Numberzz
Mac OS X 10.5.4 has been released by Apple and is available through Software Update. The Delta Update weighs in at about 59MB. The update appears to be mostly a bug fixing release. MobileMe support is not mentioned in the documentation. 10.5.4 is safe if you have a vanilla install, be sure to back up kexts however. Here is a list of the main fixes in the release: -Includes recent Apple security updates. -Resolves an issue with saving and reopening Adobe Creative Suite 3 files on a remote server. -Includes additional RAW image support for several cameras. -Addresses an issue that may result in a partially installed X11 application. -Improves L2TP VPN client reliability. -Addresses AirPort reliability issues with 5GHz networks. -Addresses AirPort issues that may result in slower performance in Logic Studio or MainStage. -Addresses a potential performance issue when loading secure web pages. -Resolves issues that may be encountered when accessing secure web pages with client certificates that reside on a smart card. -Addresses an issue in which switching from a space with a Finder window keeps the Finder as the active application instead of the application residing in the destination space. -Fixes an issue in which dragging an application from the list of application assignments in Spaces System -Preferences does not assign the application to the desired space. -Resolves an Exposé issue that may result in only a subset of windows being shown. _Stoddie
Guide to Update to 10.5.4 from your Hackintosh ( Combo Update Only). ( source from http://www.ipodtouchfans.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67890 its the same as 10.5.2 and 10.5.3 ) Download 10.5.4 do not use software update unless you have 10.5.3 installed and your computer is vanilla compatible Quote: Open Terminal sudo -s *type password* while sleep 1; do rm -rf /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext; done Open 10.5.4 Update Installer Run update BUT DO NOT RESTART Go back to your terminal and press Control C to end the script In terminal type: nano /System/InstallAtStartup/scripts/1 Replace the line Dont Steal Mac OS X.kext with dsmos.kext if you running vanilla kernel then just reboot without changing the kernel but if your running a hacked kernel you will need to install a different kernel BEFORE restarting because the install will just set vanilla as default i used kalyway 10.5.3 kernel and it worked just fine had to replace a few of kexts i.e. sound and applsmbios.kext Restart and boot with -v remember to back up kext's and replace them if needed in 10.5.4 if any of you have problems with graphics and you use nvinject.kext then let me know because i have a solution as you can see from the attached picture Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/113299-1054-released/#findComment-802081 Share on other sites
erbic
Update shows as 88MB from the http download: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1054update.html It comes through as 59 megs if you get it through Software Update. Wonder why there's a discrepancy... weird. Yep cabron, useless...I've using a 5.4 update from the Bay, or Demon, i can't remember, for a while..., Build 9E6. If possible, someone confirm the build version, plz. PS: Probally a diferent Build, this one have a new kernel, the one that in using here, don't have... Let's see what happen here.... The build number is 9E17, so it's a bit later than that. Prolly a new kernel. macgirl
I think this update is the easiest, (not the combo of course). The Delta do not need anything special, if you have PC EFI or chameleon and running vanilla kernel of course. Should I still do these steps? Thanks! *confused* EDIT: One more question (Probably stupid). Let's say I reformatted my Hack using the old Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD installer. Can I just update it to 10.5.4 right away OR should I do 10.5.3 first before going 10.5.4? I ask because of the file-size differences. Standalone update installers of the previous version realeases are way bigger than this 88mb update. I know for a fact that I can update 10.5.1 to 10.5.3 directly. NYC Coyote
I have the vanilla kernel and all went good with the normal software update. And of course I immediately did a time machine backup before and after (just in case). One important side note...if you have a vista partition......this will kill the boot. You need to boot from the install dvd for vista and perform a repair installation (takes less than a min) and then you are golden. Aries326
I'm still a noob at this stuff even though I've got a fully functional hackintosh. What program do I use to backup my kext files? Also, I'd like to avoid having to reinstall bronya's drivers and displayconfigx. If I use this upgrade, what are the chances I lose bronya's drivers?
