munky: heh, yeah i used a dvd downloaded... i think my current osx version acually is 10.4.5 so i am trying to install 10.4.6 to see whats happening. But is the ATI kext files on the dvd?

 

I have been using mac for 4 days now, so I don't know a lot of stuff yet

don't know if this is going to help anyone but whenever i've tried changing resolution my screen becomes all messed up showing a doubled desktop. earlier i tried an external monitor, (i'm using a laptop) and after changing the resolution on the external monitor then changing back to the laptops lcd the image is perfect. dunno if thats going to help anyone but i thought i'd let you guys know anyways. running 1280x800 perfectly on an x200.

It works when I have the CRT plugged in. As soon as I unplugged it, though, it went right back to being all messed up.

lol, btw ive never said the driver doesnt work at all, just said no use to figure out on manual how to install it as this guys seemed to be a noob, and he will crash his system having the white screen + blue stripe so tha'ts no a good idea to try it when u dont have a minimum knowledge of the consequences.

Just a note: when i first tried to change resolution i got a black screen but don't panic just use

keyboard arrows up and down, it took a couple of pushes up and down to get "1400x1050".

Just wanted to let you know that there is - no matter what driver you take - NEVER any

mousetearing *if* CI and QE is disabled.

 

If you take the 10.4.5. AtiXXXX.plugin, it shows you that ci and qe is enabled in the sys-info, but in fact it is not. You can prove that by clicking on any turnaround button in the widgets. If it does not rotate but simply switch, it is disabled.

 

the driver is working fine here with an pcie x300 and dual display. I just configured one display in the windowserver.plist, not a display-set, so the other is mirrored atm.

 

Sometimes the driver starts up funny, showing me some flickering 2 in one screens or 4 in one screens, but you can still see the system settings, and if you change the resolution temporarely, it is gone.

 

Also the display seems to be crisper here. I swear this is not a placebo

 

Anyway thank you for the effort, nice job

 

 

Now i will switch to my nvidia GF6600 to see what macvidia is all about.

i haven't tried with my crt plugged in. hmmm... will try. but when i use verbose mode, the driver *does* detect my lcd's native resolution and settings perfectly. so there shouldn't be an issue with it.

 

also, i have tried both the AIT*.kext from 10.4.6 and 10.4.5 and no-go both ways. tons of others have my card (mobility 9600) working fine, i just can't get mine to. frustrating.

Yes, Callisto if mainly a frame buffer, you still need it in conjunction with ATIRadeon9700.kext and ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin for full CI and Quartz support

did anyone else with my specs get this aswell? I can get 1400x1050 to work with QE/CI now, but not native, but then as soon as i move a window, the contents get totally garbeld...

Just to clear one thing up. Chess is OpenGL. That's the requirement. Being able to play Chess just proves the OpenGL is still working fine.

I tried a second attempt to install the driver in case it was an error I had made during installation. Still no go. The login window never appears and the boot screen gets tearing.

 

 

I tried deleting the kexts again, but the prompt said "callisto.kext is a directory." I tried just deleting the entire contents of Callisto.kext and CallistoHAL.kext, and now I still can't get into the login screen for some reason.

I got v002 to work on:

75Hz is much better than 60Hz on my SyncMaster CRT! I moved all my ATI*.kexts to /System/Library/Extensions_10.4.5_Disabled/ but that might not have been needed. I'll try to move them back and apply the koverg patch to see if I can get acceleration again.

 

It's not completely bug-free, though. Sometimes selecting another res or refresh rate causes the screen to flash like a strobe light. And when I first tried it, the screen went blank and I was stuck for a while. But I'm glad I have this alpha.

Hmmm, do omni's drivers depend on the ATI*.kexts to work? I have all mine deleted. I can't get sound otherwise. True story. Got that tip from an old post on these forums somewhere. If it does, in fact, depend on them, what could I get by with to get my 9600 mobility running with QE/CI, and hopefully opengl? I'll have to dig up the ATI*.kexts somewhere again, but I'm sure I can find them - or find the 10.4.5 ones like it says in his troubleshooting or FAQ.

 

Oh, and in the field where you put your device ID, is <string>0x4e501002&0xffffffff</string> proper, like it is in his config files, or is that where my problem lies?

Checking omni's site for a new driver several times a day is panic, especially find no new release.

I have a Radeon 9600 Mobility, and the driver doesn't seem to work correctly. I have an idea how to fix it, but unfortunately, I just corrupted my OS X installation. Anyways, I'm no programmer, but here's my idea on how you may be able to get this card working correctly on your laptop:

 

If you are dual booting OS X and Windows, boot to Windows and download the latest PowerStrip beta here:

http://www.entechtaiwan.com/files/psbeta.exe

 

After you install PowerStrip, right click the tray icon, go to Display Profiles, and click on Configure. Inside this window you will see an icon labeled advanced timing options. Click on this icon, and Write down the pixel clock, and all the info under horizontal and vertical geometry.

 

After you have all this info, boot back to OS X and download SwitchResX:

http://www.madrau.com/html/SRX/About.html

 

After you install SwitchResX, create a custom resolution, and set all the values to the values you have written down.

 

 

If anyone can try this, please post what happens. I would like to try this, but I have work to do, and I don't have the time to reinstall OS X.

If you have been reading this (and other ATI related) topic you'll notice that that was one of the things I have been trying for a longer time: doesn't work for me

 

As already said before: the driver is forcing the pixel clock to use a value at boot time (in my case: 71000) but this value is not 100% correct and I don't think SwitchResX is overwriting the pixel clock value...

 

As also saif before: this was the exact same problem for me when I was running BeOS/Zeta on my laptop and the only way to have the pixel clock use the correct value for my Radeon 9000 (4c66) was by going around the calculation of the pixel clock in the driver (detect.c) and forcing it to use the value shown by PowerStrip. Recompiling the driver and rebooting resulted in a correct display...

 

This is also what I have emailed to omni but I don't know if he is reading our emails...

I have already posted my results with this a few posts back. It doesn't work because switchresX doesn't have the basic monitor information because the framebuffer doesn't inform of it and so it can't perform the necessary tests for other resolutions to be activated. But if it could be informed by the framebuffer there would be no need for switchresX, as we would have our precious resolutions working.

 

Conclusion: switchresX is useless for what we need.

however , No QE or CI

I use a ATI 9100 which is equ. to 8500

the ATIRadeon9700.kext not work for me , when I load it at boot it has no GUI

then I tried 8500.kext and i'm able to boot , but no QE CI

TEkNO and autoy as i said before OMNI should know by now that JAS's prerelease version is working fine (no pixel clock prob) and we have to mail him to get this version on his blog, as it only takes a minute to upload that workin driver.
