blackosx Posted March 18, 2011 Share Posted March 18, 2011 The ripple effect can only be seen when using the dashboard overlaid on the desktop like in previous versions of OSX. If you have the dashboard in it's own separate space with the dark grey background then you won't see a ripple effect. The diffs in the valv branch of chameleon are substantial, so it's not easy for me to fold sandy bridge support back into netkas's code. So, i had success to bypass, (think it is a Timing-Related Problem), using the Chameleon RC5 with the Bootfiles, provided on www. root86.org, set Time-Out to 3, GUI=No and the right Default Partition=hd(x,x), after see the Text just press about 1/2 Second the Return-Key, not the Enter from Numberspad. If this is not working i have tied with Success to press and hold the Retuern-key just the Text "Loading Operation System" appears on the Screen. After the first couple of days its settled down to bypas the DF on the first or second attempt, using -v -usecache. Also audio w/all ports working, restart, sleep and shutdown work and all usb ports. Anything I missed? All running great just like Snow Leopard. I am using DSDT.aml with only Fakesmc.kext in the extra folder!!!! To make it work you first run cmd as administrator You cd to the path of the Sysprobs Lion Files Next you cd into macosx_guest_vmware_7 And then cd into macosx_guest_vmware-7 Run windows.bat to patch VMWare. Next copy the Lion_107 folder to your Virtual Machines. Start VMWare Drag Mac OS X Server 10.6 64-bit.vmx into the list with Virtual Machines. Edit it and add your customly made OS X Lion install partition as a virtual drive (or a physical one, like a USB stick). Boot up the Virtual Machine and you will be able to install Mac OS X Lion under VMWare. Needed files (except Lion install image) attached below... darwin.iso contains the VMWare tools (for proper support after install...) NOTE: For the install image make sure you copy the Kernel Cache to the destination. e.g. cp "/Volumes/Mac OS X Install ESD/kernelcache" /Volumes/LionInstaller/kernelcache Also edit com.apple.Boot.plist and make sure the following key is present: <key>Kernel Cache</key> <string>\kernelcache</string> You also need to fake it as Mac OS X Server like this: cd /Volumes/LionInstaller/System/Library/CoreServices sudo touch ServerVersion.plist That's about all of the VMWare specific tips, for making install partition, look up some guides... Andy Vandijck Posted March 20, 2011 Share Posted March 20, 2011 I made a custom kernelcache with CPU check removed. It should work for most modern Intel CPU's. It's very handy that they use Mach-O FAT binaries, compressed with lzss, after ditto -arch <arch_you_want> kernelcache kernelcache.<arch>.lzss you can use prelink_tool -d kernelcache kernelcache.<arch>.lzss kernelcache.<arch> You can then bin hack the kernel and binaries inside and afterwards use prelink_tool -e kernelcache.<arch> kernelcache_patched.<arch> After you've done this for all binaries you can copy the Mach-O FAT header, put the other compressed files in the correct order and modify the offsets and sizes. The offsets should be where lzss starts... I also attached the prelink_tool I use. If you hacked it correctly and use file on it within Terminal it should give something like this: /Users/andyvand/Desktop/kernelcache: Mach-O universal binary with 2 architectures /Users/andyvand/Desktop/kernelcache (for architecture i386): data /Users/andyvand/Desktop/kernelcache (for architecture x86_64): data This can also be used to determine the architecture order of the original kernelcache. I also used SVN version of OTX to disassemble the prelink uncompressed binaries (attached below, can also disassemble and parse x86_64) It still needs some work to make it work for Atom (at least on my N280 it still panicked with kexts not loaded) but I need test reports on this... It could be the boot loader I use (or some setting) that causes this...
