I dropped Efi 19,1 this morning am I’m getting to many people using it with trouble. If you check the guide or a few posts back there’s a notice about 19,1.

Please...save your efi on emergency usb key and try with macpro efi...(with igpu disabled in bios) ...give it a try...open Safari and try netflix...see if Mac freeze...

Bloody hell. It's like $150 in the US now. I don't have any rx580 Nitro in my warehouse, so I can't replicate what you have but at least we know it's a problem with the Nitro+ custom bios. This reminds me of XFX cards firmware. 

Have you tried using google chrome or other browser to stream netflix?

I returned it.  I rather have the $400 I spent on it back in my pocket.  Maybe I'll purchase it again once it's more stable.

 

Hey @ilcondannato, I also have a RX580 Sapphire Nitro+ giving me issues with DRM.  Maybe that indeed is the common denominator here.

Yes indeed, switched back to imacpro1,1 smbios and computer completely feezes with safari/netflix on login. However, the other DRM stuff works now out of the box (TV app streaming) without shikigva setting. 

 

Another thing I noticed between iMac and iMacPro smbios with this latest EFI. When launching activity monitor on iMac, the icon would bounce 4-5 times before the app opened. With iMacPro, it opens instantly.

 

Since I don't use sidecar, I think iMacPro is probably my better bet for now. But I'm worried about what the lack of a T2 chip might cause in the future using this.

with ALL other browser it works GREAT OOB ...but (maybe only Netflix) it goes only at 720p ...this because only IE / Edge and Safari are supported by Netflix to play 1080p and 4K ... (there's a little trick to make 1080p on chrome...but it's not the point..) .LoL I watch on my tv on 4K no problem...it's only MY problem...need to have all working! LoL

LoL I'm NOT ALONE! ahahahahah (LoL) Sure, iMac is probably the best way to have stable osx with this MB...btw the problem is freezing on Netflix... lol ahahahah I never use Netflix on safari before last week so...for it's a "new" problem... btw Think is related to incompatibility with this card and Catalina...

I bought just yesterday the RX 580 Nitro+ + because I thought was the best way to avoid the issues, do you think with the Sapphire VEGA 64 Nitro+ and Catalina is it better?

I use a nitro+ SE Vega 56 and it works perfectly for me so the 64 should be exactly the same. :)

Does not work when flashed to pulse, black screen with no power .. tried it ;)

 

Maybe a bios edit to change the id on the Nitro+ bios file to reflect that of a pulse would be better, dunno if i can be bothered with all that..

 

I resigned that this is not working on my card and will watch Netflix on chrome like i always have been anyway ..

what you need to ask yourself is it worth all the bother just to use Netflix on safari when you can use it on any other browser? I mean really guys?  
more to the point is who watches Netflix on a computer now days anyway? 
if it’s not on a tv it’s on a tablet or phone, it’s all a it of a fruitless if you ask me. OCD to the major extreme :hysterical::hysterical::hysterical:

Ohh i agree, its been fun playing with it, tis why im here playing with hacks, making stuff work that should really not .. a bit of OCD for sure in this case .. I have plenty of places to watch Netflix, Safari just seems the correct place right now since it does not work .. lol :)

It's the right device ID for RX580. 0x1002 0x67DF

You guys can experiment with shiki values or try inject boardID with -ShikiID=[boardid]

Which board-id should I be injecting?  Also, is there any negatives to just using the shiki flag?

 

I get this in console when trying to play DRM content on Apple TV+

As per injecting shiki values and board id's.. cant say the ones i tried work either..  1, 32,64 etc .. boot options like 

 

shikigva=96 shiki-id=Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94

 

have gave 0 success for me .. cant say i exhausted all the shiki values but these made sense when i used them.

i had little success either with the resetting of DRM values, mainly got not found back .. The other hw decoder values i aint tried yet in any anger.. its in the post but im not sure how it will go ..

If i use iMac19,1 i get a black screen with ATV+ with 9900k and iGPU enabled, if i disable this iGPU in BIOS and use iMacPro1,1 it works fine for me.  I inject no board id or have any other values in graphics or devices > properties. Only Netflix and safari am i having a problem with.. Would not surprise me if this was all a Safari problem since everything else works ...

 

EDIT -- Whats funny is upon reading old posts of mine here, i came across one from 2015 where i state i have no idea how to make HTML5 work on Safari and Netflix ... fsck me .. i have been looking at this problem for years .. just didn't know it :) . back then i used Silverlight and probably i was caring not that it did not work but i was more interested in the fact i had a perfect(ish) iMac 13,2 running on a 3770k and a GTX970, Unix with a smile im sure id have been thinking :) ...

Well, injecting shikigva=36 & shiki-id=Mac-7BA5B2D9E42DDD94 fixed Apple TV+ for me.  Let's see what's up with Netflix now.
