Conroe Mac
The benches are coming out for Mac Pros. I'm interested to see how the Conroe Hackintoshes compare. Anyone up to the challenge?

Graeme43
Its just a real shame that we have to use a cracked version of the os That gonna suck when 10.5 is released as they probably gonna steup up protection
sbeehre
I think 10.5 wont be a problem! everyone said that about 10.4.4 but it got cracked.
Graeme43
Yes but Apple can learn from that and make tight security I got 398.2! at 3ghz! sweeeeeeeet! 433 at 3.6 hmmm All I need to make mine perfect for me is a soundcard that will work with guitar rig as I use that all the time on real macs

Antoniya001
Ok... some more benchmark results.. Memory is slightly underclocked for stability reasons at the moment. No optimations at all... I'm happy to have gotten the whole system to work properly today. MacOSX 10.4.6 Jas + Jas update to 10.4.7 Got Final Cut Pro to run today as well. Very happy about that. Now to just increase my performance on HD Memory and CPU. Had this baby run XP at 3.6 Ghz yesterday. But not stable enough yet. Need to optimise my DDR2 a little bit more. It is not the CPU which hits the ceiling. But these results are at 2.4Ghz with DDR2 running at 266Mhz at 5.5.5.15 I also would love to see Crossfire support working.... Right now it is running on 1 card only I think. X1600pro Geekbench score : 248.8 XBench 1.2 : 116.91 A Geekbench 2006 (build 190). Email geekbench@geekpatrol.ca with feedback. alyssa
I have $2,000 to spend on a osx86 core2 duo system. Up to $1,000 of which can go for an LCD (currently looking at Apple's 23" unless someone can suggest a better one, please do.) Is it possible to have two Intel e6400? I want to overclock it to be as close as possible to the Mac Pro. I am not a big gamer but I play sometimes so money doesn't need to go into a great video card. I would rather spend money on a nice case (slick and quiet). Only need two HDD bays (smaller the case the better for me) Water cooled would be great but not if it's one of those that have a big bulky equipment outside of the computer. I could buy an IMac but I want the most amount of power I can get to better use Adobe CS 2 products which won't see a universal update for another year. Graeme43, Stainboy, Antoniya001 you guys have awesome systems!! I'd like to join that club
bofors
Up to $1,000 of which can go for an LCD (currently looking at Apple's 23" unless someone can suggest a better one, please do.) Apple panels are a rip, try the Dell 2407WFP: http://www.cmishop.com/store/ShowDetails.a...txtSiteTrack=FG Is it possible to have two Intel e6400? No. I would rather spend money on a nice case (slick and quiet). alyssa
Thanks Bofors! How about two Intel e6300 chips? (I keep seeing e6300x2 configurations for some bench marks) Those cases look like nice alternatives to the real apple cheese grinder I have seen the Dell 2407WFP and they don't seem to be as bright as the Apple 23". The apple 23" is ofcourse prettier. Counting tax and shipping the difference is about $160 and the Apple 23" is worth the extra price to me because the computer will be in a place where everyone can see it. It's just worth the $160 for something I'll have for three or more years. The Dells used to be a lot cheaper than the Apple displays but not so much anymore since Apple lowered their LCDs prices last week. Apple LCD 23" $999 -$100 student discount. What I meant with the last comment about Adobe CS2: Adobe CS2 products such as Photoshop, Illlustrator are currently not Universal binaries. On an intel mac they have to run through Rosetta, we all know that. I can afford to buy a 20" Intel IMac for $2,000. I would rather spend $2,000 on a faster system than the IMac is. With a faster system, Rosetta will run none universal apps like Photoshop much faster than the current Intel IMac. I say this because Photoshop is FAST when I tested it on the new Mac Pro and not nearly as fast when I tested Photoshop on an Intel IMac.
bofors
How about two Intel e6300 chips? (I keep seeing e6300x2 configurations for some bench marks) That is not possible, Conroe chipsets only support one CPU, not two. It's just worth the $160 for something I'll have for three or more years. Don't forget that Apple screws people with a one year warranty, Dell offers the industry standard three year. alyssa
Is there a good MicroATX motherboard that will be able to overclock an Intel e6600? I see there are some LGA 775 MicroATX motherboards on NewEgg but I don't know if they are good for overclocking. There are some nice, small cases I would like to use. RiceTea
If CS2 is of prime importance for you get a used Apple G5 Dual with 2Ghz or better. Or even the G5 Quad. Until Adobe releases an UniBin update (expected for the 2nd quarter 2007) these will be the fastest machines to run photoshop. I could buy an IMac but I want the most amount of power I can get to better use Adobe CS 2 products which won't see a universal update for another year.
