote Buddy is running, you can't do anything and have to SSH into the machine to get rid of one or both! This Applescript can be put right into Remote Buddy's menu and launching it will launch AppleTV after 30 seconds, or give you the opportunity to press the menu button on your remote and get to the AppleTV GUI. Requirements: Intel Mac that uses the Apple Remote, the "Exit" plugin for AppleTV, AppleTV set as a replacement to the default Front Row. Instructions: 1- Download the file below and unzip it! 2- Click on the Remote Buddy icon in the menu bar when it is running and click Preferences. 3- Click the Menu button/tab. 4- Select your User's Profile in the drop-down menu (it it isn't there, create one). 5- Drag the Applescript you unzipped into the menu wherever you want, and delete the existing Front Row items in the menu (they no longer work!). 6- Quit the preferences, restart Remote Buddy, and launch the script from the menu wherever you had inserted it! **There will be up to four options to launch it, simply go with the first** NOTE: Make sure that the AppleTV GUI has replaced Front Row as in the tutorial here. You also need to have the "Quit" plugin installed, so you can exit AppleTV. NOTE 2: The best way to proceed with this is to press the Menu button on the Apple Remote when the dialog prompts you to do so. I haven't always had luck with the other option... even then, sometimes it doesn't quit properly and the script will be stuck. If the volume is on, you can go up and down with the remote and you will hear the AppleTV's menu sounds. Press menu a couple of times, then press down 7 or 8 times, and press play twice. This is because on some occasions, two instances of "Front Row" are launched. Other Info: So that you know what's going on (in short), this script quits Remote Buddy, and launches (or detects the presence of) Front Row.app, the replacement that is really the AppleTV. While this is running, it monitors the system every 5 seconds to see if it is still running. If it isn't, the script re-launches Remote Buddy and quits itself. Otherwise, it re-checks in 5 seconds. I have, by the way, monitored my processor's usage, and no, the 5-second-monitoring doesn't eat up any precious processor cycles. It barely has any impact. Enjoy, and post any feedback here! -Urby Original Post: AppleTV.zip

    Soon the end of Windows?

    two words: WEB BROWSER.
  4. LOL. Yes. Parasites who convert ourselves and the effort we put into this project into dollar signs for Apple. They must really hate us. Come on! So many people on this board have bought Macs that this site is a money making machine. Our little operation has also been like a research project for Apple. If nothing else we prove that once curious people get a taste of OS X, they want it. (in many cases bad enough to buy a Mac) Isn't that up to the law to decide? I mean, if any of this were clear, an outcome would already be reached, no? (I don't believe in the system, but isn't that the argument? ok.

    Rogers/Fido = EPIC FAILURE

yeah I'm in Montreal and I'm very happy with my plan. I signed a three year with fido... Knowing that when the next iPhone comes out I can probably qualify for HUP, it doesn't bother me all that much. So anyways, I have $30 data at 6gigs, $20 'regional' plan (although I think it's supposed to be Ontario only...) for 150 minutes and unlimited e/w, and the $11 value pack for 125 SMS, CID, VM, and whocalled. So I beat the $60 value plan almost everywhere except I don't have VVM... Which really doesn't bother me since I'm getting so much more!

    Rogers/Fido = EPIC FAILURE

WRONG. There are different tiers which current clients fall in which determine how much you pay. Just like any other phone. Generally, you only need to be HUP eligible to qualify for the 199/299 pricing. Rogers/fido's servers were down until 1:30, and Apple's 3ish (EST). I thought it added to the excitement. After running all around the city of Montreal, I got my hands on a 16GB and look at it fondly because of it's story lol... OMG WUT AH BEG DIZAZTREE!! Wrong. It is for the full three years. The promotion is that you must get it before August 31st. *sigh* -Urbz

    3G iPhone Confirmed For WWDC

I don't understand why people like cdma...
  12. This isn't about quality! Yes, everyone knows HD is pointless on such a small screen! Still, if one were to download a HD 1080p movie from iTunes but had to take it with them, wether that be to watch it an another screen or on the device (think travel), you need a hardware codec to do it.

    Confirmed: Atom-based iPhone!

No. It's too big, too expensive, and too little too late.
  14. Now why would you do that? I think it's fairly safe to assume that there will be iPhone 2.0 soon enough. If you want a cheap iPhone, wait for the next version, then get a 4/8/16 Gig refurb of iPhone 1. Just saying...
  15. My guess would be the plans would amount to about $10 more than those in the States... Although my hope is that they will be equal!

    "I invented the iPod dock"

You're all wrong: I invented the iPod Dock, the iMac, AND Air. My lawyer's drawing up the papers as you read this.
  17. yeah, um... a little late. But anyways, the $60 US iPhone rate plan is very enticing to me. If that exact package would come to Rogers, I'll be getting an iPhone without unlocking it, especially because the plan is pretty much better than what i have now and I pay about $50 without any sort of data plan with my razr. So I think the rate plans will be the deciding factor for most Canadians, and I do hope that they decide not to steal from us like every other plan out there currently does. Funny that I found out about this first on the evening news!

    From Atom to Apple

Then again if Apple is buying from Intel, they don't exactly have to worry about prices now do they?
  20. He should get his birthday suit ready. Jump from .something% to 5%? LOL.
  21. he didn't say that. Anyways, I agree with the TO simply because it's more convenient to virtualize than dual boot, particularly when you want to test an OS (Linux comes to mind...). I don't do either, though, because apps like Wine/Darwine and Crossover do everything I need when things aren't available on my platform (and by that I mean Grand Theft Auto...). So unless there is a vested interest in dual-boot (like buying an iMac for the hardware but running Windows on it in a business environment), it seems sorta obsolete to me!
  22. For iDefrag, check the torrent sites. As for the heat issue, that's very odd. Check Activity Monitor after a reboot and see what's going on, processor-wise. It's definitely doing something unnecessary...

    MacBook Air

Think Mark, you speak the truth, buddy! anyways... IMHO, all those complaining about the MBA being too expensive are just mad that they can't afford one. Or that they feel like they're wasting their money. If that thought ever crosses your mind, this baby isn't made for you. Shut up and move on.
