Where is Maxxuss?

Swad

Maxxuss has disappeared. The sites he once updated with patches and materials are either outdated or offline. He has not visited our forum since March 18th. Letters are left unresponsive. It seems the man who was rapidly building his name as one of our time's most notorious hackers is simply gone.

So what happened? There have been several times in the past when he has been dormant or otherwise quiet – in these cases, we haven’t reported on it since it is normal for there to be a lull in the action. Sensationalism is something we try to keep to a minimum.

But this is more than an extended vacation. OS X 10.4.6 has come and gone… yet no word from the once-resident OSx86 hacker. Indeed, others have now taken his place in releasing patches for the new builds.

There are a few possibilities. It’s conceivable (although somewhat unlikely) that he simply decided to leave the hacking of OS X on PCs to others. He also could have been hired by Apple. Or sued. Or jailed.

What’s most surprising is that we have heard nothing in so long. Granted, hiring and arresting are both good reasons to break communications, but the whole situation is somewhat odd. We haven’t even heard anything about his other hacking exploits, like we did when he broke the Skype-Intel collusion.

So wither Maxxuss? Who knows. He is a sterling example of a controversial figure – a Robin Hood loved by many and hated by some.

While the debate about your work rages on, Maxxuss, here’s hoping this article finds you well.

Some people belive that 'Maxxuss' is actually Apple and they released the patches as part of a viral marketing tactic to get Apple 's OS X into the headlines.

Dvorak was speculating about this possibility last summer. As crazy as he is, sometimes he make sense :pirate2:

...Apple plays the game with some sort of trusted-computing lockdown. The source code for the exact mechanism is stolen or hacked or both. It's actually weak and meant to be cracked.

its a bit odd that the Maxxster didn't come out with decrypted 10.4.6 bins, he/she could do this in a couple of hours, no big effort. Glad others have taken up the reigns now though.

Last we heard from the Maxx they were talking about re-writing the 10.4.5 kernel.... maybe this is taking up their time.

I don't think Apple hired him/her. Maybe Apple did track them down, and gave them a nice iMac system to shut them up or something. I know if I had a nice iMac I wouldn't be spending hours a day patching up my hackintosh :)

Maxxuss

lmao none of us know who he is.

It's just one of those people that don't tell you who they are, or if they really who they say they are, but you gotta love em.

Personally, I think Maxxuss is a male student, who's just taking the time off for some studies - maybe hittn the books for an SAT retake, or maybe mom and dad's taken away the computer(s).

Doubtful that Maxxuss is either a girl or an adult, mostly because I find that guys are more heavily involved in computers, less worried about white-collar jail, w/e, w/e. If he is an adult, I am also doubtful he would want to do that. Adults usually don't hack - their much too occupied with jobs, careers, family to want to risk their life to get sent to jail. Also, as an example, the computer experts I know do things the legal way.

I doubt Maxxuss is in jail, because if Apple wanted to send him to jail, firstly it would have to be a case - which would most likely be at least a rumor or heard of since it would be a huge case of which the world of computer hackers would be holding their breaths for the outcome. Also, Apple would take advantage of this jailing or punishment, probably warning the thousands of other hackers who have contributed.

Maxxuss - just wana know that we're here and waiting, whereever and whoever you are...

Maxxuss is Bill Gates! A super-smart person who would love it if Apple lost money. Think about it.

Nahh... Otherwise there would be spyware included in it :)

i just think that maybe something is changed in in the protection scheme and he/she's just waiting for a bigger update that contains more usefull additions to make his/her work a worth

indeed, looking in apple changelogs there aren't much improvements so far so, i think maxxuss is just avoiding unusefull work and rest a bit trying to calm down all the annoying waterfall on his/her head

maybe maxxuss will popup again around the 10.5 release

anyway i hope the hacking god is still ok :)

People, we are still using the 10.4.4 kernel even on 10.4.5 and 4.6 updates because new kernels break ACPI and only support Core power management features.

The last thing I heard from Maxxus was that he would try to put ACPI back in the new kernels, so that is what I'm guessing he's up to now.

...you can fill in anything you want when you register a domain. I bet that's just a joke for anyone like you who might happen to stumble on it.
