I think the 8800GT isnt too different from others 8800s. Maybe at hardware level, but not at the interface level. If it is, this would be not productive for nVidia. I think some changes in NVInject could work. Maybe mac.nub can help us.

anyone know how to edit these? can i just add my device id to it, and mabey it work?

Here is my experience with these drivers. I have installed mac.nub's OSX 10.4.10 DVD which has these drivers on the DVD (it took me an age to get it installed because of the JMicron issue with IDE, but I got there in the end).

I experienced pretty much what everyone else here has experienced. A VGA monitor, even connected via a VGA-DVI convertor, has to be hot swapped.

A single DVI connected monitor does not have to be hot swapped.

2 DVI connected monitors results in a blue screen and nothing else on the primary monitor, no signal on the other, so the 2nd monitor has to be hot swapped (as mac.nub has already said)

With a VGA monitor connected, I can go to System Preferences -> Display and I can see the screen with the list of resolutions. if I select a different resolution then I get the blue screen only.

With a single DVI monitor connected, I can go to System Preferences -> Display and I briefly see the screen with a list of resolutions, but it immediately fades away and I get the blue screen

With a 15" DVI monitor connected (max 1024x768at75Hz and a 17" DVI monitor (max 1280x1024at75Hz) hot swapped during boot, I can go to System Preferences -> Display and I can see the screen with a list of resolutions, but it immediately fades away and I get the blue screeen.

BUT

With the 17" DVI monitor connected and the 15" DVI monitor hot swapped during boot, I can go to System preferences -> Display and I get to see the list of possible resolutions on both screens (1024x768 on the Dell 15" and 1280x1024 on the GNR 17") and it doesn't fade away to a blue screen. However, I still can't change resolution as if I do, I get the blue screen.

It seems to require the higher resolution DVI screen as the primary in order to get to the display preferences.

Still a great release by mac.nub though

I got the ASUS EN8800GTS 320. I installed using the g80 installer found on the front page. Used 10.4.8 Jas and updated with the Koolkal 10.4.10 on an ASUS p5k-e/WIFI AP.

My 22" LCD (ASUS VW222U) is fully supported using DVI (slot closest to motherboard):

• All acceleration

• Display sleep

• itunes visualizer works full screen (and returns to OS normally)

• Dual Display Extended (After hotplug)

What doesn't work:

• After changing res in display pref I get a blue screen and nothing else. Have to reboot.

- This would only be a problem if a game decided it would change the res, and even then I have not tested it.

• Dual Display Mirror

Thanks to all involved!!

New version available for Leopard, see my site for download.

Note: Leopard version does not require hot-plugging on VGA monitors!

For those with black screens/kernel panics - e.g. GTX users on AMD/nForce systems, you will need to modify GeForce.kext manually and add your card device ID. As shown here.

8800GT Owners - The 8800GT is based on a G92 core, instead of the G90 core that the other 8800 cards were based on. Unfortunately due to this your card will not work with these drivers, there is currently no way to get them to, as EFI emulation will have to be used to get it to work - sorry.

Those of you unable to change resolution - this seems to be specific to AMD/nForce systems, there is currently no work around for this.

just wondering with the new EFI progress...

do you see the 8800gt's working atleast within a short while, or is it better to just return the GT and get a GTS?

--- Thanks for all your work man...

I managed to get mine working. XFX 8800 GTS 320, Leopard, just installing NVinject with the right amount of memory specified.

The only remaining issue is the dual monitor hotplug. But I can live with that.

does anybody get a crash when running OpenGL apps full screen?

There's a bug on the 8x driver that makes all openGL crash. It's something that can't be solved here and that Apple is aware of.

This bug has a lot of Macbook Pro users enraged. (nVidia 8600GT)

In fact there's a workaround for it. It uses the ATI Radeon X800 driver for openGL rendering. (in a higher level).

I haven't tried it yet, but it looks like rather easy. You need Xcode from Apple which I still have not tried to find.

Best regards.

Does this mean I can also use dual DVI monitors (or one monitor and a TV through HDMI-to-DVI converter) without hot-plugging?

Many thanks,

my 8800gt's device is 0x0061, anyone gets the same id?

i used the experimental installer for my tiger install, but a kernel panic then show up,

unless i removed the nvdaResman.kext to boot up,

but that results in no qe/ci supports :(

*bump*

shoulin - Even with the progress made recently, I honestly don't see GT's working any time soon. EFI emulation is still a new thing - If you want to run OSx86 I would recommend you returning your card if you still can - just make sure the GTS you get is a G80 based one, not the new G92 based GTS as that will not work.

socal swimmer - They use a different core GPU, however I do not know enough about the differences between the G90 and G92 GPUs to answer your question fully. EFI emulation is acheived by injecting specific code into the OS.

As for EFI emulation, I would suggest you read this:

http://tgwbd.org/darwin/boot.html - It should cover your question in-depth.

blkblt - Yes, that should be correct under Leopard.

muitommy - As already explained there is no support for 8800GT's, as they are based on the G92 GPU.

Nor is there support for the new G92 based 8800 GTS.

I have nforce 680i + 8800gtx + Leopard. I installed the easy installer for leopard with nforce patch select. Upon reboot I can see all resolutions and change it too. I have Dell 2707wfp as my monitor. But I don't have QE/CI enabled. What could be wrong. Please reply, if you can help me.

Sounds like all you did is Install the nForce patch, but not the actual NVinject driver - This needs to be installed too.

For example: NVinject - 640MB.

~mac.nub

Sorry If I did not clarify, but I installed the NVinject 764mb according to my card. Still no QE/CI.

Hi everyone! Need somebody's help here... Keep on having promblem with installing video driver...After I log in and exit console, Logon screen appears but if I log in it gets me back to console. I tried this thread http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...;hl=bsd+console, but I hang on at Startup screen and that's it... I would appreciate any advice if someone encountered the same proble

and knows the way out. Thanks!

itsalok4u - What is your card's device ID? Sounds odd, does the NVinject show under System Profiler? (Software > Extensions)

belijjaal - I can't help you if you don't provide me with any details about your system, card or OS version.

~mac.nub

Just wanted to say thanks for the 0.1.3 release for leopard! if i wasnt broke i'd donate lol! it works very well with the 680i! No problems at all! 680i users just need to make sure their arent any previous versions of the driver installed

my device id is 0x0191. Yes, I can see NVinject under Software->extensions. Also system profiler show the correct version of nvinject with correct VRAM. I can change resolutions. But no QE and software based CI. I just can not understand what the problem is. I have XFX 8800 GTX and evga 680i. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

itsalok4u - I think I know what the problem is now, the nForce fixed GeForce.kext has IOPCIMatch is set to 0x019310de - you will need to edit the IOPCIMatch Info.plist in GeForce.kext to 0x019110de then it should work fine.

belijjaal - If you read the first post on this topic, I explain that this requires at least 10.4.9 for this to work...

Thanks mac.nub,

looks like it is working. but the system profiler still does not show QE enabled and CI hardware based. I can see its working because before I was not able to play any movies in quicktime, but now they are playable. Is there any other way I can make sure that I have QE/CI.

Thank again for your help.
