I'm interested in trying Arcanis, but I'm not sure how to go about it. I would have to load the operating system first. I'm guessing you'd have to do that through USB and VMWare?

My board is the same:

Gigabyte 965P-DS3

Yeah, or installing the disk on a system where osx86 can be installed, edit the device id's on the IntelPixx kext and then put back the drive on the 965P system.

Can't try it out by myself since I can't format my laptop disk now, but when I'll be able to do it I will install OSx86 and then put the laptop disk on my desktop to try if it works.

Please report if this combination works with both cores in OSX86! I tried Asrock Conroe945G-DVI and Pentium D 930 and got terrible stuttering all the time when both cores were enabled (it was fine with only one core). I switched to my good old Asus P5LD2-VM and now both cores of 930 are working fine. I wonder what caused it, both boards have the 945 chipset?

I'm sorry to hear that.

Yes, I will report as soon as my box is setup. Hopely UPS won't screw things up for me...

Meanwhile here are two threads that may interest u:

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...l=conroe945-dvi

BTW, what version of OSX are u running?

Execute this command for me in a terminal "strings -a /mach_kernel | grep MAXX" and post the results here. I want to see what kind of kernel patches u have applied.

I don't want to see AMD_enabler and SSE3-emulator patch.

I installed from the Jas 10.4.6 DVD, checking only the "base system" and "SSE3" options. I don't have the exact installation on the hard disk any more to investigate on the kernel, but when I was searching for a solution, I even installed the old 10.4.3 8f1111 - but it had the same stuttering! Only way to smooth performance was to issue the "cpus=1" boot paremeter.

Hi all :poster_oops: I bought one Gigabyte 965P-DS4 (really nice card) but I was not informed that the ICH8 was not supported(yet I hope…) :( by MacOS X. I tryed to install OSX by WMWARE on my iPod and boot it up (the mobo allow me to boot usb device) but I did not managed yet

I want to try Arcanis proposal but I don't know how to do such thing ?

Tried to add the 0x28258086 and 0x28208086 device id to the intel ata drivers

I've been testing the Asrock ConroeXfire-eSata2 m/b with a Conroe 6600 for a few days now, at first with JaS 10.4.6 and now with the new JaS 10.4.7 DVD. I'm glad to report that most things work. USB & SATA all OK. Onboard firewire (TI chipset) worked out of the box. The exceptions are:

1) Sound (ALC888) which was rectified by a little bit of plist editing. It's now working with stereo out through the proper green jack but input does not work and I have not tried the front panel.

2) Onboard GBLan (RTL8111B) does not work but this was expected. Dare we hope for drivers from Realtek?

3) Logitech Premium Headset 350 works if Soundblaster USB Audio is selected during installation.

This m/b has 2 external SATA connectors and both work with the Coolermaster X Craft USB2/eSata enclosure. I have not tried hot plugging it yet in OS X but hotplugging works fine in WinXP.

MSI 1600pro PCI-e works with the boris method but single monitor only via digital DVI with QE/CI, res change & rotation. Sleep not tested. Hmm, I wonder what will happen if I put in another PCI-e card. I have a spare X300 which I can try. Here's hoping for dual monitors.

I also bought a new mouse for my new hackintosh. It's the Razer Pro v1.6 which comes with unibin OS X drivers. I have just plugged it in and it works. I'll will try out the drivers tomorrow. The keyboard is my old MS Internet Keyboard Pro which works great with the latest unibin Intellitype drivers from Microsoft.

The last thing to do now is to get the network up. I will probly use the DLink DGE-530T with skge.kext or a generic RTL8139 if I can find one. Once I've got that up, I plan to run some benchmarks. I'm looking forward to that.

Before I sign off, I'd just like to say that I think this Asrock m/b is great value for money with all its features. Pair this with a Conroe or even a Pentium D and they make a great PiCantosh.

Great summary!! Questions: What about overclocking? 3 GHz stable? Boot from firewire and/or eSATA running OSX possible?

Bofors, you're welcome. I must thank you too as your tutorial for building an OSX86 box with the Pentium D was my inspiration & guide to completing my first osx box. As you can see from my .sig, I followed it almost exactly.

Sammy, thanks, I have not tried overclocking. This Asrock m/b is considered weak in this respect as the highest FSB you can set in the BIOS is 350. So for an E6600, the max I can go for is 9*350=3.15Ghz which is still good if it's stable. Settings for memory timings seem complete. I'll have to check the BIOS again to see what cpu or ram voltage tweaking it allows.

I have not tried booting from USB nor Firewire but the BIOS has a boot menu(by pressing F11 during POST) so I guess it should be possible. As for eSata, it should work as the 2 eSata connectors are actually connected to 2 of the onboard 4 SATA connectors via normal SATA cables. By default, HDs connected to eSATA show up as either primary or secondary slave.

I've been testing more today. Here are my latest findings. For my first report, please see post no 233 in this thread.

1. DLink DGE-530T Marvell Yukon GBLan PCI card works but the skge.kext seems to be interacting in an odd way with OS X. With skge.kext installed, I'm getting many pcimatch failures but despite this everything still works. See my post no 115 in Hardware/Drivers for more info.

2. So now I'm using a generic Realtek 8139b 10/100 PCI card and this works out of the box albeit a very old box.

3. Samba or connecting to Windows shared folders is not working. Same problem encountered after a 10.4.5 to 10.4.6 update. This has been noted by other posters as well. Will try to fix this tomorrow.

4. Just bought a Soundblaster Live 24-bit External USB box for about USD44 in an attempt to obtain Mic in, Line in and SPDIF out. Will try tomorrow.

5. Planning to plug in my X300 PCI-E card into the 2nd PCI-E slot and see what gives. Hoping for dual monitors. Which kext does an X300 use? I've deleted a few ATI kexts when I followed the borisbandenov method for my X1600Pro.

More fun tomorrow.

Do you think is possible to install OS X86 on this config.:

Maybe, try searching the forum for Xeon to see some results for similiar machines.

Dual display support in extended desktop mode is very important to me. Looking for forward to learning your results. Good luck.

Hmm. Interesting question. I haven't even thought about it, but I have one very similar. It's got 2x2.4 GHZ Xeon (800mhz fsb) on a Tyan 2668 board (i7505 chipset). 2GB of RAM and a crappy PCI 32 meg video card (it does have an AGP slot, but in the rackmount case it was impossible to find the right riser to get the AGP and PCI turned the right direction). I hadn't even thought of running OSX86 on it. Might have to look into that myself.

Please refer to my previous posts 233 & 240 for more test reports.

A few more days of testing, more problems showing up.

I'm having Samba problems with JaS 10.4.7 DVD. I've been unable to connect to Windows XP shares despite trying numerous fixes including the Simple_Samba_fix_for_10.4.6.pkg. Consequently I've gone back to JaS 10.4.6. CLI smbclient works though.

I'm also facing the dreaded "Still waiting for root device". It's not entirely consistent because sometimes OSX will boot up fine, sometimes it requires about 30-60 secs to find the boot device but sometimes never. Wierd. Anyway in order to solve this I had to change a BIOS setting, "Configure HDs as:" to IDE instead of AHCI. A negative effect of this is that hotplugging eSata drives no longer work in Windows nor OSX.

Realtek 8139b NIC conflicts with the onboard firewire if I put it into PCI slot 1. I've moved it to slot 3 and it's ok now.

Display sleep is working with the MSI x1600Pro but not computer sleep.

Just had some time to a bit of Xbenching. This is for my Conroe box, specs in my sig. It's an E6600 running at stock 2.4GHz. RAM is 533Mhz. QE2D disabled. Beamsync enabled. I'll try testing with QE2D enabled and Beamsync disabled later.
