Many thank man! Glad to hear that CI and QE are supported by default. Color me surprised.

EDIT: I found the answer to the boot.plist question I just asked here.

EDIT # 2: Editing the boot.plist per the link I included above screwed up my installation. Here is what I added to the file:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1280x1024x32@60</string>

During boot the screen showed the text annunciation of Darwin booting (it had never done this before). It seemed to freeze for a while before reading from the HDD and then simply flashing from black to black background with static white boot text. Very weird.

I'm reinstalling OS X now. Any idea what I did wrong with the boot.plist file?

If you didn't try the solution that Boris has posted i suggest you try that. I think you are right in saying your first install was unique. Munky and a few select others have gotten their x1800xl's working but they are on 10.4.5. Try using the 10.4.6 jas install with the solution Boris has made and let us all know. There are many people here wanting to get a x1800xl, me included ;) , but don't want to 'cos of it not always working

-----------------

I'm thinking of buying a x1800xl like Munky's. If i use the Jas 10.4.6 install dvd and then use a 10.4.5 ATINDRV and Boris's method should it work? I can't seem to find any torrents for myzar 10.4.4/5 install dvd so I'm stuck with the 10.4.6

RobNyc, that isn't tearing i don't think. i had those same strange icon weirdness with a gma900 natively working card. this was long ago, i had screwed something up, or something had become corrupted. i didn't bother to find out, i just reinstalled. it never happened again.

I just realised i've never tried the 10.4.6 ACPI kext. Those with fully working sleep and x1600/x1800 cards... are you using the 10.4.6 ACPI kext?

I have installed with both 10.46 from jas and goat, and x1800gto works but no sleep (but on 10.4.5 atindrv as told). OpenGL is going perfectly. I presume that they install 10.4.6 acpi kexts...

darn. what does sleep do? does it go to sleep, seem to come back but doesnt init the display? or what?

i think its the 10.4.6 ATINDRV that gives working sleep. but afaik it doesnt work with our X1800 cards :D

hmm.. im forming the opinion that the ACPI kext is working correctly, but the display is letting us down. i might try just the 10.4.6 ATINDRV.kext tonight, with all the 10.4.5 frameworks and other kexts.

Smoothy: you will need the X1000 kexts and possibly the frameworks (OpenGL etc) from 10.4.5, but yeah, i'd guess it would work.

my card is the GeCube X1800XL PCI-E 256Mb GDDR3 (phew!) if thats any help.

Thats the exact card I'm looking at  . Is it against forum rules to post the files i need? As, unless they are hosted somewhere on the world wide web i have no way of getting them because I'm stuck with the JaS 10.4.6 install dvd, not that that is a bad thing though....

I am having severe problems with my ati radeon x1600 pro 512mb gddr2 pciex with osx86.

I have installed a fresh copy of 10.4.6(hotiso) and have followed the steps outlined in post 2 of this thread. After i restart, I still do not have qe and ci supported, nor can i change resolutions or refresh rates. Is there something that i'm missing? I followed every step detail by detail, but to no avail. Could someone please provide a step by step detailed tutorial so that I can get my card working properly?

My aim name is rmjlk, i will be at my desk until 7pm est. I know its something small which i missed and my attention deficit has kicked in full force.

Dietshake, this guide is more detailed than post 2, but that's about as detaled as you can get:

1 I first ran from my onboard GMA900 card, just to be safe. In /Systems/Library/Extensions, I deleted all GeForce and ATIRadeon files except the following 4:

ATIRadeonX1000kext

ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin

ATIRadeonX1000GLDriver.bundle

ATIRadeonX1000VADriver.bundle

ATINDRV.kext

2 Edit ATINDRV.kext as follows: Change <string>IONDRVDevice</string> to read <string>IOPCIDevice</string> And change <string>ATY,WORMY</string> to read <string>display</string>

3 Next, edit ATIRadeonX1000.kext as follows: Look for the IOPCIMatch and change the following line to <string>0x71C21002</string> I just deleted all other references to other devices and the 71C2 should refer to your device id Also, on the next line, make sure that your IOProviderClass is listed as IOPCIDevice

4 Edit ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin as follows: make sure these two lines show your device id and keep in mind, it's backwards:

<key>100271C2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key>

<string>100271C2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string>

I also think I changed this line, not sure but make sure this is how what your edited plist will show, pay attention to the last line.

<key>IOProviderClass</key>

<string>IONDRVFramebuffer</string>

5 sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

sudo rm /System/Library/Extentions.kext.cache

sudo kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions

6 Go to Disk Utilities, repair permissions, reboot and Bob's your uncle

i dont see any tearing, r u using 10.4.5 ATINDRV? then u should

Well what is that then? lol

no im not using nothing from 10.4.5

RobNyc, that isn't tearing i don't think. i had those same strange icon weirdness with a gma900 natively working card. this was long ago, i had screwed something up, or something had become corrupted. i didn't bother to find out, i just reinstalled. it never happened again.

Guess, it seems I have to reinstall soon then =\

darn. what does sleep do? does it go to sleep, seem to come back but doesnt init the display? or what?

I don't know. If I select sleep from the Apple menu, then it correctly goes to sleep, but after when I move the mouse I only get a blue screen. I will try some more options in the bios, as I have a few options for suspend and sleep there.

But whats odd is the Energy Saver which put computer to sleep after 30 mins, it simply doesn't. It does freeze the display only. But it resumes normally when I move the mouse.

I get 'GeForce.kext' from my G5, I wish it can help the x1000 for two monitor.

I think right now the problem is about detect the second monitor, I wish it can get some help.. If anyone want some kext from G5, please tell me :>

I installed an ATI X1600 PCI-E with 512GDDR2. I followed boris' procedures in this forum.

The card is an ATI boxed product with the same vendor and device ids as the MSI he has.

Now my system profiler indicates that QE/CI are supported. Quake3 unibin will start fullscreen but fails if I change any video options. The splash effects in dashboard work but no ppc games will start. No fullscreen 3d works. I cannot change display resolutions. The display properties are stuck on 1024x768.

What would keep me from using the other resolutions and full screen 3d?

Thanks for any advise.

redcoke - that kext wont help for two important reasons:

1) its 'geforce' - which is a reference to nVidia, whereas X1000 is ATI

2) its from a powerpc mac - ppc kexts are not compatible with osx86.

sorry to be the bearer of bad news :D

Do these procedures only work for LCD monitors? I have 21 inch IBM CRT.

Ive got jas 10.4.6 installed , Edited nothing but kexts the boris way and everything works superb im plugged into dvi with supplied adapter and sleep works 100% havent tried it without i did notice tho when the suspend state is set to s1 in bios sleep doesnt awaken but works 100% when set to s3

Curlyboy i think that sleep only works on Intel systems, at least it looks like.

About the DVI problem i think it should be anything on the Asus X1600XT Silence bios, that make the Mac OS detect the LCD display. Anyone tryed to flash a normal XT with ASUS XT silence version bios ? It could take some problems because of the diferent thermal options of the silence version (no fan ?), but it should make the DVI work properly. Anyone with a Asus X1600XT Silence and a DVI display can post here a ioreg -l (ioreg -l > file.txt) and attach file ?
