    Leopard is a Best-Seller

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today, Apple's next generation OS, Leopard, topped Amazon's best seller list. The single client version is first while the family pack is second. Currently, Amazon has Leopard single user for $109 and the Family Pack goes for $189. Some things to consider a day after Gartner claimed that Apple had a 8.1% market share: that Mac software has 5 of the top 10 spots on the list. Office 2004 is at 4, iLife '08 is 6th, .Mac is 7th, and Parallels is 10th. Also, 10 of the top 20 spots are taken up by Mac software.

    Apple's Market Share is 8.1%

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today, Gartner released statistics statistics saying that Apple's market share is now 8.1%. Apple's U.S. share grew 37.2 percent year-over-year, more than twice as fast as any other manufacturer ranked in Gartner's top 5 PC vendors for the three-month period ending September, helping it get a spot as the No. 3 U.S. PC vendor overall. Dell was able to maintain the No. 1 position in the U.S. market although its year-over-year growth rate was below the U.S. average, declining 5.5 percent. The decline was mainly attributed to weaker consumer growth.

    Leopard Roundup

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today, many people jumped with enthusiasm when Apple posted Leopard details on it's website. This is a roundup of what Apple said today.

~Academic Prices are Raised. Yes it is true, Apple raised the academic price to $116, so that means you save a total of $13 if you are a student. Yay.

~iPhone Note Syncing. This is one many people will be happy about. Notes syncing of some sort is finally coming to the iPhone. This feature will be integrated into the new Mail.app, and the notes folder will basically be handled like a email mailbox.

~New Leopard Server Information. With all the excitement over the Leopard client, we didn't even bother to notice that Leopard Server will also be shipping on October 26th. Apple has updated the Leopard server website with lots of details including:
iCal Server - Let's you share calendars across the enterprise.
Wiki Server - All about collaboration.
Podcast Producer - Your one stop shop for making, and distributing, podcasts.

~System Requirements. Intel, G5, or 867MHz+ G4 processor, 512 megs of RAM, a DVD drive, and 9GB of free disk space.

    Apple Announces Leopard!

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

While Apple has been silent about Leopard's release date, they might be coming out of the closet as soon as tomorrow. Many sources have said that October 26th at 6:00 P.M. is the final release date, and we all hope that Apple will let us know tomorrow. This past weekend, an internal GM candidate build was released, and this is probably the final. If Apple lets us all know tomorrow, this will have been the shortest time in which Apple has let customers get Leopard for a reduced price if they bought it after it was announced.

    Old iPod, New UI

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today, hackers released a program that installs the new iPod UI on the old 5.5 and 5G iPods. This mod doesn't install the new version of the iPod OS, but it changes the firmware that is on your current iPod, so you could potentially screw it up. Now if I could just find my old iPod I will report back to you.

    Mod Your iPod!

Recently on Apple's Australian website, there was a page that mentioned that Saturday, October 20th as the official launch date of Leopard. The page read:

Saturday doesn't seem very Apple, but it is nothing that a bunch of Apple fanboys won't be able to handle. But, this doesn't seem correct. In sunny California it is the 14th, a mere 6 days away from the "official launch date" of Leopard. Can Apple really do this? They will have to break the laws of physics, but I think they can.

No links. No pictures. No instructions on how or where to find it. Only my word that a beta version of Office: Mac 2008 is now available for download from "the usual sources". Oh, did I mention I saw a Demon and a PiG today?

Oh, and if you happen to get your hands on a copy, be sure to give us your take on the new Office. Thanks.
