Today, many people jumped with enthusiasm when Apple posted Leopard details on it's website. This is a roundup of what Apple said today.

~Academic Prices are Raised. Yes it is true, Apple raised the academic price to $116, so that means you save a total of $13 if you are a student. Yay. <_<

~iPhone Note Syncing. This is one many people will be happy about. Notes syncing of some sort is finally coming to the iPhone. This feature will be integrated into the new Mail.app, and the notes folder will basically be handled like a email mailbox.

~New Leopard Server Information. With all the excitement over the Leopard client, we didn't even bother to notice that Leopard Server will also be shipping on October 26th. Apple has updated the Leopard server website with lots of details including:

iCal Server - Let's you share calendars across the enterprise.

Wiki Server - All about collaboration.

Podcast Producer - Your one stop shop for making, and distributing, podcasts.

~System Requirements. Intel, G5, or 867MHz+ G4 processor, 512 megs of RAM, a DVD drive, and 9GB of free disk space.

$16 student discount? WTF?!

Black Knight

I could have sworn that when I looked at that page earlier this afternoon that it said it was $69. I know that I checked again and that it says that for the departmental purchase, but like I said, I am almost 100% sure that it said $69 for students. Oh well, it doesn't anymore so I shouldn't {censored}.

doh, already preordered, guess it's time to cancel ;)

Anyone else notice that Apple took out all of the video demos of the new features? You would think there would be more interest now that they've announced the date.

They have to make new ones now that everyone knows about the space theme. For the people that think that all developers are nice to Apple. ;)

Well, all the vid demos are all out of date now.

Bleh. I'm 16, so no Student membership here. Well, I could fudge my age but something tells me that'll come back to bite me later.

Amazon has a $20 discount on it though. ;)

Whoh STOP! Sorry, but the Academic price for Leopard is $69 with free shipping.

I went to the local university's website, MU bookstore's tech website, which can be visited here, then at the bottom is a link entitled SHOP APPLE, which leads here. Once there, search for Leopard in the search box in the upper left, which will bring you here. Leopard should be the first thing on the list here.

I've checked other university pages in the past, but all have the same discount prices, so I'd like to know who made up this $116.

If any of the links after the first one don't work, follow the first one to the next in the order I've stated.

Haven't posted here in quite some time, but I had to stop this before it got too far. If Apple for some reason changes the website, I'll metaphorically eat my metaphorical hat.;)

Where?{censored}! I just tried this a different way and now I AM seeing the $116 price!!?? I'm not sure why this is happening, perhaps my school hasn't updated their student Apple Store!? But it doesn't make sense, it should have updated automatically!!OK, well if it changes in the next few days, then I'm sorry for getting everyone's hopes up. If not... I could potentially buy people their copy of Leopard with their money and ship it to them. Honestly, I'm not a spammer or con-artist. Just thinking it would be the cheapest way to get it.

This is strange. ;)

I doubt anyone will take you up on that offer, but you're only allowed to purchase two copies per academic year. Check the Apple Store for Education Shopping Agreement for reference.

Yeah, I wouldn't buy one from me either now that I think about it.:P

I guess I've successfully bummed people out and made myself appear overtly n00bish. If the mods want to just... quietly remove my posts...and forget this happened...I wouldn't protest. ;):hysterical:

And you are able to download it on this Friday. Being an ADC member really pays off.

Actually the student ADC membership does not include the Select or premier downloading software (at least that is what it seems from apples website)

I just figured out that your links go to your university's departmental purchase page, and it's the same price that my university has. Damn I wash I went in with my work and got the 3 year maintenance at $79. I am a Tech. Service Rep. that does do support on Macs, I should have gotten it. Oh well.

I just checked those links of yours and I too see the $69 price that I saw earlier today. So I wasn't dreaming. Apparently they changed the price on us today. I just checked my university's apple store site again and sure enough, I saw the same page that you did in your link going to "Apple Software" and it shows the $116 price. If I can figure out how to purchase using the departmental purchase without a PC Card, I think I could find a way to get the $69 price. Anyways, I'll get it eventually, considering I've loved the betas and can't go back to Tiger.

I don't see how they can call the 300 "new" (i.e. new to OSX) features, innovations... It's nothing ground-breaking

On the other hand.. I'm probably finally going to buy a MacBook Pro in November, I'm banking on Apple doing a refresh of the current models

i can't believe they're charging $116 for Leopard :) one of the things i've always loved about Apple was the great Education discounts they had, especially for the OS's

Same story here in the UK. Our education-discounted version of Leopard costs £59 if purchasing through your University's network.

I've mentioned it in other threads, but I'll get it down here again just to help get the message out there: anybody who's bought any new Mac (like me) on or after October 1st qualifies to upgrade to Leopard for a fraction of the cost. $9.95 for US and Canadian users, £5.95 for UK users.

It's also a safe bet that ADC members won't get it until about a week after the release. It's common for Apple to delay putting it up there for sometimes as long as two weeks.

So, I'll get my boxed copy before my ADC download. =(

Later this week I'll let you know how to get a legal copy for only around 109 (with free shipping) :D

why is leopard such a big deal. its gone flashy just just like vista did. and the worst part is theres no options in osx cant change the leo dock to an efficient tiger dock or the menu bar to none transparent, these would be easy enough to do but yet they dont. ill stick with tiger until i stop being bitter.
