Thanks for this tut! Worked like a charm. I can control Front row via my internal Keyboard or what is more efficient using my nokia 6230i in combination with salling clicker 3.1

One question though: Is it possible to get Front Row displayed on my TV while i can still see the desktop on my internal display and keep working?

I was looking around on the Apple forums and apparently this isn't possible right now with frontrow even on a regular Mac, but might be implemented in Leopard. You might want to look around the forums yourself for new info on this as this was a while ago that I checked.

cheers

I've tried the frontrowpass.kext for two computers with USB logitech mouse. It's not working.

However, when I plug in the Apple Mightly mouse, it works.

Is it the problem with the Logitech Control Centre? I found that the two computers that doesn't work have Logitech Control Centre installed.

Mm no luck here.

10.4.8 - 8.8.1

Got frontrow from my OSX install cd

used FronRowPass.kext and modified it and put my USB Mouse ID's in there

but when i'm back in OSX command+ESC doesn't bring up frontrow :)

Is it possible to start it manually ?

And how about using my Apple usb keyboard ID's ?

On some of the latest Jas 10.4.8 installer DVDs, FrontRow packages and all other "bundled software" were completely removed (for space issues I guess.)

Could somebody post the original FrontRow.pkg? I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

doesn't work any longer with my 10.4.8 install.

maybe it has something to do with the fact that these libraries don't exsist?

<key>OSBundleLibraries</key>

<dict>

<key>com.apple.iokit.IOHIDFamily</key>

<string>1.2</string>

<key>com.apple.iokit.IOHIDSystem</key>

<string>1.0</string>

<key>com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily</key>

<string>1.8.4</string>

<key>com.apple.iokit.IOUSBHIDDriver</key>

<string>1.9</string>

<key>com.apple.kernel.libkern</key>

<string>6.0</string>

</dict>

in system profiler under extensions-frontrowpass.kext it says these dependencies are not found

do we need to change this in order to get it working in 10.4.8?

It works great with 10.4.8 jas/semthex b8:

Installed frontrow from 10.4.7 dvd (don't know if it's necessary), installed frontrowupdate1.3 from apple both using pacifist

Edited frontrowpass with my mouse id, and copy to the right place

repaired permitions, reboot

cmd+esc brings it up.

Thanks

I just tried this method on my 10.4.6 JaS build.

What do you need?

- Hackintosh with 10.4.4 or 10.4.5

- Installed FrontRow. You can find it at Mac OS X Install Disk 1 > System > Installation > Packages > .packages > FrontRow.pkg. You can install it with Pacifist (it is free http://www.charlessoft.com/ ) without any installer checks.

Use "Finder > Go To Folder" to open hidden folder (.packages).

- any USB mouse (!)

- FrontRowPass driver (it is absolutely legal simple mouse HID driver with sweet candy). You can download it at http://www.yuriev.info/FrontRowPass.kext.zip

How to ...?

1. Open System Profiler and and check your USB Mouse ProductID and VendorID (Hardware > USB).

2. Convert ProductID and VendorID to Decimal (Calculator > View > Programmer).

3. Open FrontRowPass.kext > Contents > Info.plist. And change idProduct and idVendor (decimal value).

4. Copy FrontRowPass.kext to /System/Library/Extensions

5. In Terminal

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/FrontRowPass.kext

6. Test it with

sudo kextload -v System/Library/Extensions/FrontRowPass.kext

6. Remove Extensions.kextcach and Extensions.mkext in /System/Library.

7. Reboot.

8. Hooah, comrades! Native FrontRow on your Hackintosh .

After everything and rebooting, Front Row doesn't work. When I press cmd+esc nothing happens. I checked system preferences, Front Row wasn't even listed in apps to add keyboard shortcuts to. Any help would be appreciated. Also, is there a way I can undo what I've done to try this all over again?

  • 2 weeks later...

* Grap FR 1.3 on Post #288 of this thread.

This is tested and working on an Intel SSE2 machine:

domino-computer:~ Domino$ uname -v
Darwin Kernel Version 8.8.1: Sat Dec 9 22:18:27 AZOT 2006; semthex:/nebukadnezar/BUILD/obj/RELEASE_I386

I got it working following AS's howto:

http://www.osxbook.com/book/bonus/misc/frontrow/

Basically adding:

<key>HIDRemoteControl</key>
<true/>

to AppleHIDMouse.kext

In Terminal

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/FrontRowPass.kext

Test it with

sudo kextload -v System/Library/Extensions/FrontRowPass.kext

Remove Extensions.kextcach and Extensions.mkext in /System/Library and reboot.

this guide was great it took me about 5 min to make it work on 10.4.8 wih the new semthex kernel

I just installed the frontrow package from my old 10.4.5 Jas with pacifist and then the 1.3 update.

the guide works like a charm everything works only when i play a dvd ( in the regular dvd player too)

i get audio but no video!

Does someone have a cure for this one

Thanx for eventual replies ;)
