BTW -- I've been meaning to update...

I sent back my Gigabyte and bought a Visiontek X1600XT 512 Meg with the dual DVI ports.

It works flawlessly (and I literally mean that) with 3.2 patch. I also just upgraded to 10.4.8 and no problems whatsover.

All resolutions work out of DVI -- ZERO graphics problems whatsoever.

I am running all of iLife and have been doing some hard core video and photography editing the last week, or so, and it is GREAT!

The card is way overpriced, but for an extra $100 more than the other cards people mention here, my thoughts are that it is well worth it -- no problems, DVI, etc....I have no problem paying $100 more for a card to get this.

MDG.

I've been using an Nvidia AGP card up to now. Have a Sapphire X1600 Pro arriving today. Should i install 10.4.6 then run X1600 installer then update to 10.4.8 or update to 10.4.8 before running the X1600 installer? Does it make any difference?

Just wanted to post my results using Sapphire ATI Radeon x1600XT PCI-Express (Crossfire capable). The BorisBad installer did not work at all on 10.4.6 or 10.4.7 JAS for me, resulting in blue and white garbage screen with movable cursor with gargage on it. However, manually going through the steps in the first post in this thread did work and i could run my viewsonic 20" widescreen at native res 1680x1050 through the VGA port with CI and QE enabled. The ripple shows up in dashboard. Some very minor tearing if you scroll safari too fast though. DVI does not work digitally, but does through VGA adapter but 1680x1050 is not available in the Displays control panel.

I would go the second way!

Will 1080p (1900x1080) work in OS X with X1600 cards?

I have ordered a Hightech Radeon X1600XT IceQ DL-DVI DVI 256MB after reading that it will work with both DVIs, but not at the same time. I really hope that it will work with 1080p since I'm going to use my PC as a HTPC.

I used the manual version of the hack and it worked for Sapphire X1600XT on 10.4.6 and 10.4.7 but after updating to 10.4.8 and replacing the hacked drivers, I've lost quartz extreme and core image. I rechecked the Mfr and device id's and they are intact.

Did anybody else lost QE/CI through the 10.4.8 update?

I found this in the console log:

Oct 21 02:15:30 localhost kernel[0]: display: vram [d0000000:10000000]

Oct 21 02:15:31 localhost kernel[0]: display: Not usable

any clues where to look for the problem?

Would this work on an ATI Mobility Radeon 9700? That is my card on my Inspiron 9200. If not, would anyone know of any other that would work? Also, I need some help with changing resolution. Mine is 1440 X 900 and I tried to tweak my OSx86 by changing the resolution and I never was able to boot into OSx86; I had to reinstall the entire OS!

Thanks in advance..

. DVI does not work digitally, but does through VGA adapter

VGA from adapter on DVI port does not constitute working DIV, i.e. the DVI-I plug has a passthrough for the VGA signal but that has very little to do with a working TMDS. It would appear that our no DVI problems are from OS failing to interface with the card bios and initialise the built in TMDS on the GPU. Cards that use external sil TMDS chips have it initialised and hence DVI is enabled. Same way you can have DVI on an i950 chipset with an add2 card; it's just a sil TMDS on a card for the onboard to go through.

Hi Guy's

I just bought my Sapphire ATI Radeon x1600 Pro (512) but i can't get it working (with the installer).

It works fine on VGA, but my DVI doesn't output a signal. Right after the boot logo, it just goes down.

Has anyone experienced this before?

I haven't made a backup of the Info.plist files, can these be generated or copied from another machine?

thnx

Bronhi

The installer provides an "uninstaller". Read the info displayed by the installer before it does the installation, but DON'T install again - just quit the installer after you read the info.

I have reinstalled my System completly.

With the borisbadenov_3.2 installer everything works fine but in VGA!

When i connect it to DVI, the monitor goes to sleep (no signal)

It' sucks because i have a nother machine only capable to output VGA and one monitor (VGA and DVI input).

Now i have to switch the cable all the time...

This is my output:

---------------------------------------------------------

Radeon X1600 Series:

Chipset Model: Radeon X1600 Series

Type: VGA-Compatible Controller

Bus: PCI

VRAM (Total): 256 MB

Vendor: ATI (0x1002)

Device ID: 0x71c2

Revision ID: 0x0000

Displays:

Eizo L568:

Resolution: 1280 x 1024 @ 75 Hz

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Supported

Rotation: Supported

---------------------------------------------------------

The only difference is that my card is AGP (not PCI-e) and it has 512MB

Thanx, Bronhi

I have a MSI X1600XT pci-e (excatly: RX1600 XT-T2D256EZ) and a smiliar problem like hiroo: the blue screen with white garbage... windows-like :/ I get this error always after copying the modified ATINDRV.kext. Some people with XT's are flashing their cards bios which another ones... seems me a bit dangerous.

Anyone an idea for this?

I have a Sappire x1600 and if I move a window, the text gets garbled inside the window.

I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I had 10.4.7 installed with 3.2 and then updated to 10.4.8 with the new kernel and overwrote with 3.4.

When I get a chance, I'll try to do a 10.4.7 install without version 3.2.

Erm... sorry about disturbing the 10.4.8 kernal users... but what about the others? Will we 10.4.7 users still be supported yet? Especcially AMD users will have the problem.

Is there an global X1600XT/X1650 driver for the old kernel anywhere? Others have the same prob in forum channel. Dont wanna sell my XT to get an normal X1600.
