I was under the impression it was a .pkg which installs the files automatically not giving me the ability to change the ID's. However I change the ID in the ATIRadeonx1000.kext file and in the binary using 0XED and am getting kernel panics now.

Yeah for 0x71C1 and Leopard 10.5.2 we will need to await chico_stang's description on how to do that. Because in general it would be easier for you as well to modify Modbin's package for 10.5.3 (just replace one instance of Device iD in info.plist from the ATiRadeonX1000.kext file).

So let's hope chico_stang will help you soon.

Alternatively I would suggest you install the 10.5.3 Combo Update and modify Modbin's 10.5.3 package yourself.

ATI Radeon x1650 pro 512mb, device id is 0x71c1 - how do i mod chico_stang's package to match c1?

If you have 10.5.3, you can download Modbin's new package and modify the file Info.plist in ATIRadeonX1000.kext to match your ID. Its already explained in this thread. If you have 10.5.2, you will need to use the modified kexts. To match your Device ID, you need to open every file in the package, and look for 0x71C7 and 0xC771 and replace those with your Device ID, in this case 0x71C1 and 0xC171 respectively. Note that not all files have IDs, but even so I would suggest to open each kext, and find the IDs in each of them, just to make sure.

OmegaOSX: R u sure u r using VGA to DVI adapter (known as VGA splitter)? And when u replace Dev ID, before replacing u need to copy ATIRadeonX1000.kext somewhere else, then edit copied kext, replace 0x71C61002 with 0x71C71002, then copy that kext in extensions Authenticate and replace, but u need to use VGA SPLITTER, because Mac OS X do not support x1650s DVI... That's what i did and it worked...

In my case I can not get into the mac edit, I'm using the windows to get TransMac program and replace the files vai have to use DVI is not vai work.

What I'm worried about is that you don't repair permissions?

Cause earlier you said that you tweak the files out of your Mac environment.

What this course to change these, 1, or 2 (ATIRadeonX1000.kext)?

You only need to change what is in bold here with your Device ID:

<string>

0x71871002 0x72101002 0x71DE1002 0x71461002 0x71421002 0x71091002 0x71C71002 0x71C01002 0x72401002 0x72491002 0x72911002

</ string>

Then save the file (authenticate and replace) and repair permissions.

So no need to change anything, because the original is already so, as you asked!

Sure!

Kozlowsky, BIG BIG BIG thx :)

What i did wrong... I edited directly my ATIRadeonX1000.kext, but i had to copy somewhere else, and edit info.plist, and then copy, authenticate, replace and repair permissions :) , and voila it worked for me... omG imma fool :P ...

So it seems you had success. I tried switching my monitors, which I thought was the problem, one is digital and the other only vga. I managed to boot with safe mode, and change resolutions. After trying to reboot into normal mode, I get white screen. Yes, I am using the dvi > vga splitter. I have to hard reset, and this seems to corrupt my files. I will try again, perhaps and maybe see if I can follow your path, Colask8. I've been editing my ATIRadeonX1000.kext directly as well. Maybe this will help.

Hey guys I have a x1650 512mb PCI-E card and I have installed a retail copy of Leo.

I have tried every way there is to try and get this card to work. It works great in a hackintosh version but I can't seem to get it to work on retail. The last step is efi strings. Now my self I have no idea how to do this. I am looking for a little help here.

Display:

Type: Display

Bus: PCIe

PCIe Lane Width: x16

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x71c1

Revision ID: 0x009e

Displays:

VGA Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768 @ 75 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Software

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

That is my graphics in system profiler. Thanks to anyone who can help!!! Again I have tried your method to no avail. The last one is efi strings. Please help me!!

OmegaOSX: flag is -x

incitatus: yes it works now fully, i even have QEGL working B)

Just an update, I tried your way of editing the Radeon kext. It worked perfectly! Everything is enabled. But like before, after rebooting, I get what can only be described as a kernel error. I was able to reproduce the results twice from a clean install. After I edited Kext repaired permissions and rebooted, I got the success. Then I changed screen resolution fine and verified QE/CI works. THE Problem occurs the boot after I'm able to get it working, which I then get a screen with alternating vertical white and black lines. This then corrupts my hard drive to where even after a reboot and fsck, illegal operations and zero byte transfers stall the boot indefinitely.

ATIinject does NOT work for me. It always gives me a white or black screen after reboot, so I NEVER install it, and it has NEVER worked during the two times I have gotten it to work.

so sad... B)

Second time you boot, does it tell you that some kext (obviously ATiRadeonX1000.kext) didn't load properly?

The second time I boot (after having adjusted resolution and seeing qe/ci enabled) it boots fine just up until the logonwindow.app shows that it's loading, then screen goes black, then white alternating black lines verticallly displayed, no response to keyboard. Upon rebooting after that, it does not boot prorperly unless I try to save the files by restoring backuped kexts, running fsck, and rebooting... Usually get zero-byte transfer messages that delay the boot indefinitely.

No messages about kexts loading improperly.

I'm using the Leopard version with Leo4All V4 without a single hitch. In fact, I have CI/QE (complete with hardware acceleration) working for the first time with Leopard *ever* (I've had it working with Tiger, but not Leopard). CI's working, QE's working, hardware acceleration is working, and the card is *AGP* (0x71c1, notoriously problematical); stranger yet, the system is SSE2.

Now there's just One Nit Left To Pick: the danged Ethernet issues.

UPDATE: After installing the OSX Toolkit Utility, I enabled the QuartzGL support (disabled by default, though QE/CI works). App performance (especially Safari, but noticeable in Firefox as well) has taken off in a major way (remember, SSE3 is only emulated; even more surprising, this is AGP-based graphics, not PCIe!). For the first time ever, I have all the acceleration options possible for SSE2 users turned on.

Display is 1600x1200 @ 75 Hz (NI) (19" Micron-branded Panny CRT).

If you want to remain on Tiger, I would suggest you install uphuck's 10.4.9 releases, and follow the guide on the first post for your Graphics card.

So an update.

I am now using iAtkos 10.5.2, still using ATI Radeon x1650 0x71c1 video card.

I installed the OS from scratch. Then I downloaded Modbin's 10.5.2 and then before reboot I overwrote with chico's fix. I altered all the files I could, including hex's from 71c7 to 71c1. Repaired disk permissions, reboot and kernel panic.

I reinstall the OS, skip Modbin's and install chico's 71c7 that I modded to 71c1. Repair, reboot. Kernel Panic.

I've read through the thread and the only solutiton I can think of is that I've missed changing a 71c7 to 71c1. I've looked but can't find any mistakes - anyone have any suggestions. Chico, could you possibly make a 71c1 package? It might be a lot to ask and if it is I apologize.

Thanks for any help.

So I installed the 71c1 as you instructed. Just to make sure, here is what I did.

Reinstalled 10.5.2 iAtkos from scratch. Just installed the basic OS w/ Darwin Bootloader. No extre kernels or anything. Booted up and extracted your files...then authorized and replaced in the System/Library/Extensions folder. Then I opened terminal and

sudo -s
chmod- R 755 /System/Library/Extensions
chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions
diskUtil repairPermissions /

Exited, rebootted. I got a kernel Panic again - something about ATY Wormy then it referred to ATIRadeonX1000.kext

I'm using a Dell Dimensions 4700 with 2.8gHz processor. 80g Sata hard drive, 2g DDR2 ram, ATI Radeon 1650 0x71c1.

The OS I am installing is iAtkos 10.5.2 kernel version 9.2.0.

If it matters I have Windows installed on a seperate partition. As I'm typing this I am thinking "oh wow it's probably windows on the hard drive!"

No, its not a problem with Windows. i do not know why it didn't work. Have you tried repairing the extensions with Extensions Repair instead of using the terminal? Its strange. It should work. I would suggest to update your system to 10.5.3 or .4 and using Modbin's new kexts.
