Another motherboard people want to consider is the Gigabyte GA-945P-S3. Although I have yet to check the manual, it appears to have full range of overclocking features: http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Products/Mother...?ProductID=2324

Although it is not clear if this motherboard is shipping yet, the price is nice at about $100: http://gamegiants.net/product_info.php?products_id=536

As mentioned by SammyOSX86, Asus has revised versions of their 945 motherboards for Conroe. In particular, the Asus P5LD2 (version PCB R2.0, not -VM) looks like another potential great choice for overclocking: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&amp...amp;modelmenu=1

Again it is not clear if Conroe supporting version PCB R2.0 is shipping but the price should be right at little over $110: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131538

It should be noted that these 945 motherboards are rated for DDR2-667 while the 975 are designed to handle DDR2-800.

Yup, I made the mistake of buying 965 for that but I got mine returned as for my luck you could say.. i got a faulty board which is good in this case as I now got P5W with full support!!!!!!!! :)

If you want to you can boot from usb, that works!

Is the Marvell 88E8053 working too? :construction:

So it is confirmed that the 965 will not work because of the ICH8.

Not at all, it just has not worked in the first attempt and because OSx86 is finicky about booting, it looks like it is going to be a hassle due to the lack "native" IDE support.

Will any 975 board work?

Any 975 or 945 (ICH7) board that supports Core2Duo should basically work. As always, you have to check out the LAN and audio chipset details.

The Asus P5W DH Deluxe is being reported to have some BIOS issues: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=107648

The P5W series is being advertised as Conroe-ready, but what ASUS forgot to mention to its customers was the fact that in many of the retail boxes feature old versions of the BIOS, which do not support Conroe as such.

Many of the boards in the channel come with 0401 and 0501 revs which simply refuse to boot if the Conroe CPU is occupying the Socket - the board has to have 0601, 0701 or 0901 BIOS for Conroe to work flawlessly.

According to the HCL, yes.

I just searched all over the HCL but couldn't find any reference of Marvell 88E8053

Can you point me to the right direction, please? :dev:

stainboy,

Is your onboard LAN (Marvell 88E8053) working too?

I'm buying a Gigabyte 965P-DS3 tomorrow prolly.

Has anyone tested doing a plist editing to see if sata works?

If anyone knows the device id of the sata controller would be of great help, I'll use my old motherboard to do the editing and then put the new one to see if it works. Maybe the SATA controller is compatible and we just need to edit that to make it work. I saw ICH6 references when you load a SATA drive on a ICH7 southbridge, so if Intel didn't change the specs, we maybe can get SATA to work.

first of all, i wanted a pc that could run both win and osx so i installed windows, installed acronis, created a 100gb partition logical fat32. installed OS selector from acronis, on next boot i inserted iso image dvd and installed osx. next boot when os selector poped (i dont know why users say it takes too long...here takes 2 seconds from loading acronis os selector to chosing the os) the in tools select disk director then convert the partition to primary (i did set it to active but in the tutorial it says not to) then...voila. it was runing. lan was working fine, just installed the boris methode from some installers.... web site and did the azalia setup. i installed osx with speedstep disabled, HD disabled and Jmicron disabled. now HD is enable and working fine...2 channel out as usual. i get ALL screen resolutions and changes and all. i'll post the xbench as soon as i log in the forum in my new mac. ups machack hackmac... whatever. my new computer.

i know you asked in some kind of text file... the thing is... i'm new to this, dont know how to copy paste it to a text file... so i submited the results.

So it is confirmed that the 965 will not work because of the ICH8.

Have you tried changing the SATA modes in bios?

The default on the Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 is:

SATA Port0-3 Native Mode [disabled]

Onboard SATA/IDE Device [enabled]

Onboard SATA/IDE Ctrl Mode [iDE]

So I don't think anything needs to be changed?
