Apple Updates MacBook, MacBook Pros

Numberzz

As expected, Apple updated it's products today. Today Apple released the new MacBooks and MacBook Pros, featuring the newest Intel processors, LED displays, and more:

MacBooks:

$1099. Macbook 13" 2.1GHz / 1GB RAM / 120GB / Combo / White

$1299. Macbook 13" 2.4GHz / 2GB RAM / 160GB / Super / White

$1499. Macbook 13" 2.4GHz / 2GB RAM / 250GB / Super / Black

MacBook Pros:

$1999. Macbook Pro 15" 2.4GHz / 2GB RAM / 200GB 5400RPM / 256MB VRAM

$2499. Macbook Pro 15" 2.5GHz / 2GB RAM / 250GB 5400RPM / 512MB VRAM

$2799. Macbook Pro 17" 2.5GHz / 2GB RAM / 250GB 5400RPM / 512MB VRAM

The new MacBook Pros feature a MultiTouch trackpad, similar to the one on the new MacBook Air. I can't tell if the Trackpad on the new MacBook Pro is larger than the previous generation, but comparing it to mine, it does look a little wider.

My point is.. why do you need another one when the one you have now is perfectly good..

the lack of firewire and ethernet is a really big problem when i have to share large files, and the repair is going to be 600

:P why does apple insist on putting "combo drives" on the low end macs??? i mean come on how much more can it cost to bump it up to a DVD burner?!?! we're in the age of blue ray and these guys insist on only putting cd burners? anybody else agree/disagree/think im too cheap to get a mac ?

some people may not need to burn DVD media and are attracted to the cheaper option. but i agree, this may also {censored} off customers who buy the low end MacBook and expect to be able to burn for example their home movie in iDVD.

PC towers still include DVD-ROMs. you dont hear people complaining about that.

I was thinking of returning my M1530 to Dell and ordering a new Macbook Pro. Yes, its a Hackintosh but I like the system and got it at a fairly good price ($1500 including taxes + free shipping). I'll admit the new Penryn MBPs look fantastic and with a $100 price drop on the Canadian model, I am slightly more tempted to buy in Canada rather than getting a relative to lug it over from the US (still $100 more than the US price). I still have 28 days so I'm strongly thinking about it now :P.

My M1530:

T7500 2.2

2GB DDR2 667

160GB 5400 RPM

256MB 8600M GT

Intel N wifi, Integrated Bluetooth 2.0 w/ EDR

15.4 WXGA+ @ 1440x900 (And its a beautiful LG screen too)

BT Keyboard/Mouse combo

I'm pretty sure you're wrong.. Taking apart the MPB and putting in a new HD? Yeah, sounds warranty voiding to me.

Apple leaves it up to the tech or store manager. Some void, some don't. The real question is why would someone send their computer to Apple with user replaced parts? Switch them with the original parts just before you give it to them...

I agree completely unless there's a way for the tech who works on the system to tell that the HDD has been replaced....Do you know if there's anything like this inside the MBP? Stickers that must be removed etc. that are a tell tale sign that the equipment has been altered or anything of that sort?

I'm guessing maybe because the slot-loading bluray drives are currently selling for $999 elsewhere, and also because bluray movies wouldn't even play under Mac because it doesn't have support for the DRM required?

Bleh at it being 30 days before my MBP 17" arrives :) - oh well, that's what you get for wanting the 17" High-Res Glossy LED screen...

no 1680x1050 :)

...

also want the Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, for lower power,

LED screen

under $2k

did take a look at the 17" 1920x1200, looks great on the desk,

but not on the lap,... and the pricetag is a killer, $3.5k loaded,... :P

the other day , seen one with a 17" , and he agreed too,

does not like the size, but likes the screen rez, he would trade his in ,

if the 15" would come with higher screen res asap !!! :dev:

also consider 1920x1200 for 15", just to avoid 17"

and where is the blue ray support ? :P

now find me a 1680x1050 replacement screen , with inverter,

and I'll think about it ! :dev:

Ahh, ok.

Anyone notice on the MBP keyboard, the apple button is gone and replaced with the word command?

never was an "apple" key, it's always been "command" just some keyboards have had the apple logo instead of the word

Some use thermal tape, but just be careful when you remove it and put it back. If you ruin it then it is very hard to find. Some warehouses sell it but you'd have to buy 500 feet :P

I expect the next Macbook will have LED backlit displays, the new intel chipset with new integrated graphics and (hopefully) a dvd-writer. I doubt it will have a backlit keyboard, but it might!

Well...it arrived...the MBP I've been waiting for and wouldn't ya know it, the damn "Combo Drive" is dead. Each time I put a disc in (and yes, I've tried many different disks), the drive thinks about things for a moment and spits the disk right back out at me. Arrrgggg!!! Anyway, I'm on my way to exchange the machine (in store) and am hoping for some better luck this time.

I can say that my brief time with the system was very nice. :thumbsup_anim:

hmm, I wouldn't mind a $1500 MBP! Good find!

As long as you've got a relative in the US waiting to ship it to you via USPS

Just declare the item as used and a gift. For good measure and to clarify 100% to the idiot Canada Border Security inspectors, ask your relative to bundle it with a gift card clearly stating that its a gift. Remember our government would love nothing more than to charge you an import duty :D. You could also ask your relative to register the system in your name, and then declare the value as a fairly low number ($800-1000 USD) so just in case your item isn't deemed as tax exempt you aren't paying 13% on the MSRP.

Good luck -_-

I bought the 2.4GHz Penyrn and I must say that I love it!!! I had one of the older ones with the X1600 and this one is a major upgrade. The most noticable difference is the screen. It is soooo bright! I have not had any problems with heat (unlike my other, which I couldn't even hold on my lap!). I must say that I am very impressed with this upgrade!

I live about 10 minutes from the border... I bought my MacBook at the Walden Galleria :D

I'd just take it out of the box and state that 'I always had the MBP' :P

I'll be tempted when they finally add a bloody full-sized keyboard to the 17" model.

It simply boggles the mind why they haven't taken that step already. I mean, come ON. There are people out there who really USE the thing. And it's a 17" high resolution monitor loaded desktop replacement laptop.

As stupid as it sounds, the lack of full sized keyboard has always been one of the more important reasons I can't stand the thought of the 17" model. (I keep on holding out on upgrading from my old 15" PC-Laptop in case they get with the program, but no love. No love. Looks like it'll be a mobile hackintosh when the time comes around again :/ )

It sort of seems like Apple gets the cream of the crop from Intel. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasen't Apple one of the first ones to get the Core duo?

Well when the new Montevina platform comes around, I reckon there will be blu-ray support, as the integrated graphics will be able to decode HD, which will reduce cpu load, and power. That and blu-ray drives will become more refined (hopefully)
