Thanks. I finally had to use Rehabman's USBInjectAll kext. Now dealing with graphics problems.

USB mouse not working after boot into 10.13. Can't select anything on initial select language screen. Mouse is plugged into USB 2 port. Tried USB 3 port and still won't work. Any suggestions? Using Clover r4084. Asus Z170 board with i7. Installed by running Core.pkg and then copying over boot.efi. Using same kexts in EFI as used in 10.12.5: AppleALC.kext FakeSMC.kext HDMIAudio.kext IntelMausiEthernet.kext Lilu.kext NvidiaGraphicsFixup.kext Thanks.

The way I have been doing it for a while is as follows: 1. Use Toleda's cloverALC script. This places .zml files inside AppleHDA.kext. It places patches into Clover config.plist. It installs realtekALC.kext into Clover kexts. 2. I grab an unmodified DummyHDA.kext. I take the .zml files out of AppleHDA.kext and put them into DummyHDA.kext. I take realtekALC.kext out of Clover kexts. I take some info from the Info.plist from realtekALC.kext and add it to DummyHDA.kext. I leave the Clover edits as it. 3. Put DummyHDA.kext into /S/L/E which leaves AppleHDA.kext vanilla. 4. Often I have to rebuild the kextcache to get DummyHDA.kext recognized. If I have a new installation, I can just put DummyHDA.kext into /S/L/E and copy my patched config.plist to Clover. An advantage is this: on some computers, mostly laptops, sound gets unloaded during sleep. In order to reload the kext after sleep, it needs the enabler. With realtekALC.kext in Clover, it only gets injected at boot. It is not available if AppleHDA.kext needs to be reloaded. The DummyHDA.kext has an alias to the AppleHDA.kext binary.

On Yosemite or earlier: Insert the USB drive. Open Disk Utility. On the left pane, select the USB drive. Click on the drive, not any partitions that might be on it. On the right side, click on Partition. In the pop-up menu, select 1 partition. Set it to Mac OS Extended Journaled Click the Options button and select GUID Click on the Apply button. Run the Clover installer. Select the USB drive, click Continue Click on the Customize button Select Bootloader -> Install boot0af in MBR Select Themes -> (whatever you like) Click the Install button Reboot the computer Use the UEFI/Bios selector to select the USB drive to boot (F11, F12, F8, whatever it is on your computer) Boot the USB drive

Windows and Linux are designed to be installed on a combination of assorted hardware. OSX is designed only to run on the specific hardware combinations built by Apple. They only contain drivers for the limited set of hardware that Apple produces and for some 3rd party peripherals which they have approved. The kernel in OSX is compiled for specific processors. It is not built to run on the combined assortment of hardware that makes up a typical PC. Since Apple has not yet produced a machine with Skylake they have not compiled the kernel to support it nor to support the Z170 chipset. From man asr: --noprompt suppresses the prompt which usually occurs before target is erased. Remember I said in Disk Utility that you should first scan the image before restoring. If you have problems with that, you can skip the scanning but Apple does not recommend that. Or you can add a line in your script before the restore line to scan the image first. Again from "man asr": --noverify skips the verification steps normally taken to ensure that a volume has been properly restored. imagescan calculate checksums of the data in the provided image and store them in the image. These checksums are used to ensure proper restores

This is a basic feature in Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities folder. Open Disk Utility. Drag the dmg to the pane on the left. Click on the dmg in the pane. Go to the Images menu and select "Scan Image for Restore". When done, on the right, click the Restore tab. In the left pane, drag the target partition to the Destination field. Click the Restore button.

In El Capitan, go run this: /System/Library/CoreServices/Security Configuration.app

Both are very recent. The Nmap incident was only in the past couple of days.
