The hardware setup is an Acer Aspire One 150, HT enabled with bootflag cpus=2.

Hyperthreading works for me without that flag, always has - on both configurations in my signature.

Try to boot without it and look in Activity Monitor (click 'CPU' at the bottom) you should see two threads like in Windows task manager.

You've only got one CPU with one physical core. Forcing two cores may be what causes the deadlock..

After updating to 10.5.6 i get the kernel panic (attached file). it must have something to do with nvdarwin but i dont know what to do. i reinstalled 10.5.5 system.kext but the same problem. i reinstalled nvdarwin but still the same.

maybe you guys can help

I´m using Voodoo latest version, system is my Acer Notebook, see my signature

I have Voodoo Kernel 9.5 running on an dual AMD opteron (quad core) system.

I upgraded to 10.5.6. It runs fine. no obvious issues.

But...when checking benchmark scores from Geekbench and Xbench, it has resulted in

drastically lower scores than in 10.5.5. In Geekbench my score was around 4400 in 10.5.5. Now, it's 2900.

Also...looking at activity monitor, even at idle, the kernel is using cpu. I can only guesstimate the percentage but... at idle, the system use of the cpus have never been less than 30%. In 10.5.5, it was way less than that, more like %5 at idle.

let me know what's up. thx.

This is a KP situation that you guys might take a look into it.

I don't know why. But I was using voodoo kernel 9.5.0 well.

My system is i7/GA EX58-UD5 with HD3870 which has never had a problem.

After i changed the graphic card to 9800GTX+, KP has happend 3 times after 10 min. of rebooting.

I think I'm going back to HD3870 for a while.

'Hope it can help you guys to make better...

Thanks and keep up the good work!

I had the same issue (apart of the dual opteron, not that rich to have it ;) (X2 4400+)) and it seems to be related to the upgrade itself (10.5.5 to 10.5.6 from apple's website). I am using now iPC's 10.5.6 and it works slightly faster than 10.5.5.

Here is what I get:

Intel mobo DG35EC

Intel core 2 duo 3Ghz

4 Gb DDR2 800Mhz

500 Gb Maxtor

EVGA nvidia gforce 9500GT(Ok with NVinject 2.1 512mb)

Audio with azalia, ALC888s not working

Network works with Intel82566MM kext (fails when sleep)

I've just released my new version of the Voodoo XNU 9.6.0 kernel (V1.1 Rel 2).

Enjoy...

New features:

- Built-in fast binary decrypter.

- Fixed up HPET on some machines.

- Put AppleIntelClock hack back in (Requires modified AppleACPIPlatform.kext to work, works only on Intel AFAIK).

To attach AppleIntelClock: (NOTE: On every AMD that I've tried this it didn't work...)

- Go to /System/Library/Extensions/AppleACPIPlatform.kext/Contents.

- Open Info.plist with a (text)editor.

- Paste in the following piece of bold code:

Hi, i looked in the .pgk and found lot of other things which would get changed (not only kernel!)

I will try that but please first tell me why so much things will get changed.

I have an C2D Intel with mostly Vanilla orig. , i dont like patched things without to now why/how they are patched.

Please explain things changed with added screenshoot.

Possible to only install your mach_kernel by using pacifist ?

HINT: Perhaps build an ...VANILLA_CPU.pkg for Vanilla CPU Systems, which will need less installed (only mach_kernel?).

Thanks!

I will try this when i get home.

Before then, could you advise what HPET fixes you have done?

What is the AppleIntelClock hack fix?

Do we need to use the modified kexts supplied within your package?

I think NO WAY, too much changed by updating to 10.5.6

Do you not have an bootable other clone . very recommended for us OSX86 users !

9.6 beta killed my install, cant boot with the 9.5 or 9.6 without a panic now

WAIT !!!

Before installing that new .pgk (look at my posting above with .pkg content screenshoot) i would wait for AnV

to tell which things in the pgk (not only an new mach_kernel there!!!) may crash your system !!!!!

I cant believe that 2 people here tried that without knowing whats changed !

I'm kind of suicide so I try it, and kp on boot. Luckily I made a backup of every file so I started to restore 1 by 1. Finaly it seems fine after I restored system and ipfirewall, so I guess it's just system kext the one that causes all the trouble.

PD: I managed to boot with -f -s (also tried platform=x86pc)

Andy, I've said this before - I appreciate your work and efforts but you are continuously doing exactly the opposite of what should be done.

1) Despite repeatedly REQUESTING you to not call it "Voodoo XNU Kernel", you have not done anything about it. It's not something I wish - it's simply stated in the license agreement (APSL). This is by far my biggest complaint as what you do in your fork of the kernel is really not our business AS LONG AS you don't call it Voodoo kernel.

2) Your 'features' -- you added a built-in decryptor. THIS IS ILLEGAL. We made it a point to not include the decryptor in the kernel and this is part of the reason the kernel repository is not public. Please don't do this - not only does it put the Voodoo-based osx86 projects in danger (by association), but the PureDarwin guys are also using this kernel. They specifically requested us to steer clear of anything of questionable legality.

3) HPET fixes -- as you might be aware that HPET IS TOTALLY REMOVED FROM 9.6.0 kernel. Why did you put it back in?

4) AppleIntelClock hack - this is once again pretty worthless to do, not to mention it needs (according to you) a patched core kext and works only on Intel. What's the point?

5) Non-standard packaging. Why are you bundling binaries you didn't compile yourself? It's not a good idea to modify several kexts on the target machine, as you can see people's systems are crashing left and right.

So once again, I don't mean to sound arrogant but you are actually not helping. I'm busy with project camphor and my offline life. Given the many changes Apple made, a "woohoo it compiles" type patch is not gonna work. The Voodoo team is not going to compromise with quality just so we can dish out a 9.6 kernel fast.

Sorry for the public rant but it seems to be required. I hope it's clear now.
