Hi, i have instaled as stated here and i do get graphics but only if i use the external vga connection of my laptop and only there, cant get the built.in tft to function...

 

Anyone had this problem? and is so how did you solve it?

 

Specs: Asus A6JA, ATI X1600 (M56 256/512 HM)

The first step ypu say to replace, I do not have that string, this is what my computer spits out..

I'm using this but I get denied permisission on the ./deinstallscript

 

I assume I need to do a Su or Sudo -s but that doesn't work either.

 

 

You need to change the file permissions of ./deinstallscript

it has been a few weeks since messing around but... go to the directory where deinstallscript is located. Change the permissions to read/write/execute by:

 

chmod 777 deinstallscript

 

then run ./deinstallscript

I am seeing a very similar issue with the Sapphire X1800XT I just picked up. I see a red screen and it just sits there. I've tried both the installer as well as manually editing the kext's. My Device ID is 7100 is that helps. Has anyone got the Boris method to work with the X1800XT?

What about the v1.5 drivers from the Leopard Beta? I wonder if they would work or could be made to work? The problem seems to be the X1800XT has dual DVI and DVI is the problem, other boards with VGA ports or VGA+DVI work on the VGA port and again give probs with the DVI port. Something simple in the driver must be messing it up, perhaps something to do with display refresh rate which is generally fixed at 60 on DVI/LCD displays. I just bought an X1800XT (Sapphire) and would love to get it to work. My old X1600XT worked fine...

I just got a x1600 pro today, followed the guide, and the issue in the link still exists (should be .plugin). But it works perfectly. WoW runs flawlessly with everything cranked up video-wise. It really makes the 'OS X experience' complete.

 

I didn't try neopheus' installer though.

 

EDIT: 3 ghz prescott p4 (800mhz fsb), 1 gig 533mhz (pc4200), 915 chipset, and the '0x71c2' msi x1600 pro.

But sadly, in the end, there was no joy. Just me and my little cursor, hanging out on the black screen of nothingness.

 

Just thought I'd point some people to the update that got me rolling (generally only applies to people with the X1600XT, but could apply to people who have a card that other people are getting to work but their particular make/model is being stubborn).

Hmm, I think this should change to "For use with DVI or VGA" ;)

 

 

I have the same card and couldnt get the system to remain stable for any sustained period of time with Neos installer. Boris' method made my xbench scores go up, but no QE or Q2d which is odd. DVI worked with both cards though.

 

Hm, you guys seem to have opposing experiences with the Gecube X1600 Pro 256MB AGP card. Are Bryan's experiences an anomoly? I'm considering this card for full graphics support (no tearing, QE/CI, full resolutions) with DVI. Any info one way or the other about this card would be helpful. Thanks!

my install of macOSX 10.4.5 worked fine except the screen resolution.... wich was only 1024x768 when i need 1280x768

so i tried to install NeoPheus patch (http://www.installers.dl.am/)

 

i boot properly on macosx and when the apple on grey background disappear (end of boot), i get a full black screen!! what to do to deapply NeoPheus patch??? no more image on the screen!!

 

i'm flippin out!!!

do i have to start my Mac OSX install from scratch because i applied NeoPheus patch???

i downloaded the installer

 

but it refuses to install, it says that i have to retry but i wont

 

i have a asrock 915 gl with jas 10.4.7

Just upgraded my video card to a GeCube ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB AGP. Installed the BorisBadenov method using NeoPheus' installer on my JaS 10.4.7 system. Everything's working flawlessly: Quartz 3D, CoreImage, Quartz 2D Extreme, OpenGL, and no mouse tearing. Best of all DVI-out functions using the the 2nd DVI-out. The only issue is that there's no AGP support since I'm running a P4, but people are working on Intel support in the AGPGart thread. Thanks guys! :D

Just boot in single user mode (-s at the bootloader) and then type:

/sbin/fsck -fy
/sbin/mount -uw /
./deinstallscript

 

if this does NOT work:

sudo -s
./deinstallscript

Is there a "Backup" folder in your root? If not, please look at the installerlog... Window->Installation protocol

and post the error here.

I sent you a PM but just thought I would ask it here in the thread too. What resolution are you running through DVI (I have a 23" Cinema and my ASUS EAX1600XT is not working with it)? Also what do you mean no AGP support? Are you having any stablility problems. Thanks for all of your help!

i cant get it to work and it makes me crazy, one week that i struggle...

No more prob to install the OS but i cant master boris' method....

 

i have no problem up to:

The line immediately after the one containing IOPCIMatch should contain your newly-created string. For example:

there, my original line consist of 3 sequences of numbers of the type: "0x71c21002"

one of them is actually my vendor ID + Device ID: (0x71C51002) the middle sequence...

 

My question is:

do i have to replace the 3 sequences by: 0x71C51002 ????

 

thats what i did on the various installs that always failed....

 

then i change properly the 2 long lines:

<key>100271c2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key>

by:

<key>100271c5-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</key>

 

then:

<string>100271c2-0000-0000-0000-000a27898d3e</string>

by:

is that ok??

i do need the proper resolution to view my pictures and movies....

As I replied to your PM, I'm running my Dell 2005FPW at 1650x1080. (It's native resolution.) No AGP cards have AGP support on Intel-based systems, as far as I know. I think people who have AMD-based systems are able to get the full AGP bandwidth using the AGPGart driver. There are no stability problems at all. Good luck!

the deinstallscript doesn't work properly. In single user mode I get a permissions problem... And single user is root, so have all rights !

I have to type all lines from the script by myself.

does anybody know if somebody succeded in using boris' method on a laptop with ATI X1600

getting the graphics on the laptop monitor ???

 

mine is ASUS A6JA

 

its few times i try with no success, maybe i do smtg wrong (see previous post)....

 

By the way ,

does anybody knows how i could get a 1280x800 resolution, by any other method????

 

1024x768 is stupid for my 15'4 screen on the laptop, i get all movies & pictures distorted, as the rest though....

I tried manually and with the script, bit I didn't get my ATI X1600 PCI E to work on my HP laptop.

The funny thing about that is that the MacBookPro has the same card (with DVI second output and mine is with VGA, but that is not the problem).

 

Here is what I want to try next...

 

 

Video cards:

Problem: Low screen resolution, screen resolution not changable

Fix A: To change resolution edit com.apple.boot.plist

In OSX go to Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/

Copy the file "com.apple.Boot.plist" to desktop

Open "com.apple.boot.plist" in Text Editor.

Add this in:

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>"1280x1024x32@60"</string>

you can change the resolution to your liking. "x32" means 32 bit color, "@60" is the refresh rate.

save the file, save it as a .plist not .txt!

copy and replace the original.

Fix B: A better fix would be install 3rd party drivers, but not all cards are supported. See the 3rd party drivers page. (link above.)

Fix C: If you have a ATi x1600/x1800 series card, use NeoPheus' installer for the Borisbadenovs method.Website Here

i did as you say in Fix A...

good try but did not work, at reboot, still 1024x768

i checked "com.apple.boot.plist" after the reboot, it's indeed the one i just modified...

 

 

i tried both boris' method manually & with neophus installer, it doesnt work on my machine

install 3rd party drivers, never could find the link, post it again please!!

AAAAAAARGH

 

Any other hint or idea??
