That recovery disc is a must!

I installed my third boot (Ubuntu linux, probably going to install something else but had a CD lying around) and once it had installed, Grub took over my booting, which I wasn't too happy about.

All I had to do was boot of the recovery disc (which only took about 30 seconds to make) and click the button to reenable OS Selector. Voila, problem fixed in about 10 seconds.

Hey, remember me? lol, i wanted to thank you guys for the help. I got a 10.4.6 .img file somewhere, and I dd'ed it to my hdd for mac os. I have this for my grub entry

title=Mac OS X

root (hd1,0)

chainloader +1

And im getting an HFS+ file system error. Maybe its becuase its formatted FAT32 :) But I was told that would be ok. Any one know why it won't boot?

Sorry, I'm in the process of searching, just seeing if you guys know :happymac:

hmm..some people say Grub is better than darwin, win loader and OS Selector, why didnt you like it?

My (less techinically able) friends sometimes use this PC. A GUI on the loader is a lot easier for them :), they would probably find just text intimidating.

TBH, it only slows down my boot process by about 5 seconds anyway, I'm not bothered.

you get that hfs error, if you have not formatted the partition as logical fat32 before installing osx. then after installing you need to make the partition primary to get rid of that error.

w00t!! installation is go!!

But one thing, I'm getting no net. I'm going to try and fix this, other than that, works great. Runs just as fast as Linux and Windows do.

/dev/sda1 - Windows XP

/dev/sda2 - Linux /boot

/dev/sda3 - Linux Swap

/dev/sda4 - Linux root

/dev/hda1 - Mac OS X

:D

ps. If you have any ideas for my net, dont be afraid to say. It will shorten my searching time :smoke:

Acronis isn't even letting me partition my drives or anything now... i believe i'm gonna have to format everything... it just skips the process to do the work and tells me it's done when i reboot.

It finishes the process after you reboot. Thats how it works.

Thanks so much for the guide. Made installing a HELL of a lot easier :D

Bog standard Panasonic CF-18 Toughbook.

Intel pentium M 1.2Ghz

Intel 915GM

Sigmatel AC97

Dual-boot with XP!!

Jas 10.4.6 patched.

Bit of trouble with the laptop keyboard and touchpad, Nothing that searching the forums couldnt solve.

Had to manually add the DEVID of the on board sound.

Pro wireless 2200 not working but am waiting on another card, coming soon :)

..and obviously the touchscreen isnt working...yet.

Thanks for the putting the guide together, It really came in handy.

I had the same problem as you.

I used the method on P14.

Make the partition a FAT32 Active Primary (active in Acronis). Right click, advanced, change type and set it to ShagOS Swap (click at the top of the name column to get them in alphabetical order)

Once you have done it, the OS X installer sees it and you can do the erase thing.

Iso used - - MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso

Intel P4 3.02GHZ Precott

I guess you should add me to the success list

ISO: MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso

Specs: Athlon 64 3400+

1gb RAM

250gig HDD

ATI Radeon 9600

Soundblaster Audigy 2

(networking wired)

All sound, video and internet working 100% and very fast after doing the tweaks on this site.

Done with Acronis for partitioning and OS Selection

Triplebooting with Ubuntu linux and XP.

so you finally sorted out all your problems? you are 43~ :(

I've used this guide for two versions 10.4.4 Myz and 10.4.6 Goatsecx. Those two versions on my Dell 600m and my desktop.

Currently only running 10.4.6 Goatsecx

Specs:

3.2 Ghz Intel Socket 478

1GB DDR 4200

Asus P4P800E Deluxe

ATI 9800 Pro.

The desktop was definitely was easier to get working. My laptop is a lost cause because it doesn't have much driver support. The only issue I am having now with the desktop is when it sleeps. It just falls flat on its face once that happens, but I just turned that off under the system preferences.

I cant wait till there's some decent broadcom drivers so wireless and general networking would work on my laptop.

Works on my desktop both 10.4.4 and 10.4.6 fully functional and fast (need to tweak to get it blazing).

The laptop worked but lacked driver support.

I got mine working just fine with the help of this guide! I am dual booting xp Media center 2005 and OS X! The only thing that obviously does not work is the sound. It is the sigmatel 9200. I am patiently waiting for someone to fix this! Once this is working, I will remove windows. I used MacOSX_10.4.4DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso.
