Well, I was running Murvin's AMD utility and found 49 files for patching. Did the patching with same result "The Application ... quit unexpectedly."(kernel panic). It happening with just few applications on my system COD2,COD4,CiV IV,Palm Desktop rest of them like FC2,CS3,Microsoft Office etc are OK. Tried reinstall applications with no luck.

I examined the crash dump.

The problem is the dynamic linker (dyld).

Since you have AMD this is the one built-in into the kernel (the AMD patched one with Syscall emu for one...) which is used...

It is a known problem for some where I am currently working on.

hello to everybody

i tried kernel 9.6 and 9.6 1.3

both starts fine.. without crash.. but

the xbench slow down from 123 to 89..

and i have a thousand of

ioctl(_IOW,'d',31,32) is unsupported !!! how is it possible?

My smbios is the ANV-33 source that I've complied with 1066freq rambus and macmodel settings.

I also have 10.5.6 upgrade.. with older driver (means= no native 10.5.6 driver) about Audio, video, iousbfamily (to have stop enabled), and obviously seatblet.

I attach my kextstat..

I've noticed you are using AppleACPIPlatform version 1.2.1.

Latest version is 1.2.4 I believe.

I would set up the latest AppleACPIPlatform + update dependencies...

Also I'm wondering why Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X is loaded... This should be automatically blacklisted.

I would remove Dont_Steal_Mac_OS_X.kext, remove Extensions.mkext first...

Then reboot.

I examined the crash dump.

The problem is the dynamic linker (dyld).

Since you have AMD this is the one built-in into the kernel (the AMD patched one with Syscall emu for one...) which is used...

It is a known problem for some where I am currently working on.

OK Thanks Will wait for a solution...

Having this error when extracting a .dmg file.

When on 10.5.5, this never happend. Updated to 10.5.6 and every time the same error when opeing a dmg file.

What's causing this?

It's obviously seatbelt.kext (com.apple.seatbelt).

Replace under /System/Library/Extensions seatbelt.kext with the one from 10.5.5 (If you use Voodoo 9.5.0...).

Also make sure System.kext is the from 10.5.5.

I can't get either kernel, Voodoo 9.5.0 or Andy's 9.6.0, working on my AMD VMWare virtual machine.

What I started with is a working 10.5.6 VM on a Dell Intel C2D machine. This VM works perfectly on my Thinkpad C2D Intel laptop and home-built C2D desktop. So what I do is take that same VM and install Voodoo 9.5.0 (and later Andy's 9.6.0). Both kernels boot fine and work perfectly on my Intel machines. However, on my AMD X2 5600+ machine, Voodoo 9.5.0 always Kernel Panics while Andy's 9.6.0 either goes into a booting loop or hangs at the blue screen with a mouse pointer. I have attached an image of the boot loop. The VM is configured the same using the same .VMX file on all machines.

Is there anything else I can try? I never tried patching the binaries because it was my understanding both these kernels do on the fly CPUID patching.

On VMWare it required to boot with the busratio=<FSB_SPEED> flag.

That might fix it... try it and report back please.

When I enter busratio=200, it goes straight to the Kernel Panic. Image attached.

Right, my bad... busratio is the multiplied value used to calculate CPU speed.

Thus if your FSB is for example 200Mhz and your CPU speed is 1Ghz busratio=5...

Sorry bout that...

Thanks Andy, my FSB is 203MHz and CPU speed is 3.0GHz so the multiplier is 14.5 (CPU slightly overclocked, stock is 200MHz/2.9GHz), but it seems 14.5 won't work so I just tried 14. Unfortunately, it still seems to do the reboot loop. I've attached a screenshot of after about an hour trying to boot.

Hmmm, you also get these errors when the decrypter fails to work...

Have you tried installing AppleDecrypt.kext and booting with boot argument -nobuiltindecrypter?

Those crashes do not seem like they're because of TSC init code. It looks like your setup has other issues.

The kernel should boot up without any bootflags even on VMware now. If it really doesn't, you should try busratio=145 for 14.5 (ie. omit the decimal). The FSB should be autodetected, but if you want to specify that as well, fsb=203000000. Lastly, to check that the kernel is reading the proper fsb, busratio and clock frequency, add a -tscpanic to the bootflags to induce an artificial panic with some debug info, and post.

Thanks, busratio=145 gets the correct FSB and clock frequency.

First, I tried a fresh clean backup of my VM with Andy's 9.6.0, this time I got a Kernel panic right away.

Then I tried Voodoo 9.5.0. It seemed to hang after finding boot device, but I did a reset and the second time I got a kernel panic.

I tried both VM's - Andy's and Voodoo on a C2D machine and they both boot and work just fine. I just don't seem to be having any luck with AMD.

I've attached screenshots of both kernel panics. I haven't had a chance to try switching to AppleDecrypt.kext.

installer did not work for me... in fact, i couldn't even boot! thank god i had some other kernels installed finally after investigating i finally knew what was wrong it makes mach_kernel.voodoo and a mach_kernel.old and a shortcut called mach_kernel this didn't work so i renamed and now it works very well! thanks

  • 5 weeks later...

Installed with iDeneb 1.4

Applications run fine, but for no reason, and at random times, I get kernel panics, even when I'm not running anything.

My first Kernel Panic claimed that Album Art Thingy was the culprit. I figure it was a worthwhile loss to hunt for iTunes artwork the hard way, so I uninstalled it.

The next 5 kernel panics were from Window Server... 3 while the screen saver was running, the other 2 no screen saver, but system was idle.

What happened to the "official" 10.5.6 Voodoo kernel? Has work on it stopped because of the AnV "hack"?

Just interested—no hidden criticisms intended.

No, I have just been really busy with other stuff.

10.5.7 is here already though. I've resumed porting Voodoo to 10.5.7 now, it should be backported to 10.5.6 also. Let's see how long it takes to finish this. I'm trying for an alpha version by next week.

This is good news, thanks for the update. I've been checking the Google page for the project for updates, but nothing so I was worried that maybe the project was silently discontinued. Glad to see this isn't completely the case. I'll definitely love to help test it.
