Maybe an ftp link? I've got this bloody stupid HP Pavilion (Pentium D 930) running WinXPHome and I've yet to get a clean torrent link to a large file. (Although GetRight does a decent job for torrents *under* 300MB.) I'm thinking I should get a copy of the OSX Tiger release from Usenet... Any thoughts?

From what I've read, and if you're running a vanilla kernel, you can go install 10.5.4 without any problems. YMMV though.

I've sussed my kernel question btw. Well, I hosed my install trying to get 10.5.3 installed, so started again, and made sure I checked which kernel I was on. The default is not Vanilla.

So now I'm running the Vanilla kernel, which seems quite happy, but still can't get the standard 10.5.3 to install using the guides I've found.

The next step is to try the Kalyway 10.5.3 package. Then 10.5.4 from there.

Cableguy, I should have an answer tonight as to whether 10.5.4 "just works". With the vanilla kernel, anyway.

Hmm So should i do an update to 10.5.4 ?

is it alot better than 10.5.2 ?

Thanks

I've installed this version of mac on my dell E1405. Installation went just fine then rebooted and got to the grey apple screen right before the welcome screen I assume. Then my screen goes black and I see nothing. Well from what I read in the readme file that is graphics problems. So I followed the instructions and typed -s at the darwin prompt. I got to the root login where it told me to type in

mount -uw / and then /movevideodrivers after this it says I will be prompted whether I want to move them or not type yes if I do or enter to skip.

Well I typed in mount -uw /movevideodrivers and get this error

mount: unknown special file or file system /movevideodrivers

So then I tried typing mount -uw / and then hitting enter and then typing /movevideodrivers and got this error

/movevideodrivers: No such file or directory

So then I try mount -uw / /movevideodrivers and get this error

mount: realpath /movevideodrivers: No such file or directory

Ok so I tried this command in many ways because honestly I have no clue what this person is trying to tell me to type in. I need some help here if I am not typing the right command can someone tell me what I need to type. I'm clueless on this and beside the video not working it seems everything else is fine. I can see my hard drive light going at it like it's loading ocx but I can't see nothing but a black screen. I need some assistance thanks.

I just got a C762NR (Best Buy $400 laptop that went on sale today)

Anyway I'm getting a blue screen after install, sound starts playing etc but its just blue, so I figured I would hook it up to a 2nd monitor to see if it had been set to primary.

I tried the following to no avail.

Notes: if you have problems on reboot with video gfx (blue or black screen)

All you have to do is just press F8 at Darwin's prompt and then type -s (single user mode) then

at root type mount -uw /

and /movevideodrivers

then it will be prompt to move video drivers by class ( nvidia ; ati ; or intel gma) voila!

type yes to confirm or enter to skip !

Any thoughts?

I had a chance to build up a custom hackingtosh with a G5 Pro Case. I

got to admit this machine is not bad in comparison to some Mac G5's. Running Kalyway 10.5.1 with 3GHz Intel P4 Proc, 1GB ram, Sata DVD-r, 75GB Raptor, 7800GT Nvidia 256MB just installed (6600 shown in the photo but not recomended it really lagged the system). All works good with exceptions to sound. I'll figure it out some day but so far so good on 2 weeks going strong. Wish there was support for Auto Power on timer as macs have. But not complaining. Here's some photos:

hey "hkechung", write the following commands ....

While booting press F8 and type the following in the "boot:"

cmd line:sudo_-s ....

where ? in Single user interface ???

or in Boot menu ????

>#sudo -s
>#/sbin/mount -uw /
>#passwd root
(this will then ask u to enter the new password for the root two time... don`t worry if the screen shows nothing that u have typed.....its for security purpose)
>#touch /var/db/.applesetupdone
>#reboot

After the above things when it reboots it will take directly to the login screen...

just login with the root account and with the password u gave just above and enjoy!!!!!

in Single User - when i type

># passwd root

i get error

"launch_msg(): Socket is not connected

passwd: Unable to open Directory node with name /Local/Default. Unable to open node."

Hey Guys,

Last night I tried installing Kalyway 10.5.2 on my PC (I already have Vista installed in one partition - trying to install Leopard in a second partition).

When I boot from the Kalyway DVD, I keep getting stuck at a Kernel Panic, and it stops at this:

Kernel Version:

Darwin Kernel Version 9.2.0: Sun Mar 2 00:11:08 SCT 2008; made by ToH:xnu-1228/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_i386

After this nothing happens. I have to reboot manually. I couldn't get past it.

I have an Intel Q9450/ASUS P5Q Deluxe/4GB OCZ PC2-8500/ATI Radeon X1950PRO system.

Any advice?

Check my iATKOS v2.0i install guide in my blog......it has helped others to install successfully.... You can follow a similar procedure with Kalyway 10.5.2 install DVD.....BUT also definitely read Mysticus C*'s brilliant nForce chipset install guide here as it covers just about every problem.... :)
