[pre-release] macOS High Sierra

This is a kind invitation to all X99 boarders to follow my recently released macOS High Sierra 10.13 Desktop Guide.

 

Once more many thanks to @PMheart and @Sherlocks for providing the necessary XCPM KernelToPatch entries.

 

This X99 macOS High Sierra 10.13 desktop guide is the logical continuation of my successful macOS Sierra 10.12 desktop guide and build. At the same time, it will be my last guide based on X99 Systems, with X299 and Skylake-X ante portas. Due to the early beta stage of macOS High Sierra 10.13 (PB2), this guide might still marginally grow with time all along upcoming public beta releases. However, it is really amazing that apart from lacking yet to be released Nvidida 10.13 Webdrivers, my X99 system already works like a charm and behaves absolutely flawless and stable, like in case of a final release without any remaining issues yet to be solved.

 

Already with macOS High Sierra 10.13 PB2, X99 systems can reach full functionality together with an amazing and flawless stability. Just take a test drive, follow my desktop guide and unfold the unbelievable X99 potential together with macOS High Sierra 10.13! It will neither affect nor harm your current macOS Sierra 10.12 Installation. In contrary, it will provide you already now with the unique knowledge of being prepared for MacOS High Sierra 10.13.1! AsAmiShim.efi might not be necessary (I'm not using it). However, you might need AptioInputFixB2.efi.

 

Well, it won't take a full day to encrypt. But yeah.....I wouldn't recommend this for the faint of heart. :)) It takes a LOOOOOOOOONG time. Even on SSDs it take a long time. On HDD...you can kill yourself twice in this time.

It boots successfully! Yeah! :D

What could I use to fix these graphical glitches? Thanks in advance

Maybe need to add some keys in FakeSMC info.

 

Or have to disable log on apfs driver.

To eliminate messages on the screen you have to boot not verbose

There must be a USB external keyboard for that. IMHO the lack of PS/2 device support is a great frustrate to me...

 

To be honest, I don't know many people still using PS/2 peripherals. Also, I think there are adapters out there, from PS/2 to USB... I could be wrong though. Never tried one, but it could work...

Most laptops are still using PS/2 for embedded keyboards I guess...

With AptioInputFix my laptops PS/2 keyboard is working on the laptop with FileVault2... there is no lack of PS/2 support

  • Most of PS/2 keyboard users will not be able to enter the passwords

    No general solutions (aside AptioInputFix).

It works just because it is not ps/2 keyboard, it is keyboard which attached straight into embedded controller which route it to virtual ps/2 controller.

AMI uses own specific protocol's for simple text input on laptop, which vit9696 translates into Apple ones

FWIW, I think I figured out the cause of the AppleACPIPlatform panics with a friend (s/o shawnanastasio). The panic occurs in _isprint, which is supposed to determine if a character is printable or not. It looks up the char value (uses it as an index) in a lookup table. In AcpiTbPrintTableHeader (which calls _isprint), the chars in the AcpiTblHdr->Signature, AcpiTblHdr->OemId, AcpiTblHdr->OemTableId, and AcpiTblHdr->AslCompilerId are checked for unprintable chars (using _isprint) [those invalid chars are replaced with a question mark]. However... it looks like Apple forgot to cast the char as unsigned, causing char values over 0x7F to become a negative integer (acpica casts it to an unsigned char, preventing the index from becoming negative). So if the Signature, OemId, OemTableId, or AslCompilerId in the ACPI table header have chars that are greater than 0x7F, they'll cause _isprint to use a negative index (causing the panic). The MATS ACPI table has a 0x98 as a char val in the AslCompilerId, causing the panic when it's not dropped. I have some more info here.

Great find. I will implement the patch by cecekpawon for this case.

Sorry, my bad. I was referring to the desktop/old motherboards PS/2 ports. :) But now, thanks to you and savvamitrofanov's explanation, I know a little bit more about laptops, too. So...thank you for that. :)

Public Beta 2 is out.

Some general observations:

 

R9 Nano / Fury x4500HWServices has gone. Don't know what they're doing there... I'm using the 7970 / R9 390x combo at the moment. I'll test the other computer tomorrow.

The 7970 is still working as a helper, but no signal out of the DVI port (beta 1 was ok for signal). Haven't tested the other ports yet.

Upgrade turned my user into standard so I had to make a new install. core pkg method worked fine.

My hackintosh was just updated from DP2(17A291m) to DP3(17A306f) via Mac app store, but got a black screen. (DP1 and DP2 works well  on APFS Volumes. The previous OSX 10.8.x ~ 10.12.5 works well also). 

 

It seem the hackintosh has been boot successfully and login desktop, but output a "Black screen" to monitor ( HDMI / DVI , both). 

 

Boot with verbose mode (-v and a lot of logs shown on screen), then got a Apple logo with going progress bar , finally a black screen show up. It seem like everything works but got a black screen result.

 

I can remote login with VNC and see the normal desktop in VNC remote control ( so I can see the Version number 17A306f in "About this mac")

 

I've test with R9-280X or GTX-780. Both VGA card has the same "black screen" result.  

 

Any idea?

I've try to reinstall 10.13 Public Beta 17A306f ( install 10.10.5 first and update 10 10.13 PB directly ) and GTX 780 return to work. R9-280X still got black screen.
