terrancew_hod
After much finger crossing, I updated to 10.5.2 and Graphics update. Now I have to install my new 500gb hard drive for additional storage, remove all the applications that no longer work (transferred my settings once I upgraded from an old powerbook 1.25ghz), and install the applications I bought and but didn't want to install on an old machine. Loving my new build... Thanks! HotBreeze
Work. Boot up great, but no keyboard or trackpad working. Tried to backup some 10.5.2 kernel extensions (AppleACPIPlatform, ApplePS2Controller, IOPCIFamilty), but nope too, changing this, make me boot without graphics and stuck at "Login Window Application Started", tried to replace the old GMA kexts, but nope. A lot of errors, no boot. Anyone have solutions for this? freethinker
My graphics is still working fine with some minor mouse artifacts -esp with firefox- and I still have the same Suspend/Restart hangup issue I had with 10.5.1. if someone has a solution for this then Thanks in advance. Installing Firefox3 Beta3 fixed my mouse artifacts in Firefox, and I haven't noticed them in the OS anymore either. soul1239
Has anyone determined the root cause of sleep no longer functioning w/ the 10.5.2 kalyway update? From reading online it sounds like AppleACPIPlatform.kext is definitely possibility. Can I just pull those kexts from my install DVD, drop them in extensions then repair permissions? 1.86core2duo 4gb ddr800 8600gt P5B Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87078-how-to-install-1052-update-tutorial/page/16/#findComment-627641 Share on other sites

Criminal37927
I downloaded the file you had listed. Can you elaborate on a few of the steps? How do you back up the data? I know nothing about macs. I put in the "while sleep" code and then ran the installer. The installer pronpts that I will need to restart after the update. At the end of the update the screen automitically gets slightly darker and a dark grey prompt box comes up that says I have to restart in a few different languages.(I did not hit anything, this prompt came up on its own) Neither the mouse nor the keyboard work. The prompt says that I have to pust the reset button or hold down the power button. I had no option so I powered down. The white background with the gray apple comes up and then the prompt comes up again about having to restart and the keyboard and mouse do not work. How do I not get this prompt the first time? Concerning the replacement of "do not steal" with "dsmos" can you do a step by step including where to find the files and how to do the replacement? jaminmc
I think that this needs to be stickied. I started the software update, and thought, Hmm, I need to check Insanely Mac. I read this before my download was 85% complete, so I canceled it, and ran this, and it worked like a champ on all 3 of my Pac's. 2 have Core2 Quads, and one just has Core2duo. All run vanilla, and are running the graphics update. (2 of them have x1950's and one has x1900. Just used natit, and added dev ids to the ati kext) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87078-how-to-install-1052-update-tutorial/page/16/#findComment-631666 Share on other sites

fLuXuS
at boot up I get: b0 error WTF did I do wrong? for me this error usually goes away after updating the mbr or more specifically by reinstalling the efi (in my case v8). i assume you use efi? if yes download the efi pack and follow the instructions on how to install it. you can find it on the forum. pace out Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/87078-how-to-install-1052-update-tutorial/page/16/#findComment-631932 Share on other sites
LioNEXT
iATKOSv1 with EFI_v8 GUID on GA-965P-DS3 & Q6600:Downloaded the combo updater. Ran with the instructions above to remove AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext and change the line for dsmos. No replacement of any kexts thereafter. Everything works smooth. The boot times were little long initially like a more than 1 min. So I removed and rebuild all the kextcaches using sudo rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions.mkext and .kextcache files kextcache -e -z -a i386 kextcache -a i386 -z -k /System/Library/Extensions And then I shut it off, pulled off power cord for a minute and removed all the peripherals, ethernet, etc excluding keyboard and mouse. The boot thereafter was 35 sec. Plugged back all the peripherals and rebooting gives me mostly 35-40 sec.Hope this info may help someone. I am not sure if all these steps were necessary but they did help to shorten the boot times. I have a question though. Now that Nvidia 8 series graphics cards, esp 8600GT are supported, can we go ahead and delete NVinject? Actually I tried that and I could see now the resolution is native for the monitor (1680x1050) for the LCD monitor but qe/ci was not supported. So I re-installed NVinject back into extensions to get these things. Please let me know if I had to do something else that would natively support my XFX 256MB 8600GT with full res and qe/ci. Actually, that would cut down more boot time, not that I desperately need to cut it more but just that it would be nice. Thanks devin for this thread and amazing instructions. My Hack Pro rocks. I figured this would be good but I just wanted to check. Having never used a Mac before I did not know if Mac had a special backup that I should have been using. I did put the full "sleep code" in and then had to verify password. When you say .dmg vs software - I used the installer from the download, is that what you mean by .dmg? After my initial install I did get a prompt from Apple about needing a few updates which included 10.5.2 but I did not do any of those. Are those what you ment by software? The main issue though is that the tutorial says not to reboot right after the install but I had no choice. I had to reinstall after the failed update becasue I was getting the prompt screen telling me I had to restart. I attempted the update again and the prompt came up again telling me I had to restart and locking out the keybaord and the mouse. Do you have any idea what I am doing wrong?
