Hi, I was wondering if someone might be able to help me...

I installed Kalyway 10.5.2 on my P35-DS3R and almost everything worked perfectly straight away.

The only thing I'm having a problem with is the onboard network adapter (Realtek RTL8168/8111 according to Windows).

I've tried using the installer provided by pcwiz, I've tried the Mac driver on Realtek's site, I've tried another driver I got off sourceforge - but nothing works!

Every time I go into the Network area in System Preferences, it shows there's a network device called "en0" but always says that the cable is disconnected. (it's definitely not as I can boot straight into Windows and networking works perfectly).

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I know its off topic, but i had problems with realtec drivers for mac until i updated to 10.5.3... now i have wifi working on my laptop natively...

hey guys!! havent posted here for a while, but decided to let you know that i have updated my system to 10.5.4 with no problems... updated to 10.5.3 using kelyway and his kernel... than downloaded 10.5.4 from apple website and installed it too.. after runned kelys kernel again... booted with no problems...

also had to install nvinstaller v52 to get all support on graphics... sound worked out of the box... the one that was installed with pcwiz package - thanks pcwiz :( ethernet out of the box, and wireles mouse worked ok

Why installing kalyway kernel 10.5.3 after 10.5.4 update? Thx

I'm really interested to upgrade to 10.5.4 so when the 5.5 comes out I'll do a fresh install. But I'd rather wait for the proper instructions from pcwiz because I'm afraid to break things :)

Hey guys,

Kalyway made a BOOT 132 package for me that includes all our DS3 kexts, and when installed to the hard drive, it installs the modified kexts to a separate folder that load on boot. The advantages:

1) Full vanilla install

2) Kexts don't get replaced in updates

3) The advantage of BOOT 132 without the hassles of a CD or USB stick

As cool as it would be if it worked, I tried it, but unfortunately it did not work for me. I lost video, audio, etc. but no worries, its easy to revert back if your system gets messed. Contact me if you want it.

also no probs for me:

- pcwiz install

- 10.5.3 kalyway update

- reboot

- apple 10.5.4 update

- reboot

- kalyway 10.5.3 vanilla kernel install

- reboot

- NVinstaller v.52 (for me vanilla option =256mb)

- reboot

I've upgraded to 10.5.4 using weaksauce12's tutorials. Everything is working 100%

To upgrade from 10.5.2 Kalyway (pcwiz's install) to 10.5.3 use the second part of weaksauce12's install starting at:

3. Install the Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo Update.

Use this tutorial for 10.5.3 > 10.5.4 upgrade.

@macciti & longtom:

which kernel were you using before the update?

Cause at the moment i'm using a Netkas kernel, and I would like to know if after the update to 10.5.4 I can use the vanilla one to make all the software updates with no issues....

thanks.

OK guys, going pretty good. I updated to 10.5.3 and rebooted. It wouldn't boot, stalled at some USB error and rebooted itself. So I used the tip in Kaly's release notes for the combo updater and entered "update -v" at the boot prompt, and yay it booted. Applied the 10.5.4 update, rebooted, everything is working except one thing: PS/2. My PS/2 keyboard doesn't work at all. I've tried various solutions, nothing works. Trying the last solution I can find right now.

EDIT: Got PS/2 sorted out thanks to Chun Nan and others. I've posted a PS2 Fix installer here:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=117359

So, 10.5.4 on these boards is 100% functional. I know I've been delaying this since 10.5.3, to update the guide, but since 10.5.5 is coming soon, I'll update it then, unless there is a huge demand for 10.5.4 right now :D

So, only Kalyway 10.5.3 Combo update, reboot, 10.5.4 apple update, reboot?

No new kernel installation from kalyway package, no new video driver installation?

Thx!

Hi all!

This morning I've decided to risk the update.

As Pcwiz I've only:

updated to 10.5.3 via Kalyway update

rebooted

updated to 10.5.4 via the apple delta update (not the combo)

rebooted

nothing more

Leopard rebooted without issues but I have some doubts:

- in System Profiler in the Graphic part, it says that Quartx Extreme is "not supported". I don't remember if before it was enabled but I think so.

Shoud I try with the NVInstaller v.52?

- in terminal I've tried "uname -a" to check wich kernel I've now and it says Darwin Kernel version 9.4.0: is this the Vanilla Kernel?

- Can I now use software update without problems? I've still to update Airport and ILife cause I'had not Vanilla Kernel

thanks in advance

Yes use the NVInstaller v.52

yup. it worked :)

I'm tempted to try the software update, but I'm not sure to have the vanilla kernel

If it says something like this then you have a vanilla kernel:

9.4.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.4.0: Mon Jun 9 19:30:53 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.5.20~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

You can update AirPort and iLife even without a vanilla kernel, the only updates you can't do are the big system updates :)

To find what kernel your system is using type:

uname -v

in the Terminal and press the Enter key.

I'm running the 9.4.0 Vanilla kernel, as pcwiz, using weaksauce12's 10.5.4 update.

Boy, I've missed out on quite a bit. That's what I get for moving. =D I'm still running 10.5.2 on my box. I need to try to update it to 10.5.4.

Does anyone happen to know of a decent (reap: inexpensive) 802.11b/g wireless card that will work well with our setups?

I've heard some good reviews about the ASUS WL-138g V2 (Works OOB - Out of the Box according to many). I got it today and will install it when I get home tonight from work.

Just my luck, I install the wireless card and the computer won't Post? Wtf, it's either the motherboard or power supply... will have to purchase both tomorrow.

Thinking there might be a shortage somewhere or power switch issue... So I unplug everything and put the motherboard on non-conductive surface (wood board). I turn it on with a flathead screwdriver and same thing (turns off after a second). Unplugging the 12v 4pin molex next by the cpu and everything boots fine but no video... so it's probably the power supply, but I'll purchase a motherboard as well just in case (and I need a motherboard for a cheap rig I was going to build anyways).
