I tried deleting the kexts again, but the prompt said "callisto.kext is a directory." I tried just deleting the entire contents of Callisto.kext and CallistoHAL.kext, and now I still can't get into the login screen for some reason.

Ugh...

Hi takuro,

there is a simple trick for that directory thing. You have to do the rm command with the -R option, in order to be able to delete the kext and all subfolders of it. (e.g. rm -R system/library/extensions/bla.kext)

Be sure is your USB Driver because you need to format it

I'm confused. What are you trying to say?

Oh, and about the -R thing: I already got help from somebody on IRC. But still, thanks xtraa. Worked like a charm and I'm now in OS X once again. :gathering:

For those of you who are like me, and don't have a windows/dos install. Booting up from a livecd (i used ubuntu 5.10) and doing the following will generate the file for you:

1) Extract read_edid_1.4.1_1.tar.gz (It's open source and attached, precompiled because alot of linux systems are missing the vm86.h header)

2) Run "sudo ./get-edid EDID-OUT"

This will give you the file we need for omni's alpha 003 driver

EDID-OUT is not human readable, if you want to see what it contains, do #3

3) If you want to see what kind of stuff it outputted, because it is possible your monitor/video card do not provide EDID correctly, run this command:

"./parse-edid EDID-OUT"

It generates a XFree86 modeline configuration, but you can check the output to see what resolutions/refresh rates, etc. it thinks you can support.

Here is mine for example:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~/read-edid-1.4.1$ ./parse-edid EDID-OUT
./parse-edid: parse-edid version 1.4.1
./parse-edid: EDID checksum passed.

About EDID:

USB keys? Boot DOS? Live CDs? why so much hassle?

All you need to do is boot xp, enter the command prompt and follow Omni's instructions to get a 128 byte file called EDID-OUT. Takes like 2 mins. Pretty simple, huh?

Thanks, autoy! You're absolutely right.

For those of you who are technically challanged:

1) Extract all files from here to your C:/ drive

2) In taskbar, click Start > Run

3) In the emtpy "open:" field, type "cmd" (without quotes)

4) Command prompt starts. In the prompt, type "C:\GET-EDID.EXE EDID-OUT"

5) At this point, command prompt goes full-screen and a profile of your monitor and video card are made. Messages are displayed indicating whether it was a success or failure. If its a success, a file named "EDID-OUT" will be created on your C:/ drive.

6) Type "exit" in the command prompt to exit. (obviously)

7) You're done! The 128mb EDID-OUT file that was createc contains all the info that Omni's next driver will need!

If you want to see what the EDID-OUT file contains (since it looks like jibberish if you open in notepad), in command prompt just type "parse-edid edid-out" (assuming both parse-edid.exe and your edid-out file are in the same directory.)

This is the profile that was created for my setup (which is formatted differently than the output that Tiburon got in Linux for some reason)

Actually, its not a txt file. Like Tiburon mentioned, it's a modeline confing file (no extension).

At this point most of us are win/mac dualbooting. But yeah, Linux live cd is fine for those mac-only booters.

I did exactly what you recommend using WinXP Pro command prompt. However I am having problem with the Get-EDID.EXE under DOS. (DOS PROMPT: Get-EDID.EXE EDID-OUT) This is what I get.

"Run GET-EDID.EXE under DOS

the EDID data should not be trusted as the VBEcall failed.

EDID claims 144 more blocks left

EDID keeps on claiming same number of blocks left. Corruption?

Reading next EDID block

VBE/DDC service about to be called

Read EDID

Performing real mode VBE call

Interupt 0X10 ax=0X4f15 bx=0X cx=0X0

Function supported

Call failed"

DOS come to a halt. Have to reset to get back to WinXP.

It did created a file EDID-OUT about 80KB size. Can't read what is on it with either notepad or wordpad.

What did I do wrong and what should be the EDID-OUT file size?

Would appreciate inputs as how I can get the proper EDID-OUT file.

I am using Radeon 9550 (128MB) and Samsung SyncMaster 152S LCD with only VGA input. (No DVI)

I have a dell inspiron 8600 with an ATI Radeon 9600 xt turbo video card and a sharp 15.4 wuxga display. I get the following error when I run C:\GET-EDID.EXE EDID-OUT:

Read EDID

Performing real mode VBE Call

Interrupt 0x10 ax=0x4f15 bx=0x1 cx=0x0

Function supported

Call failed

The EDID data should not be trusted as the VBE call failed

EDID claims 144 more blocks left

EDID keeps on claiming came sumber of blocks left. Corruption?

Reading next EDID block

The above keeps repeating over and over.

Does anybody know another way of getting the display information that will be needed for Callisto build 003.

The problem I reported above was caused by KVM which I used to switch btween my 2 PCs. When I connect the LCD direct to the PC running OSX and following the procedures as outlined by Takuro, VBE Call was successful and the 128 Bytes EDID-Out file was created and properly parse using parse-edid.exe

Hi everyone,

I need to change my graphic card,

COuld anyone advise me a card, which is almost perfectly for Tiger? (QE/CI, cursor doesn't fall into pieces after iPhoto or openGl apps, resolution and refresh rate switching).

Obviously, I refered to the user testimony section, but I'd like to be very sure. I mean, if you should buy a new one, which card will you buy?

(and not too expensive, if it's possible!!). Thank you very much to all for that great great work.

Hey, EN Tech's Monitor Asset Manager 1.26 is handy for those of you can't be bothered to boot into dos or having difficulties with get-edid-do. You can download at http://entechtaiwan.net/util/moninfo.shtm. Once installed you can run the programme and cut&past the info into edid-out format.

Thank you very much! get-edid wasn't working for me, but the one you gave works perfectly!

Scroll further down on moninfo window you will see the modeline info, the 1st is dotclock, the next four 4-digits numbers are for HTimmings, the final four for VTimmings. Good luck.

Your ATI Card may give you the advantage of having QE/CI and refresh rate changes and resolution changes. You will have to follow the guides when you put it in. I Like both cards but also like having QE and CI. If I had to choose I would go ATI for now.
