lol, there's no magic, my cpu also supports hyperthreading.

i am kinda busy now, you try to look back at the 29 pages of replies in this thread, there are some people with kernel panic, maybe your question has been answered many times before.

@ nooutlet: you are success number 71! you can edit the com.apple.boot.plist change the resolution.

 

I did edit the file... The resolution sort-of works, although the aspect ratio doesn't translate correctly. I'm on a widescreen 17" and everything is stretched out, although I have the resolution set to 1680x1050, same as I'm running on my Windows boot. Any suggestions? Also, I assume that I cannot get Core Image or Quartz Extreme to work without a correct driver? The profiler recognizes that I have 256mb nVidia (0x10de) device, but that is all. IT also says resolution is set at 1280x1024, which appears to be what it really is. I have registered at and tried the MacVidia site, so feel free to ignore this question if you feel it would simple be a repeat of information.

 

On a related topic, I have an external monitor plugged in as well... Any idea how to get either a mirrored display or an extended desktop to show up on that one?

I've looked through all the posts in this thread twice so far and only two or three people said they had kernel panics but to no avail, HOWEVER, I just recently decided to stop bothering you and start bothering the people over at the JaS install thread where "Rammjet" started to help me: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...5178&st=260

Hi all,

 

I have suceeded dual booting Mac OS X. I used JaS 10.4.6 and already upgraded to 10.4.7 also using JaS installer.

 

I have an Acer 3620 notebook series (3623WXMi) Intel Celeron M 1.5 GHz (SSE2), 512 RAM (will be upgraded to 1 gb tomorrow), GMA 900, Pioneer DVD-RW DL, Atheros wireless, 80 gb HD...

 

I had never seen a Mac OS running, i did it because of a friend of mine said it was better etc. We since the first attempt, we always got a blue screen freeze after the grey screen with apple logo. I think we formatted and reinstalled over 6 times since last week with no sucess. :(

 

Then we tried with VMWare and it worked! slow but worked. After some reading in the posts, someone said it was an issue with the VGA out in the notebook. Then we pluged a CRT monitor and it BOOTED (using Chain0 plus f8+enter at os selection)!!! runned smoothly and much faster than Win XP Pro. No wireless though.

 

If anyone has a solution to this please let me know!

I'm almost done.... I still can't use the keyboard nor the touch pad in my Dell Inspiron E1705, I have an extra USB mouse, but not a keyboard...

 

also, dont know how to boot back my WinXP/media center

 

I have to boot with the install DVD, if this dvd is not inserted i get a "[xldr] ata error", but with the dvd in I can (barely) use the OSX

 

Most important now is how to get back to windows, any help? thanks

I have just finished install Mac OSX sucessfully..and I had dual boot (I saw Acronis ran fast... while other people complain about it :D ) but with some problems with my AC97 on-board sound card. However, I have fixed it by install extra driver.

P4 530 with SS3 (actually 3.0GHz but OSX shows 3.6Ghz :dev: )

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G

Sound card AC97

512MB of RAM running at dual channel

LAN Marvell Yukon

Not to sure. But I had to use Alcohol 120% to burn the ISO. After than it installed smooth. Now I just need to get my DWL-520 Wireless card working. Can anyone help me out with that?

 

Probably that Alcohol supports Apple's filesystem (HPFS iirc) and the other thingie didnt. That also explains why he only saw a couple of files smaller than 1mb and nothing else, i had the same when opening my iso with daemontools, but when you boot off of it it works fine. Just that windows can't make very much sense of Apple's

fs.

ok... i gave up, I was only able to run OSX using the install dvd, there was no mouse, nor keyboard nor sound... :( so I used a Knoppix cd to back the boot to the winXp partition, now I have an useless osx instalation... maybe i'll use it later for an Ubuntu installation :smoke:

Funny, I got it to boot using the DVD method but now in windows I lost 2 logical partitions with important files?!?!?!?

 

what's the dvd method? you booted with the dvd in your drive? can you access those 2 logical partitions in osx?

 

You can up the counter by one. Great guide.

 

I used the osx86_10.4.5_amd-intel_sse2-3.iso on my Dell inspiron 9300.

 

I got the Ethernet working, now all i need to do is sort out the display....

didn't you use acronis os selector? why cant you boot back into windows??? did you use my guide correctly?

hi #74, congrats on your success!

 

acronis waits about 6 seconds to load and i dont like it. i recently installed ubuntu 6.06 and GRUB automatically took over as bootloader... :dev: <- it's evil i tell ya, evil! but anyway, Grub is ok. i can still boot windows and edit it ot add osx, which makes darwin kind of lame.

what error exactly? were you able to boot into osx?

 

I have the acronis os selector. I click on the Mac OS shortcut and then I can see the apple logo but then the screen gets blue and I can't do anything, I can only move the mouse. Suggestions?

 

did you get an error message or just plain blue screen??

sorry, i would advice you to try a regular set of PS/2 keyboard and mouse, but i doubt that will do anything better. try posting a question in the installation forum.

 

Nice tutorial man! Ill be trying tomarrow once i finish downloading mac.

I downloaded MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso and I burned it to a dvd. When i try to boot it up i get the never ending Apple logo with the little icon that spins around. Someone on the firstpage encountered teh same problem, is there anyway to fix this I really dont want to wait for another one to finish downloading, right now eta = 1.2 days. Help me out.

How come it freezes at the grey boot screen when I boot from DVD? The Apple logo has a circle with a line in it when loading.

 

Im using the Jas 10.4.6 version on my AMD Athlon 64

 

PS My buddy also got this to dual-boot

You can officially add me to the list of working Mac OS X Tiger/XP Dual booters!

 

For extras, so far I have Ethernet, sound, and USB devices (digicam, MP3 player, etc.) working.

I also am lucky that my installation recognizes and allows me to read/access my NTFS partitions on the same hard drive (although no permissions to write yet :( ) As you can see in the picture provided, all the icons on the right side of the screen except for OSX are from Windows =]

 

For people who have the DFI LANParty UT NF4 Ultra-D Motherboard (maybe other NF4 boards, not sure) with the onboard Marvell Yukon Ethernet adapter, I have provided a link to the KEXT you will need (I tried it and it instantly worked, much better than the other methods I used).

My ISO filename is just "10.4.6.install.dvd.iso".

 

Here is my current desktop (yeah that's my comp :)), and here is About this Mac (says my Opteron is 3.0GHz, but only overclocked to 2.6 lol)

 

Next stop: tri-booting with a form of Linux! (Shouldn't be too hard, should it?) Anyone have any recommendations on which to get? Gentoo? Ubuntuu? Etc.

It worked!!! This guide is exactly what I needed, I am happy to report I'm writing this post from within Safari. While I started with an ISO that was 10.4.1, it is being updated to 10.4.3 as I type. USB is working, Sound is the next thing to work on.
