    New Zunes Soon?

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Appleinsider is reporting that Microsoft might be updating it's iPod Killer, the Zune, as soon as tomorrow. Microsoft will release its first media player to employ flash memory for storage rather than a hard disk. The "Zune Mini" would be just 3 inches tall and 1.25 inches wide and would be smaller than the first or second generation iPod nano in almost every way, but it still would have video playback, WiFi, and the other features from the normal Zune. A picture of the new Zunes showed two devices similar to the 30GB Zune but with a square-like control pad and a narrower, thinner profile. At the time, the image pointed to 4GB and 8GB flash-based Zunes shipping in four colors and a lone 80GB hard drive model in black. Can someone say iPod?

Boot Camp to be Leopard only?

    By Colonel, in OSx86,

Now, we all love Boot Camp. It's the perfect way to dual boot with Windows right on your Intel Mac and we all know, Apple has provided a free beta of Boot Camp for Tiger users for the past several months. According to a recent support document posted by Apple, Boot Camp is beta software and it will expire. Apple claims that you will still be able to use your Windows installation after the Boot Camp assistant expires, but you will no longer be able to repartition your hard drive or burn the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows. They also state that if you want to ever use the assistant again for those said purposes, you'll need to upgrade to Leopard. The Boot Camp assistants 1.0 - 1.2 just expired yesterday, and versions 1.3 and higher are expected to expire "When Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard is available to the public". Apple has been known for brining back newer programs back to previous versions of OS X in the past, such as when Apple brought iChat back to Jaguar for a nominal fee, but there is no word if Apple will repeat the process with Boot Camp.

Sorry if it's a bit rusty, guys. It's been a while since I've done this.

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today Apple seeded builds of Leopard through Software Update. The update includes fixes to wireless networking and RAW image viewing in the latest development build of Mac OS X Leopard. The update is also being used to test new features with in the Software Update mechanism itself. Leopard is supposed to ship in October. If Apple does not get Leopard to GM soon, Leopard will not ship in October. If this is the same as Leopard's 559 Build, we will see a full update tomorrow if not sooner.

    Anti-iPhone Campaign

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Nokia has started to take control of Apple's iPhone situation by starting a campaign against them. The campaign was the posting of worded adds in New York City this past weekend. As Apple had warned, the software patch disabled versions of the Apple handset that had been unlocked to operate on wireless carries other than AT&T. The update added a few new features like the Wi-Fi iTunes Music Store. However, the update destroyed on a number unmodified iPhones and those iPhones which had been only modified to run third-party software applications but had otherwise remained locked to AT&T(like mine). Users who wanted to get help with their phone were turned away in the same manner as those users who had unlocked the devices against Apple's stated policy.

Apple's stance was met with outrage because, unlike unlocking, users who had installed third-party applications (like myself) simply to increase the usefulness of their pricey handsets. In addition, to those who had done nothing at all were suddenly being informed that they had voided their warranty on the iPhone and that they could not help them.

It seems as though the Mac is becoming more popular throughout the world. For the month of September, the percentage of users running the Intel version of Apple's Mac OS X operating system grew to 3.23%, up from 2.82% in August. Some of those users appear to have upgraded from systems running the PowerPC version of Mac OS X, which saw its share dip slight to 3.33% from 3.38%. When combined, however, Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac systems count for more than 6.61% of the worldwide computer installed base in September, according to Net Applications. That is a 40% surge from the same time a year ago, when both versions of Mac OS added together for a 4.72% share. It also represents an increase from August, when both versions combined for a 6.15% share.

Note: you have to add "Mac OS" and "MacIntel" to get the complete Market Share.

Apple also continues to survive well in the browser world, with usage of its Safari browser increasing a not-too-shabby 43% throughout the past year. Net Applications says that Safari was 5.07% of web usage in September, up from just 3.53% during September 2006. Usage of the Safari browser was also up more than 8% from August when it was 4.68% of all web browsers. Overall, Safari posted the largest share gain of any other browser during September.

Apple's Stock continues to rise and it is now near its all time high, at $154.04 at 11:31 Eastern Time.

    DownGrade your iPhone!

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

So, you upgraded your hacked, or unlocked, iPhone and now it is bricked. What are you going to do? Now, thanks to TUAW and 9to5Mac, you can downgrade your iPhone from 1.1.1 to 1.0.2. This downgrade is not very complicated, and, chances are, that if you were able to unlock it, you should be able to downgrade it. The downgrade process requires finding a few files on the internet, and adding them to one of the iPhone's folders. Once you've done that, simply type in some commands in Terminal and you are done! You have now downgraded your iPhone and it is now usable.

On a side note, the person who wrote this article said that TUAW's Erica Sadun is single handedly turning TUAW from a pompom flailing Apple Fanboy site into a L33T hacker underworld.

    Demonoid is Back Online(Updated)

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

After all this confusion, Demonoid is finally back online, which follows yesterday when their tracker became active. First, speculation was that the CRIA shut down Demonoid. Then, we found out that Demonoid was down for maintenence, it was a sigh of relief for all of us at the OSX86 community. Demonoid has this to say: “We received a letter from a lawyer represeting the CRIA, they were threatening with legal action and We need to start blocking Canadian traffic because of this. If you reside in Canada, that is the reason you are being redirected to this message. Thanks for your understanding, and sorry for any inconvenience.” So it seems that people that reside in Canada will have limited access to Demonoid from now on. Not much more is known at this time.
EDIT: Demonoid has now been confirmed to be offline again.

    How to Un-Brick Your iPhone

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Today, 9to5mac.com posted how to un-brick your iPhone that you updated. Only phones that were unlocked and that were upgraded could have been bricked. There is an unconfirmed bug that the 1.1.1 update is causing the same
IMEI activation message on AT&T GoPhone (prepaid) accounts. If you
tell the employee at the Genius Bar that this is a GoPhone account, they
will replace your iPhone right then and there with no further questions. You must have an AT&T SIM card in the phone, but the Apple employees have no way of verifying whether or not it is a GoPhone account or not.
