I use the first method - where the grub loads the boot_v5 but if I let it go it reboots.

I tried also v3, v4 they are reported invalid (huh)

I then tried to reboot using the old mach_kernel file that I saved prior to upgrade.

In that case I get

Error while loading AppleACPIPlatform

Couldn't alloc class AppleACPIPlatformExpert

Unable to find driver for this platform

ACPI

I wonder if the boot gets loaded. I have laptop with T2400(Dual Core) and before the error I shows the supported instructions but don't include SSE3. When I run cpuz i get SSE,SSE2,SSE3 and MMX

I will try the second option with the starttool!

If you have any ideas please let me know.

Briefly here what I did

grub4dos

copied the dsmos

installed update to 10.4.11

clean it up

restore persmission

reboot!

Do I miss anything ?

GREAT! NETKAS IS A LEGEND, We Thank you from the bottom of our hearts

-- Enough with the pleasant remarks - - how do i get this goiing on my machine?

mobo Intel D945g

Running Tiger Sweet , Still to no luck with Leopard :)

I'm not sure this is the right thread for you, since you don't need to use efi patch -as a matter of fact it won't work-, but I am using D945G and got my Leopard running using ToH RC2 DVD (remember running /usr/misc/script.sh to actually boot from your hd), patched my AppleHDA with Taruga and right codec dump, network running a little unstable (sometimes I need to reboot with -f) adding 0x27dc8086 to AppleIntel8255x kext. Though, I'm beginning to think there's no possible way I can patch original vanilla kernel for my board/processor. Besides from that and my keyboard not working after sleep, everything working ok.

Hey Dainix, what do you mean by 'original' ionetworking family kernel ext

the one that sits within brazilmac or another one?

The Post Patch you ran replaced the original IONetworkingFamily kernel extension with another one. Find that original extension and put it back in. If the script did its job, there should be a backup of it in the Extensions directory.

Hope that helps.

Alright  !

I did patch a running 10_4_6 with a original 10_4_9 kernel after doing the grub version of efi.

When I reboot with the orig kernel the system reboots! I don't see why...

What do I do ? Do I have to have an original 10_4_6 kernel ? If yes can you please point it out where I can get one ?

Thanks in advance!

Q

Read Netkas blog-FAQ there are issues regarding NX/XD.

To those experiencing reboots, look closer at this issue that macgirl cryptically pointed to :) that's a common issue for many mobos. Look and you'll find answers.

Ok, easier, just don't forget to activate the no execution functionality (NX/XD bit) in the bios. Vanilla kernel needs that on.

I agree! I turned mine on earlier today and no reboots. Moved to the next stage...Vanila kernel I got is a bit old 10.4.5 ( should be 10.4.6) and I experience"Couldn't find root user"The dvd version works fine. Good news is that I get in -s mode in vanila. However, it looks like I need to find a vanila 10.4.6 - don't hesitate to let me know where I can find one. I did try the 10.4.9 but throws a lot of errors! And I did clean the netinfo db file - the same problem, couldn't find the root user...I suspect is the kernel for now.So, again XD has to be on!!! And by the way, for those like me with a Toshiba Qosmio Laptop to enter BIOS press Esc at reboot time! ( For 1 year I thought I can't get to BIOS!)Q

BTW does indicates it's vanilla kernel and EFI is installed ? See log file.

efi.txt

I spent 8 hours on it last night tired ever scenario you can think of. Different Extensions ans kernels and none of it worked for me. My System immediately reboots.

I got real close with a mack_toh kernel released I think the 25th of Nov. I got no kernel panics nor did i get a reboot.

When I got the logwindow there was no Icons or menus. So this was the closest I got.

Tried efi_5.1 and boot_g7 the new 6.0 Efi's. I have the GT 7300 as you see in my signature.

Also you can see I have the Asus Maximux Formula Special Edition MB. I have to update my Signature I got rid of the P5K Deluxe.

I have a QX6850 eXtreme Quad Core , Linksys WIreless and NV 7300GT graphics card.

Could this Quad Core Extreme be the issue with the vanilla kernel? rebooting?

Leopard 10.5.0

Any help would be appreciated

I'm having the same problem as others. I have EFI set up perfectly via GRUB, can use vanilla kexts, etc.

However, I cannot use the vanilla Kernel on a 3.20GHz Pentium D (Presler family) or it reboots immediately.

I set the Execute Disable bit on, and every other settings combination, but I still get an immediate reboot with the vanilla kernel.

Any possibility of this ever working on a Pentium D?

Try booting it from the DVD. My Tablet PC pulled this stunt, and doing this helped it out.

Also, Bezz, replace the IONetworkingFamily kernel extension with the original. Worked fine for me.

Do you mean to boot using the cd every time I start the computer?

I have tried replacing AppleSMBIOS.kext, system.kext and AppleACPIplatform.kext with the ones from the uphuck cd, but doesnt fix the problem.

One thing to note is that if I select shutdown from the menu it works fine, computer turns off. Its only when restarting that it hangs.

I installed version 6 and booted normally, but how can I be 100% sure it worked? (so I can update it to 10.5.1 using Software Update)?

Did you put the vanilla kernel?

To those that have problems with the vanilla kernel, do you remember to add dsmos.kext? It's necessary.

That's why is interesting to have vanilla kernel and toh's at the same time. Cos both work with vanilla kernel, either the system boots with the vanilla, or you select the other kernel with the darwin bootloader so you can boot normally withouth having to use the DVD and a lot of time.

It's easy to see if it's the vanilla kernel or not working. The size of the vanilla is much bigger. If it works, just update, don't be scared :(

In any case if you fear the update, just keep a copy of the vanilla kernel around in the same boot, and then you'll be able to use darwin and select any of the kernels.

(Remember that, to boot with a specific kernel, you only have to put the name of the kernel in darwin bootloader, after pressing f8 at boot)

v7 requires a GUID partition, and I'm not keen on reinstalling again so close to the Leo release. I might give it a try over Christmas when I'm not so busy with school, but I can't afford to waste the time getting my system back up and running when there's coding to do.

Same happens to me, too many things to study these days

btw 7.1 is out

Execute Disable is already enabled (and always has been) in my system. That's not what's causing it.

You cannot use the vanilla kernel with any CPU that is not based on the Core architecture. Any Pentium 4 (Prescott/Northwood) or Pentium D (Smithfield/Presler) series will have to run a patched kernel. The new "Pentium Dual Core" series chips are Core 2 CPUs with the cache reduced, so they would work.
