Hi there! Awsome!!!! I just installed 10.4.5 on my Dell Inspiron 710m (same as 700m)!!!

I'm very happy, but:

-I only get 16mb (vesa 3) of video ram in 1024*768 resolution, no QE. Intel 852/855 problem, I *think* there's no solution.

-No sound though apparently there is a way to get the Dell sound working.

-No wireless, though apparently there is a way to get the Dell wireless working.

Any ideas?

thanks!!!

I'm trying to install on my 700m. :dev:

Anyway, installation went good, but when I try to boot OSX in Acronis OS Selector, it just loads Windows XP. I've read through the guide a few times, but I'm still confused as to why this is happening. Any ideas?

Edit: I changed my OSX partition to Active in Acronis, OSX starts to load, but then I get the apple logo with a buster symbol where the leaf should be. This has happened to me quite a lot. :poster_oops: Any ideas?

Edit 2: I don't even know how to do the -v command, I've tried hitting every button possible, but it just keeps saying "Loading Darwinx86, then goes to the apple logo screen where it fails.

Updating OSX:

You can't install every update that's available. You can install small updates via Software Update automatically, such as updates to safari, itune, etc. But you can't install system-wide updates like "Security Update 2006-003 Mac OS X 10.4.6 Client (Intel)". You need to either download a patched one released by somebody or a workaround to manually install it (download update from apple's site).

Do you know of any patched versions? if so where are its for say Security Update 2006-003 Mac OS X 10.4.6 Client (Intel)? like that hotiso 10.4.6 version you post on this HowTo?

a link or clue would be nice if theirs a patched update even exists...

also I am not sure but I don't think it detects my sound blaster Live card.. maybe I need drivers for it, and that nvidia card I have, I found the nvidia driver for pc mac but not sound card drivers yet.. not sure if patched or unpatched sound blaster drivers are needed.. creative brand card etc..

works great on my ASUS LG5X laptop

-> 3,4ghz HT CPU, Ati Radeon Mobility 9700, AC97 sound, Maxvell Gigabit ethernet 1000mbps, 1go ram, 80 go hdd.

i used the "goatsecx" patched iso file.

Thanks for the tutorial dude !

@Billy Talent: i believe the -v commends ard entered when you see darwin on boot. you will have a list of OS and below it there's a line says "Boot:" that's where you enter the commands

hey guys..

cant figure out how to make any of my keyboards working (i am stuck at the installer for mac os, where i can choose the language). tryed to connect my Logitech G15, Logitech Ultra-X and Logitech Office Pro Keyboard.

tryed usb and with a konverter to ps/2...

anybody an idea how to make it working?

I am new to all of this, and was wondering if I haven't partioned the drive and just put the DVD in and booted it wouldn't work right?

it goes through something and then i get a message saying to please reboot, but from what I can see it only looks at the kernel or something, no install.

All I have right now is a Mac OS X86 10.4.6 install DVD, and my processor is a AMD 3700? something like that. Well if anyone could help me I would appreciate it

I've got this working with the HOTiSO Image and the Chain0 entry in the XP bootloader. It's fast as hell too ;)

Specs:

Pentium D 820

Giga-Byte GA-8i945GMF

1 GB (2x512mb) DDR 533 (Kingston)

On Board Sound & Video

Intel Pro 100 S Desktop Adapter

Maxtor 120gb HDD (MacOS)

Seagate 160GB Sata2 HDD (XP)

LG DVD/RW

The only issue I've run into is that it fails to reboot. It'll shut down ok, but if i select reboot, it goes to a blue screen with that rotating thingy at the bottom center...Any ideas?

Make sure you are using either PS2 or USB for both KB and Mouse. you can't have a usb kb and a ps2 mouse or vice versa. I'm using all PS2 and it works great. Converters don't work half the time...:D

just to let you know I sm using the Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO image on dvd

-Added --

Also most forgot my wireless card worked perfect or at least it seemed too with the wireless patch on this dvd disk, any way my card is a Linksys Wireless-G PCI Adapter with SpeedBooster

that device or the router we setup too use a key password with our network and that works in the mac too

know if I could just get it to install right again.. I will it just going to take some time...I got it too work the first time. so it should be able to boot up again, I am not sure why the boot loader for it failed with a error message the second time, installing it.

My Pc Specs are --

Sound card I use most of the time is the creative SB Live (WDM)

also it has Creative SB Live gameport

then my capture card is maded my iomagic

I think they only made one capture card, since their website only shows by current capture card

my 3D card is a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT

I got this image to run once on my computer following the info provived I did not have any problems first with it , but after trying to do that update that I should of not done , it caused the os to stop working right, I remove the partion drive and recreated it but after that I try the steps again , I got it convert but it failed to boot up this time, also the first time I got it running , when select the mac os in the boot manager it started booting up windows xp , instead of the mac, I had to go into its settings and select hide the windows xp partion part of the same drive. I got too drives and was thinking about just keep windows on one and the mac on the other drive would that work? with the steps in this thing and why do you need to convert the partion from one setting to the other one , why can't you just start with the bootable type of drive setting?

I took out some info from this programs text option, also if I provided too much info go ahead and edit out the info you think is not needed here , for the CPU-Z info

--- no I was able to reboot just fine with that hotiso image, on my computer, maybe its just your system, or something else my default reboot and shutdown worked fine, but the install was slow to start up on the dvd on my computer

------------------------------------------------

also my dvd drives are the following

Generic DVD RW 12XMAX -- burns both dvd and cd-roms in windows

PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-105 -- this one fails to burn dvd right, that why I got the other dvd drive for , only use this one for reading

- my HD are the following type

Maxtor 93073U6 - 30GB drive

ST380020A - 76 GB drive

and got one 80GB about external drive too , use it for most of the time subtext anime to store on it, etc.. its like a backup drive I use in windows

obtain SecUpd2006-003Intel.dmg, and Pacifist 2.0, from Charlessoft.com

that file does not or is not located on that site

I look at the page of Charlessoft.com and could not find it their , was I missing something or is that info outdated on this site , is their any other sites you can think of where you can get the SecUpd2006-003Intel.dmg image ,

I also heard or not sure if that iso has a patched version of this, in it and maybe the update thing does not detect it etc.. because its patched or is that info wrong.?

http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=17580

also on starting up the mac os x , no startup menu was show , and I never had text running either on the startup like the info page says, it just started the mac progress bar , and loaded it

, but that may be because you are using a older version than 10.4.6 , I am not sure.. I just notice that on my pc , I never got the darwin startup menu , nor did it display text on booting it, it did a darwin startup progress bar and then loaded a screen witch showed a loading mac progress bar for the os , then the os just started.. when it was working..

anyway just seemed like it never showed a

Press any key to load startup options.. (1) (From image text on your site)

I don't even remember seeing this with the darwin loader , maybe it just went by it too fast I am not sure..

Hi I followed your guide using HOTISO 10.4.6 and it worked great,

Sound, video and internet are working, so far I've downloaded / installed ADIUM, but its working like a charm

Specs:

Shuttle SNG85V3

Sempron 3000+ 64bit

HD setup:

20 gig - Windows NTFS boot

100 gig - windows ntfs

Drive 2 ATA133 slave, 250 gig

210 gig Windows NTFS

40 gig HFS Mac partition

Drive 3

Sata 2, external 300 gig

It did recognize my onboard sound without a problem

Had to put in an SIS ethernet adapter as onboard was working but not able to be used

Video card Radeon 9550 (flashed to a 9600) 256 meg, video seems locked @ 1024x768x32 will work on that next

Fantastic guide, very very helpful

cheers, One

I'm wondering how can I dual boot from VMware because I don't have a DVD drive/burner. I have the JAS 10.4.6 iso, and i mounted it with daemon tools. In Vmware I set the Cd drive the the daemon tools one but when i get to the part where you erase the disk, i don't have the "disk." I only see some Vmware disks, and i'm wondering how i can get around that. Does any body know?

Thanks in advanced

hi

i have followed the steps until step 8 where i renamed the partition. only problem is that when i try to boot macosx it just boots windows. i tried setting it to active but still doesnt work!

Any ideas anyone?

i am using:

-A toshiba laptop

-Mac.OS.X.Tiger.10.4.6.X86-HOTiSO

There were no problems until then and I still can boot into windows.

Cheers

iam having excatly the same problems as you but iam using the Jas Patched 10.4.6 install dvd

is there any way to install 10.4.6 and just have the darwin boot loader show osx and my xp install?

iam realy starting to give up with this osx86 thing and wish i had kept my 10.4.1 that worked with no problems at all.

Did tou copy the chain0 file to your C:\ directory and add C:\chain0="Mac OS X" to your boot.ini

i seem to have come to a problem. i followed everything in the steps exactly (i am pc savy too) then it reboots to os selector. i go to tools-acronis disk director and it freezes half way..i leave it for an hr and its stuck

i restart and try booting osx and i get the hfs+ partition error and think its because its not the primary.

formatted and redid it and the same freezing happens midway. i installed it on a 50gb partition...anyone got any ideas?

Thanks for the reply, but I already did that. I mounted the ISO with Daemon tools (it is now drive E:) and in vmware i changed the cd-rom drive to E:. It boots, but the problem is when I go into disk utility. I don't see my hard drive, i see virtual hard drives created by vmware

Hey there,

I´ve read a lot in these days in this forum, and finally i decided to install OSX on my Toshiba Satellite A50 with goatsecx iso.

Well, i took some days and finally it works. I run 10.4.6 now on one HD with XP using Acronis Boot Manager now.

One hint for all people out there which are just about to bite your Mac DVD: It took me a while to find out that it is not possible to run MAC OS X on one HD with XP if you have another logical partition in front of your Mac partition!!!!

Thank you very much for this tutorial!

Nevermind, I feel so stupid :) I wasn't pressing Escape and booting from the CD-Rom Drive. Sorry

Awesome guide, add one to the success counter ;)

OK. I have a dual boot. I am using 10.4.6 and I used Acronis to partition but, I did it differently. I resized my Windows partition and gave myself 20 gig of free space. I then created an unformated primary partition and afterward changed the type to 0xaf. I then booted to the install CD and the rest is all good. The only thing that I can't figure out and I don't have working right is ...oh by the way I'm using chain0... but, if I go to select a startup disk then nothing shows up. I can't figure it out. What's up with this thing?

@wss:

A little more detail of your system please. MB, cpu, hard drive type... Which 10.4.6 release? Custom install of osx?

A few other questions:

When you select Windows in the ntloader, you boot in windows without problems?

(Just in case, recheck syntax/string for osx in your boot.ini)

Is the problem only when you select osx? By "nothing shows up" you mean a totally blank screen? Or does it just return to the ntloader?

And did you try installing OS Selector? If you do try it, remove chain0 reference in boot.ini first.
