mikeh
Post just what the problems you have had in installation is, as most people here probably had a problem in one form or another and can help you out. Also, dilnalomo, I suggest sticking a link to DVD Decrypter, a great piece of software that was pulled off the interweb due to it's capabilities to rip DVDs stripping out copy protection in an evil, piracy way! It does however, do absolutely perfect ISO burning, and is free. I have used it for every ISO file I have had to burn, and it is quick and I have never had any problems whatsoever. yanr
Success over here as well. Like the poster above me, I have tried many different methods. At first I tried your tutorial 100% but always got stuck during the installation of "Essentials". Turns out my drive wasn't the best and could not deliver a continous stream for the installer. I turned to the other tutorial "VMWARE to Native", but again I ran into some hiccups. I got the 'error parsing plist' error. For any of you that may be trying it that way, be sure to set an adequent amout of RAM to the virtual machine. Once I upped it, the problem went away. Thank you so much for this tutorial, after a little lateral thinking on my part, and the other tutorial(kudos to the other author as well), I'm on mac OSX . Specs : 10.4.6 - Goatsecx ISO Toshiba Satellite 2410 1.8 Ghz Pentium 4M 256 MB of RAM (I'm going to put another stick of 512 in soon) Laptop's keyboard works fine, my USB keyboard and mouse work fine. Touch pad is very messed. Have not tried audio and my LCD native resolution is 1024*768, so no adjustments there were needed. dilnalomo
@ locuras: if you want osx only, its much much much more simpler. if your HD is empty with no os installed, just boot with the osx DVD to install it. if you have windows installed, you can format C: first then boot with the osx dvd, make sure you format it as fat32 not NTFS. @SauceHelmet: yes you can install osx on a separate HD, but you have to use the chain0 method to get dual boot(maybe acronis works too but i am not sure.) @inferno0270: lol, how smart is that dual-guide for dual-boot... mikeh
isn't linking to download violates the rules or something? If it is paid for software, but DVD decrypter is now free. No posting of direct links to warez or pirated pieces of software. We do not support the pirating of software. Saucehelmet, I had that problem too, there is a workaround Well, I've been formating, reinstalling, etc, and here's the results. Firstly I want to mention I had 7GB of unallocated space to create another partition, so I chose that to install a second OSX install partition. I used Acronis Disk Director (A.D.D.) and then Acronis OS Selector (AOSS) from their bootable disk. * I created a Primary Active partition of type FAT32 with A.D.D., and then booted with the OSX install disk; upon an attempt to erase (and format to hfs+) that partition the Disk Utility gave me the dreaded "could not read partition map" error. Bummer. mad.gif I retried many times, and the error message was still there. No "hit and miss", only "miss". * Knowing that I had succeeded before on installing osx on an active primary partition, when i had partitioned with diskpart and setting "id=af", I retried but this time in A.D.D., but rather than create a FAT32 partition I right-clicked the partition, chose Advanced->Change Type, and set the type to 0xAF (ShagOS swap). * I then rebooted on the OSX install disk, and now its Disk Utility accepted to erase/format the partition. Yeah! * I completed the install of OSX, checked that it was ok, then rebooted on the Acronis CD and with A.D.D. I put the Windows partition active again. * Upon rebooting on the Acronis CD again, I then installed AOSS, and on rebooting recognized both OSXs, Windows (and my two Linuxes). Side notes: * Before installing OSX, I made the Windows partition invisible (I like it that way). Made visible again after the install. * In fact, AOSS did recognize both OSXs, but my original one got a HFS+ error. A.D.D. showed me it's partition type had changed to 0xBF. I changed it back to 0xAF, and now both OSXs are accessible to AOSS. * I decided this time to install the Acronis OS Selector in a separate FAT32/non system partition, rather than my Windows2K NTFS one; maybe it won't be buggy this time. So why did the DiskUtility give me a "could not read partition map" error message when trying to erase a FAT32 active primary partition, while it doesn't when some erase a logical FAT32 partition? I don't know. But at least I could reproduce the message. And if I don't know the source of the problem, at least I know a solution: the importance of setting the type as 0xAF when installing directly on a primary active partition. It works, and although you have to find the right way to edit the type in A.D.D., it takes less time than a transfer from one partition to another. Also, maybe setting the logical partition to 0xAF also can avoid the occasional error you've been encountering in your guide. So when we've seen guides telling us to set type to 0xaf, now we know (i think) how it can avoid us trouble. I'll be editing my posts in this thread to reflect these observations. Anyway, by making the partition I was using to install OS X on primary, right clicked, change type and set it to ShagOS Swap and it worked, showing up and installing OK.
