esmith1977
I was thinking of getting the MSI Radeon X1600 Pro 256MB PCI-E Video Card RX1600PRO-TD256E board. The one initially used in this patch. I use only DVI monitors. AND I need Display Rotate. Will I be OK with this patch?

cyclonefr
for u guys having a 9XXX u should try renaming ur kext and file into the kext to X1000 and see if ATINDRV works with it ie : drag and drop ATIRadeon9700GA.plugin's contents (only the exec file not the plist!! and rename it to match ATIRadeonX1000) into ATIRadeonX1000GA.plugin and same thing for ATIRadeon9700.kext and contains, cause ive seen ATINDRV seek for ATIRadeonX1000 u see what i mean? Krazubu
Cyclonefr, I tried to make boris' trick on my 9700 kext (wich is known to be OK for my X300) and I got a black screen with some white vertical lines. I doubt the x1000 kext is compatible with 9XXX (and some Xxxx) but it worths a try

xVariable
To answer you question, yes. I have noticed that my GUI is much fatser, more responsive. Also, with games like Civilization 3, Call of Duty, Rise of Nations, I can play full screen, full resolution om all games and not a glitch at all. I had a friend play CoD last night, did not let him know it was on my OSX86 til we finished the game, he was amazed. Always with my GMA900, it was a bit sluggish and never when settings were pushed to the max. The only downside so far is a longer boot time; it is now as long as XP, gasp!!! Hey Boris, so how's Natasha? Have you compared the performance in XP and OS X of, say, CoD? I know that, with my card, everything is working in OS X, but not nearly as fast as in XP. For example, I'm able to run UT 2004 at 1920x1080 with all detail settings maxed in XP, but barely get a slideshow in OS X (interestingly, but not surprisingly, it doesn't matter what detail settings are used in OS X - the game is equally slow regardless ). Regarding the boot speed: I bet it's the video driver and not the hacks, or even trying to get this all to work on an unsupported platform. If you recall how long it takes one of the new iMacs to load, it's pretty much in line with what you are experiencing. I've always wondered why they take so long, seeing as how my system boots in, like, 11 seconds.
Ezhoon
I just had to try this method out myself with my 30" LCD. I was hoping to get the full qe/ci support with 2560x1600 resolution, but No go for my x1600pro(PCI-E 256MB GDDR3), just a black screen via dvi connection. I clean installed Myzar's 10.4.5, did exactly what boris suggested. So, I took out the card and plugged it into another system(AMD Nforce4 ultra chipset) Using 10.4.5 kexts, applied the boris method and the same dreaded black screen. Down to my last option, I tried d-sub cable(NEC 20" lcd monitor has both dvi and d-sub inputs) and..there it is..a beautiful finder at 1600x1200x32 resolution without any mouse tearing what so ever :censored2: It's not a pure digital stream but, it's surprisingly sharp enough to read a small font. I am very grateful for all this (BIG thanks to Boris, of course ), but at the same time I just can't help but wondering what would cause dvi output non-functioning for some and perfectly functioning for others

cyclonefr
well well well, i guess we can close this topic cause i dont see what we can add to this driver until real IMAC dont have dual display...and everything is working fine so... btw anyone experienced (in my case 1 time every 10hours) a little video bug when scrolling pages such as 2 lines that get mixed together and it's fixed just by scrolling up and down...i guess it's the flash plugin that is not perfect.
