Wig72 Posted May 26, 2006 Share Posted May 26, 2006 Updated all files from the 10.4.6 Combo Update to my extensions folder (ATI, IOPCI, IO2..kext files). Modified them by Boris Method. Result : Booting with graphical artifacts. I've replaced the ATINDRV.kext with the 10.4.4 version. aberracus Posted May 27, 2006 Share Posted May 27, 2006 Cyclonefr, you dont have a DVI lcd dont you? the diffrence is absolute when you run an lcd screen by vga vs dvi. my OSX install is JAS 10.4.6 no upgrades, fresh install, my test platform is 10.4.6 jas too, and have exactly the same results. As long as I don't try to get CI/QE or any hardware opengl-support as it seem like there's simply no support for any other hardware acceleration than that on X1600-series of cards which makes perfect sence. I can change videomodes native and get basic cloning if I connect two monitors through VGA (with adapters). Black Knight Posted May 27, 2006 Share Posted May 27, 2006 Hey guys, I've been following this topic since about page 2 and just the other day decided to finally upgrade my X850 XT to an x1800 XL because of this topic. Since my device ID was already in X1000.kext, I didn't have to add it, but I did do the other things listed in the instructions and now I have my card recognized, QE, Q2DE, CI, and OpenGL supported, but no res change and tearing. My guess is that ATINDRV.kext is not loading (since it doesn't show up under ioreg nor system profiler). My question is what might be causing this. My install is a Myzar 10.4.4/10.4.5 patched DVD. I did have Callisto 006 installed, but I have since removed anything related to it so as to try to start from scratch. Thanks in advance. Sorry, my fault. I was to tired and had missed to update my sign. I'm ofcourse using Myzar 10.4.5 since opengl framework is broken in Jas 10.4.6 and no, it makes absolutely no difference.... major kernelcrash if I even get one centimeter from loading anything more than the ATINDRV framebuffer-driver. Im sure the difference between lcd thru dvi or vga cable is offtopic, but cyclonefr maybe your other monitor conects thru dvi but using analog signal, upgrade to abetter monitor or something , theres really a big difference. in sharpness and iamge stability, but who knows i am a 3D designer so maybe the differences ares only for the trainned eye, All things being equal I would always choose DVI over VGA. It removes the unnecessary digital to analogue to digital conversion. LCD monitors do not have a refresh rate as such (they don't scan top to bottom like a CRT). What you will get with DVI is pixel perfect precision without any adjustment and it won't drift over time (as I have seen happen on some VGA connections). AS you can see from this link, there are people which cant note any difference and others including myself wich notes it at first sight. The last week i installed a system for a Stock trader with 5 monitors, LCD all of them but only 2 of them running in DVI, he is 65 years old an noted the difference instantly without me saying anything (the lcds where a mix of Sonys and Benqs, all 19"). aberracus Posted May 27, 2006 Share Posted May 27, 2006 PITR, i got openGL (not in vesa) with jas 10.4.6 DVD, i just seconds ago run quake 3, without any problem or artifact 90 FPS running azereus and a bunch of other things, isnt bad. Black Knight Posted May 27, 2006 Share Posted May 27, 2006 So I went ahead and installed 10.4.6 using Myzar's V3 update and now my card is detected, but not as 0x71091002 like it should, but rather 0x5a341002. I don't know where it is getting this dev ID from, but if I remove ATINDRV.kext and boot in safe mode, it detects it as 7109. As soon as I add ATINDRV.kext, it changes the dev ID. I checked IOPCIFamily.kext and as far as I can tell, it wasn't updated to 10.4.6, though I do have the autologin problem. By the way, I also do not have QE, CI, GL anymore.
