  1. yeah, I had this issue (not with the same hardware though). What I did was a bit fiddly: I booted into Tiger, and used CC-Cloner to copy the Kalway disk onto a spare hard-drive. Then booted from that hard-drive, installed on my main drive, and it all worked. The problem is that the Leo distros are very picky about DVD drives. Work fine from IDE hard-drives though
  2. New Build of OS X Leopard

a lot of graphics drivers? does this mean Mac Pros are getting more choice? Or new iMacs may be getting new cards?
  3. Mac Users Have Different Brains

"...more assured of their own superiority" Mac users aren't superior. They may use a nice platform, but using a computer won't get you a nobel prize. Sorry. If having more disposible income makes you superior, then even His Infernal Majesty Mr Jobs has to bow at the feet of Mr Gates. Are people really THAT materialistic?
  4. A firewall for Vista

I use the fantastic Comodo Firewall, the new version of which is Vista compatible.
  5. A REAL Windows Activation Crack!

Doesn't work on my PC, I get a blue-screen on reboot (using the ASUS emu on an ASUS mobo even). Well, I've rearmed Vista all I can, it runs out in a week or so, but I don't know If I can even be bothered with it. I've been spoiled by my OSX86
  6. 10.4.8..... DOH!

Hi Kiko like I said, everything goes ok until I get to logon, when I'm getting: -- launchd: /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow port /dev/console exited abnormally: Illegal instruction launchd: /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow port /dev/console exited abnormally: Illegal instruction launchd: /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow port /dev/console exited abnormally: Illegal instruction launchd: /System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app/Contents/MacOS/loginwindow port /dev/console exited abnormally: Illegal instruction scrolling up the screen about 100 times. then: launchd: getty repeating too quickly on port /dev/console, sleeping ----- "illegal instruction" doesn't tell me or you a lot. I'll try deleting kext and kernal caches and see if I can't fix it. Maybe I need a new loginwindow.app??
  7. 10.4.8..... DOH!

I've had my nice 10.4.7 install for months now, but because of the iTunes thing I needed to upgrade to 10.4.8. So I followed a guide, updated to 10.4.8 and put the new kernel in there too. All boots up fine, gets to the logon window... then fails. Then I remembered - the guide didn't tell me to replace logonwindow etc with decrypted versions... doh! I could kick myself So I'm stuck with a system that won't boot, and the only decrypted versions I have are 10.4.3. I don't suppose there is a torrent or something that contains JUST the 10.4.8 decrypted binaries? Or am I going to have to download the whole 4 gig sheebang again?
  8. yeah Forky, and there lies the crunch. "Apple will sell you apps..." says it all. You pay $lots of the phone, but if you want it to do something else you have to shell out for that too. I think this is a bad move, at least from a European perspective where Nokia Symbian etc are kings. People expect a phone, yeah, but they also expect to be able to install whatever they like on it (within the framework). People will buy the iPhone for the coolness factor... then, when it comes time to upgrade, I bet they'll go to the next big LG or Samsung or something, out of sheer frustration. Just my 2c.
  9. not only that, but... http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/11/iphone-...arated-at-birth
  10. RC-1 released

apparently, RC1 is going out to six million people, not just the 1000s that had pre-rc1. I've been holding off testing Vista (mainly because I didn't want to download a new ISO each month), but now they're RC1 I think I'll jump in
  11. http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2006/aug/29bod.html Todays news is that Googles CEO, Dr. Eric Schmidt, has joined Apples' board of Directors. Now, what I'm wondering is, with (A LOT) of Mac people turning to Googles' free services, Gmail etc, instead of .Mac, what his appointment would mean for the service? What are Google getting out of this? What are Apple getting out of this? Are we going to see Google writing .Mac2 ? Are Apple dropping .Mac in favour of Google services? Is the moon made of cheese?
  12. so does this mean Creative's players are going to be able to play the DRM stuff from iTunes now? Or is it just headphones and stuff that are "made for iPod"?
  13. the moral of this story is: if you're going to download pirate OS from a torrent, don't go into work the next day and brag about it. Or even talk about it. Fairly obvious really...
  14. At least five employees of Apple's retail stores have been fired after admitting to having downloaded copies of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard from the Internet that were distributed to developers at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference two weeks ago. "Dozens" more also face termination... http://www.thinksecret.com/news/0608retailleak.html --- my take? of course they're downloading it. They work at Apple Stores. Macs are their life. I bet there are even people who work in Infinite Loop that have.... "borrowed"... a copy. What does Apple expect? --edit: corrected base camp
  15. Dual Boot using two HDD

you don't have to do anything... hold down F8 (I think) when you switch on, and it will ask which drive you want to boot from. Select your slave drive and OSX will boot. If you DON'T press F8 at boot, Windows will automatically load. Simple Although I don't know if OSX will run from slave... I had problems doing that. Try it though.
