hazkid
VISTA AND OSX on DELL Success! dualboot vista and osx on dell 4600. used JaS 10.4.6 and profit42 guide. installed 4 times before I got it right. selected intel patches. installed fine, but (obviously) wouldn't boot. used vistaboot pro to remove all items in the vista bootloader except vista! used mbrwiz to clear the active on vistas partition and set the hfs+ active booted into OSX! in com.apple.boot.plist (/library/preferences/systemconfig/) added the quiet boot key and set to "No", and added the timeout key. rebooted. Darwin loader came up, and gave me 3 options-39mb fat16, 25gb ntfs, 10gb darwin/x86. both vista and osx boot fine. Now, its time to install XP! -HazKid Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/26/#findComment-151461 Share on other sites
samo
worked great for me, this tutorial is nice and very clear, easy to understand even for the noobs. Thank you so Much i still have some pbs with my ATI X 300 mobility card, i have tried all the tutorials available in this forum but no way, it won't change de screen resolution. always the same pbs "no kext loaded", i'm getting mad. I also have pbs with my internet connection (wg511t, atheros card and broadcom 577xx ethernet card) here is my configuration: Dell Latitude D610: centrino 2 ghz: fsb 533, 2 mb ) nec dvd 6500d +- burner sigmatel c major audio (worked great) intell pro wireless 220 (not working) wg511t netgear wireless pci card (atheros, not working) broadcom ethernet card 577xx ( not working) bluetooth device worked great. If someone with the same configuration can give some advices, eveything will be perfect. Thank For Sharing Knowledge I'm using JAS 10.4.6 version Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/26/#findComment-151570 Share on other sites
hazkid
I completed a WindowsXP install on my dell. the dell will boot fine into the Vista bootloader (w/both xp and vista) using darwin, creating a triple-boot. The only issue is that trying to boot into XP from Darwin gives a "bootmgr missing" error. I thought pulling XP into Vista's BCD would help, but it did not. It would be cool to boot all three OSs from Darwin, and not have 2 bootloaders. UPDATE- copied ntldr and ntdetect.com from the i386 folder on the xp cd to the xp partition, and copied boot.ini from vista's partition to xp's. i removed XP from BCD, and now i can boot into all 3 OSs from Darwin! -HazKid Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/26/#findComment-151684 Share on other sites
digitalarry
Hey, I'm having trouble with every method I've tried. I originally wanted to just install OSX on a separate HD, but the Disk Utility on the Goatse disk didn't recognize the any hard-drives, regardless of what kind of partitions were on it. I then gave up on that, and installed WinXP on a primary partition, along with Acronis Disk Director Suite 10. After I installed Acronis OS selector, I rebooted, and the OS selector would hang. So, I'm back to square one. I tried hooking up an external USB drive, and it still didn't detect any hard-drives, whatsoever. I have a Asus P5WD2-E Premium, and in order to install WinXP I have to install ASUS SCSI drivers. I don't know how I would accomplish this with OSX's install, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! koolaidman23
I am about to give this a try. I have a Fujitsu N6210 Pentium M 1.86, 1.5 GB DDR2 RAM, 80 GB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon x600 128 MB. I will be using the 10.4.6dvdpatchedmyz.iso. Previously I tried to install my vmware image onto my usb drive and of course it didnt work, but at least I found out that darwin recognizes my video card. Wish me luck. Btw, even if this doesnt work, I think your tutorial is the best I have found online. Thanks for taking the time to put it together. strayrooster
dilnalomo, chalk up another success. I am brand new to any of this, and I just tried your method, and it worked FLAWLESSLY. I am still wrestling with the sound (need to install Sigmatel patch), but other than that, works great!! Wireless mouse worked right away, as well as track pad. I have an Intel GMA950, so graphics worked great without any tweaking (widescreen worked at boot). Unfortunatley, no onboard wireless JaS 10.4.6 OS x86 w/Maxxuss patches Sony Vaio VGN-FE660G Notebook 1.66GHz Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 Intel® 945GM Chipset 1GB RAM Oh, and the partition that OSX is on is between an XP MCE partition and a Vista Beta 2 partition, and works fine. Burning Dog
Does anyone have an idea about how I can get this to work if I normally have to install Asus SCSI drivers when I install Windows OS's? if think you can't get it to work execpt if the install DVD have the correct kernel extension to support it you can also try to find a supported PCI IDE/Sata controller that cpuld be recognized. maybe you can try setting it up on an USB drive (don't know if it work i didn't try). if you have a working kext for your SCSI controller, try to set it up on another womputer or VMWARE then transfer the drive (or dd the virtual drive) on your computer (make sure to have install the kext for your SCSI controller before) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/11339-howto-xp-osx-1044-1048-native-dual-boot/page/26/#findComment-154270 Share on other sites

koolaidman23
Ok.. I set up Acronis correctly, and the OS Selector, and then I created the logical FAT32 partition, no problem, and then burnt the image MacOSX_10.4.6DVDPATCHED_Myz.iso to dvd. I set up my bios, and booted to disk. I immediately get the error: System Config File not found '/com.apple.Boot.plist'. What is this?? It seems that the disk is looking for a file on a legitimate installation... and not finding it. Have I downloaded an .iso that was not patched?? Grr. I have been working on this slowly since Saturday and now that I have everything together I really want this {censored} to work. I am going to try downloading another .iso, but I wonder if any of you people have ideas?? Also I will try installing from my usb DVD-R. Thanks in advance. koolaidman23
I have figured out that I can press F8 and this will get me to the boot command. But now it is just wierd. It lists just one device to boot from, and it says "Ethernet Device" or something like that. WTF?? I suppose os x might not like my teac dvd drive. i havent yet tried to boot with my usb dvd-r. I will try that now. Also, I tried inputting "mach_kernel.nonx. That did nothing. Thanks.
