Hey everyone, i followed this thread to install a xfx 5750 on 10.6.4 and im experiencing the following issues..

I followed tonymac's instructions on how to install the kexts..

if i install the x3000 kexts i get a panic...

If i uninstall these the machine just hangs at loading voodoohdadevice and sits there until i turn it off.. look at attached screenshots. for both scenarios. 1st screenshot is of the x3000 uninstalled, 2nd is the kernel panic.

arch=i386 is set

graphicsenabler=no

all NV* are deleted from /s/l/e

aty_init has been edited and installed

vervet has been added as well

Any ideas? This is not a fresh install, i dont have the discs or anything to do a fresh install at the moment.. this install was running a 9600GT but like i said i've uninstalled all nvidia drivers.

ndboost, I'm having the same problem with the KP in the ATIRadeonX3000.kext as well. I'm using only HDMI. (I've tried the DVI as well with the same result.) I've tried everything...ATY_Init, different framebuffers, boot file, adding my device ID, ATI ROM. Did a fresh install of 10.6 this morning then applied 10.6.5 and Graphics Update 1.0. I'd love to get it working...

I'm using the P6X58D Premium mobo.

then install bootloader manully and use boot8 file plus gfx enbaler yes

or use latest aty_init

then restart

and install gfx update 1.0

restart you will get gfx works :thumbsup_anim:

im running a p5q deluxe and a core 2 duo e8600 3.33ghz cpu. 8gb ram.

I'll most likely follow this guide here:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php...p;#entry1499108

update to 10.6.4 and then applay aty_init, is there anything else ill need to do? Where do i get the gfx update 1.0 from?

before apply this update make sure you installed aty_init and other kexts and restart then apply it

The second build beta works , the first one doesn't. also make sure you're running in 32-bit mode.

I only connect HDMI display to my computer. I have not tried connecting DVI display and then connecting HDMI display/tv when the computer has booted into mac os x. It seems that it enables HDMI sound when it detects HDMI connected so I think it should work fine too.

Is your card reference design? I have a sapphire card and I think its pretty much reference design. Maybe some brand that change the reference design can be a little trouble?

I am thinking that my Gigabyte HD5770 might not be the reference design. Could you tell me which Sapphire HD5770 you have?

Thank you.

why he use beta ;) and there are gfx update stable

when 10.6.5 final release it will be safe to use it :)

Why would he use a beta version? because it has newer drivers giving him better performance.

Why would he use a beta version? It reflects the next update so he can try to future proof it, and have least amount of hassles when he upgrade.

How do you know if it's safe to use this? Just because it works in the 2nd build of the beta, doesn't mean it's going to work in the final. There are no problem reports with people running the new Mac Pros with 5770 updating to the 1st seed of the beta which means it's the drivers fault. I don't know how your logic comes in play, but to me, if the original set of Apple provided hardware still works while set of unofficial hardware doesn't work? It's obviously the third party software aka the injector here that's causing the problem.

I'm not going to waste my time with you, all you've been doing it giving me the same reply and no data. I have tons of more reasons to upgrade.

I can only get my Gigabyte card to work with VGA-sub - it won't work with DVI.

I'm hopefully going to test out the HDMI using a friends monitor so see if it's worth getting a HMDI->DVI converter.

It seems a bit of a waste to have such a powerful card and be running a VGA cable off it into a full HD 1080p screen.

@Mohamed - I just tried the above ATY_INIT.kext and it make my graphics situation worse than the ##### ATI_Init (Vervet) kext in that I could only use one of the DVI ports with a VGA adaptor to show any signal. What's the different in the kexts?

Maybe MacMan & TonyMac 's kext could help some more people.

I'm still stuck with DVI>VGA converter for now ...

I have this card:

2 x Dual-Link DVI

1 x HDMI

1 x DisplayPort

The 5770 in a real mac has:

1 x Dual-Link DVI

2 x mini DisplayPort

I experienced the same scrambled screen when I modified my BIOS's Clock Info in hope of overclocking GPU on Mac

( of course, I failed )

See if your BIOS is pre-edited, or try another BIOS ROM if your card is a reference model

Remember, flashing your card and replacing BIOS ROM in /Extra/ are BOTH REQUIRED

Great thread thanks for sharing! Finlay got my ASUS ATI 5870 working, after 4 sleepless nights.

2ykxueo.jpg

Here a short walk through what I did to make it work:

1. dumped my bios.rom with Winflash on windows and renamed it to 1002_6898.rom

2. fresh install of osx 10.6.0 like here: Snow Leopard Retail on ASUS P6T Deluxe V1&V2

3. do software update to 10.6.4 reboot

4. do software update again, there should 3 new updates, but uncheck graphics update 1.0, update and reboot. (or you will end up with the black screen / ATIx3000 kernel panic!)

5. rename boot8 to boot and copy it to your root dir / by replacing the existing one.

6. copy 1002_6898.rom to /Extra

1rf8kh.jpg

7. edit com.apple.Boot.plist and add:

<key>UseAtiROM</key>
<string>yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>y</string>

reboot and check if your system is till coming up properly.

8. now do software update once more and install the graphics update 1.0 this time, reboot and pray. :D

Hope this is useful for some of you with the KP, at least it worked for me.

The only problem left is I cant get the HDMI audio to work, anyone can show me how to enable it? But keep in mind I dont know how to edit DSDT or patch AppleHDA etc. Any help is appreciated!

Cheers!

Q: Why it is needed to dump bios and load it unmodded (unchanged) later again ?

Doenst such bios loading is only needed if someone will use other / modded bios ?

To be honest I don't know, I just guess because the os cant read the bios or something like that. Maybe one of the cracks here can explain it better. :D

I tried many framebuffer and I think Vervet is the best. This weekend I will try another brand to test. Thank you for your sharing info.

Hy all,

I've finally grabbed a Sapphire HD 5770 too :( , the bad thing is that for now only ATY_Init is able to dump the ROM to ioreg's ATY,bin_image. Any way i've finally got it to work with Chameleon by loading the ROM file.

I come back to you with a much more cleaner integration of HD500 cards in GraphicsEnbaler. People experiencing 100% Fan with black screen (like me, Sapphire HD5770 1Go) have to use a ROM file, for the moment.

You can grab one from here or simply dump it from your IOREG while running ATY_Init(incomplete dumps). The ROM file must be named like this, and goes in /Extra folder:

HD 5670: 1002_68d8.rom

HD 5770: 1002_68b8.rom

HD 5750: 1002_68be.rom

HD 5850: 1002_6899.rom

HD 5870: 1002_6898.rom

HD 5970: 1002_689c.rom

And you need to add this to your com.apple.boot.plist:

	<key>UseAtiROM</key>
<string>yes</string>
<key>GraphicsEnabler</key>
<string>Yes</string>

Thanks to FormerlyKnownAs for blind tests :D

Here is the boot file, supports up to 3 displays : boot7.zip

Hi Mr Trauma - you are brilliant - thank you so much for this post, MSI R5770 Hawk now running in 64bit using the Saphire rom download and your boot with boot.plist amended as per your instructions - Thanks again - TonyD - Singapore.

Sorry for Noob post.

can anyone enlighten me in short words why to use the trauma boot/vga.rom method , besides it is 64 bit ?

a.I use cartris mac bios on my Gigabyte EP-45 , only 2 extensions in E/

b. Force-flashed my Sapphire HD 5770 with the best custom bios (after I tried all on techpower bios archive , besides the Hawks bios)

c. DVI works , VGA works, HDMI works with HDTV TV , 1920x1200 works with correct aspect ratio.

c. System is extremely stable , Geekbench benches , OpenCl and OpenGL bench scores are very fast

as you can see in this thread .

d. so , before I kill my running system..... where are the advantages ?

Tmongkul -- Trauma ?

Thanx

as

Is there a guide/walkthrough for flashing?? I did flash a custom BIOS according to this guide:

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=213336

But beyond that i used Tonymacx86's ##### ATI 5xxx-3 guide.

Also,

could it be that im running a 32bit mode and have 8GB of memory?
