bofors
I am curious how such apps as Final Cut 5.1 Universal will run on this new breed of hackintosh. Media apps. like Final Cut Pro should see a massive improvement due to the fact that "SSE4" is twice as fast the previous SSE3 implementation. supernov
It's the first thing I'm gonna buy next. Just waiting a few months to get those prices down a bit. Actually, if this works out well and I can run iAperture and stuff like that fast, I'll stick with 10.4.7 and this system of yours. XP, no Vista next to it and I'd have a lightning fast experience. Can't wait, thanks for testing it out for us!
Graeme43
OS X is so fast at 3.6ghz! I have never seen it as fast as this before

Really, the only "weak" spot is with the disk tests. Adding a second hard drive in RAID 0 (striped) would almost double your scores here. Unfortunately, until we get EFI running there is almost no hope of booting off a RAID pair.
stainboy
i thought of that, of buying 2 hdd. but there were few changes i could get to run so... let's hope you guys get the EFI to work so that we (who dont know much about it) change our hardware
jwalker46
Bofors: Is it feasible to setup a pc with one hdd w/ the OS, and a Raid 1 pair for the data?? Stainboy: Congrats on your system. Since most features seem to work for you, can you summarize what does NOT work? DVI? High resolution (can you run 1920x1200)? Do you have QuartzExtreme2D enabled? I'm fishing around a bit, because if the only "non-working" part is RAID....you've really done well !

jwalker46
Graeme43, This is a bit off-topic, but...do you know if the mobo will happily run nVidia cards? (Not SLI, of course, but just....dual nVidias?) For that matter....has anyone tried dual monitors with this setup?

giandal
Hi everybody! I was about to start ordering pieces to build my first OSx86 box and I was planning to build it around the Conroe when I saw this discussion. I am going to buy the asus p5w dh deluxe motherboard as this is for sure working (according to graeme and stainboy). I've got a couple of questions for Stainboy, though. You said that one iso didn't work and you had to try another one, could you please specify which one? Then the sound was still not working, did you apply a patch for that? One last thing, following jwalker46, can you summarize what does NOT work (Graeme has almost the same setup and he says DVI is not working nor wireless nor line in). Thanks a lot from an OSx86 newbie.
Graeme43
To get sound all you do is edit 2 files and change a number , we both did it that way :censored2: I cant think of anything else that doesn't work. The JMicron IDE channel might not, but theres the ICH7 one and it DOES work
bofors
Apple should release a Conroe tower that takes normal memory and is smaller and cheaper :censored2: I think it absolutely clear that Apple intends to do this now. They are clearly billing the Mac Pro as a "Workstation" not a "PC". Furthermore, instead of offering some single CPU discount Mac Pro for $1999 or whatever, Apple is going in the opposite direction by pushing the "standard" Mac Pro for $2499. Even AnandTech pick up on this issue in their Mac Pro review. Hopefully, we see this new Conroe Mac tower, cube or whatever announced at the Paris Apple Expo next month. coolio2004
I am a little confused to spend more than 200 $ for the P5W-DH instead of 80$ for the P5ld2-VM SE. In this manual i found the same overclocking profiles up to 30% =FSB1333. I dont need a second LAN`, WiFi,DH. So- any more disadvantages? Coolio
bofors
The P5LD2-VM SE's 945 chipset is designed for DDR2-667 not 800 like the 965/975's and while the P5LD2-VM SE may have some overclocking features they are weak (the P5LD2 is a better choice for discount overclocking, but lacks the GMA 950). stainboy
1. Delete AppleHDA.kext: In Terminal, type: sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.kext 2) Edit AppleAzaliaAudio.kext: In Terminal, type: sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w): <key>IOHDAudioCodecVendorID</key> change the string to: <string>0x10ec0882</string> Exit pico sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext/Contents/PlugIns/AppleAzaliaController.kext/Contents/Info.plist Search for (use hotkey= ctrl + w): <key>IOPCIPrimaryMatch</key> change the string to: <string>0x27d88086</string> Exit pico 3) Clean up the system: In Terminal, type: sudo diskutil repairpermissions / sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAzaliaAudio.kext kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions/ 4) Then, reboot and enjoy sound out of two channels just something about that 30% overclocking features that some asus boards and other brands include: overclocking 30% from stock migth look simple, but it depends on all your hardware. for instance, the 30% overclocking included on the bios does not change voltages nor mem timings. in order to get it done perfectly you'll have to spend some time testing the perfect fsb mem timings voltage of cpu mhc and mem to get a stable system. also check if your system will be cool with that kind of frequency increase. me and graeme43 have made some hardware changes to the heatsinks on the north and south bridge so that overclocking is a stable and it is not stressing (too much) your computer cuz it will have to last for a while (maybe). all in all, all boards work different, even same model and manufacture, some people get it rigth, some dont. its a matter of time and testing and...know what you are doing. that said, i have to say that even at stock speeds (in my case 1,86) in Osx i get very good speed, everything works very fast and stable. i recomend the conroe (any kind) and the p5w dh. reliability, stability and performance. oh and... i have at least 4 iso that dont work for me.. all 10.4.6. tried one 10.4.5 and it worked... dont know what isos are cuz i've downloaded them and didnt got theyr name... i think the one that works is Jas... Graeme43 is best to answer to that iso thigs....
