Hirez
@ Hirezsee yr box BIOS and if you have any bios steping power CPU auto management turn it off. Some intel mobo need it off. if u d''lded uphuck from demonoid, put together yr original files in a folder start torrent point to folder with uphuck 1.3 force checking and re-donwload. this way only imcomplete or corrupted files will be d'led. demonoid is up again. as far as i now there are only two uphuck versions; one v1.2 and the latest v1.3. for sure if checksum does not match you have a corrupted dvd. Thanks i do as a matter of fact have Intel speedstep or something on!!! plus maybe the other APM play a role? For next time around i am gonna try: FORCING SATA to AHCI (not quite sure if this is not automatically with SATA dvd but ok) and i will download uphuck AGAIN.. cause the file i get is only 2 files and there isnt anything corrupt but will check. I was able to get past the problem with my AMD pc, it didnt stop at the darwing after CPU enabled line. but oh well, this leads me to think its bios setting. perhaps resetting to defualt will help.. ? I will report back in a while wish me luck Again thanks Carlos, I hope to one day also help ppl out once i get going hehe EDIT my godness no demonnoid account.. god god god.. will i ever be able to fully test this? PLease if someon can invite please please pm me.. much appreciated.! Matthew L.
Hi. Just 1 thing to all those who are having problems with this DVD, and even with a bad MD5 checksum! I've found a reply on a forum, and that's what it says: try to write the image out with ImgBurn, it helped me with some other images too. (BTW the .cdr format can be used with this). It's working for me now. P.S.: Sorry for my bad english. P.P.S.: Good Luck to others. P.P.P.S.: Sorry if this solution was already there... blade007
Thanks for the advise but Ill still need to get v1.4 which hardly no one seems to post this sort of thing to use net (which i think would be the quickest place for it to go) and all the other sources seem to take weeks to download a file that should take about an hour. Please let me know more if I am missing out on some secret download source. deesto
Thanks for this! I just tried an install and got a "please retry installation" messsage. Is there a log kept during install that I can check for errors? And what kernel and other options might work best with my system? I assume the IDE drive would give the best chance for success, but that's what I chose when I got the "retry" error. Is there a thread/page/site that explains what the kernels and options do, and which ones might be best for certain chipsets and CPUs? DualC
I get the classical "/com.apple.Boot.plist' " not found error, then i boot this dist also.. the second one i tried on my system.. Hirez
then the cheapest is to use a ide to sata converter. I dunno about if its possible to PATCH the uphuck dvd, as no one answered that. But first of is to get the it to read your dvd drive. numba1xclusive
One of the choices during install (under patches) is to install the LoginWindow.app from another version (10.4.6 or 10.4.3 I cannot remember). Boot off the DVD and choose JUST THAT. That should install the older LoginWindow.app and it MAY solve your problem (various people for various reasons have experienced that, luckily, I am not one of them).Good Luck!MourngrymA few people (myself included, I am posting on one) have these Toshiba Satellites and they all have similar chipsets and similar issues. I wrote a VERY lengthy installation experience/guide (link: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=55886&hl=) that can help you clear some things up. I am currently running 10.4.9 with sound, network, etc... BUT, I had to make some compromises (like getting USB for wired and wireless ethernet and USB headset for sound). There are some reasons that Toshiba stuff doesn't work, and I bet your kernel panic references a driver called AppleIntel8254XEthernet.kext... see my post for the way to get past that. Definitely start with Uphuck 10.4.9 version 1.3 as it is the definitive laptop version (speedstep support, ACPI fixed, fan problem fixed, a number of patches included, etc). If, after reading that post, you have any questions, hit me up. I spent a week of more than 25 hours and 37 installs to get this running (worth it now that it is) but if I can help or point you to the right place, lemme know!MourngrymMy Rig:Toshiba Satellite P105-S921|1.86Ghz Core Duo 2|2gb RAM|160gb SATA|USB Wireless|USB Wired Ethernet|Logitech USB Headset|DL DVD Burner|OSX 10.4.9|Doesn't work - Conexant HD Audio, Intel 3945 ABG Wireless, Intel Pro/1000 VL and Texas Instruments PCIxx12 PCMCIA (work arounds detailed above) Hey mourn, i did the replacing of the loginwindow.app from the DVD. Now when i boot up, it crashes at this error: "Cannot use ATS Persistent STore-switching to old FODB cache code" It apparently starts running something called ATSServer. Does anyone have any idea what that program is? Hirez
Totally agree blade. Like it would be so hard to get a usenet account once in a while and pump it down. not to mention you upload something ONCE and everyone can gain from it.. oh well, its things like this that makes me wonder about ppl using technology, and about md5 checksum, cant we use Par2 files with MAC? I think there is a MACPAR, this would eliminate comparing checksums.. feels a bit old to check each file this way. blade007
Unison, MacPAR and UnrarX seems to do a good job for my mate. Are just all torents the same (slow) or is this demonoid different and faster. I have got older versions of use net and took just over an hour to download. This bittorrent program has been 4 days all ready and still has days to go and might not even be the right thing when its finished. Think I will be uploading this when I get it as I have 256ssl tunnel to the servers. If demonoid is any quicker can someone spare an invite code. The Mobo you've got has two problems. 1-You can boot from a normal IDE-DVD Reader. Try to buy an IDE-SATA converter, get a external USB-DVDo r a properly SATA-DVD. 2-You must desconnect the RAID controller (JMicron). I'm not sure if this can do it in the BIOS. Just in case, check it. 3-Someone told few days before in the thread that he can install this distro through VMWare. placing it inside a real (phisical HD)and convert to a real boot afterwards. Check a Genius Bar tutorials to do this. Hope this info can help you. shakespeare2
OK, I am in a bit of a ... Pickle.. with this. The first time I installed it this DVD I got a Kernal Panic (using the SSE2[intel] Kernal).. So I reinstalled and choose to use the Universal Kernal 2. It installed and on restart it came up with the black box "restart your computer" similar to a kernel panic but without all the text in the backround. But anyway I rebooted and it started up and ran great. But with 2 flaws: No sound and when I clicked the "about my mac" option, the screen went blue and then went back to the desktop, as if it had just logged me in(everything I had open was closed). Anyway, I accidentally messed up the partition and decided to reinstall, I have done so now 4 times, and each time I get a kernel panic on boot, except once I only got the restart message (without the kernel panic text in the back), but it came up every time I restarted so I was stuck. I SWEAR I am using the exact same options I used the previous time it worked and ran, but I cannot get it to boot with a panic!! I am pretty sure this what I had selected the time it worked (but like I said, I seem to get kernal panic now): 10.4.9 intel Universal Kernel -2 Titan AGPGart v 2.1 iTunes Quicktime Quicktime Codecs iPhoto FrontRow VLC Can someone please tell me what options I should be using for my system: (except with a fx5200 256mb) http://support.packardbell.com/uk/item/?sn...0022&g=1400 Thanks!! Signal64
Is there a thread/page/site that explains what the kernels and options do, and which ones might be best for certain chipsets and CPUs?I asked something similar in post #499 and still looking.Yes there is a short description when you highlight an option, but looking for more info on pros/cons or "when to use" scenarios. Many of the success stories posts have just had "it works" with no info on what was chosen or much (if any) details on the hardware so that hasn't been much help yet. BTW - Is there a way to bypass the DVD media check on install? This part is taking up about 12min of the install and after the 15th install (and probably many more to go) wonder if there is a way to bypass it.
