Today AppleInsider discovered that a bug in the recently released iPhone Software 1.1.1 allows you to stream music to your Bluetooth Wireless headset. The glitch starts from the software's Visual Voicemail audio source feature, which lets users choose whether they would like to play back their voicemail messages via the iPhone's earpiece, speaker, or wirelessly connected Bluetooth headset. For some reason, version 1.1.1 of the iPhone software released this week fails to disconnect the wireless audio stream from Bluetooth headsets when a user leaves Visual Voicemail. It will instead continue to stream all of the phone's audio which includes keyboard clicks, shutter sounds, and music tracks to the wireless headsets. Try this out and tell us if it works!

    Insomnia Film Festival

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

On Saturday, October 13 at 9:00, Apple said they would post a top-secret list of film elements. Any college or high school student can choose any three to include in your movie. Then all you and your team have to do is write, cast, shoot, edit, score, and upload your 3-minute masterpiece within 24 hours. Apple said this should be no problem. Once the films are uploaded, anyone will be able to watch them online and rate their favorites. The 25 entries with the highest rating on November 9 at midnight will be screened by industry professionals, including Barry Sonnenfeld, James Mangold, and Nora Ephron. If your film is the biggest hit, each member of your film team will receive a MacBook Pro, Final Cut Studio 2, Logic Studio, and Shake so you can get started on that first movie. Good Luck!
    All times Eastern.

    Pacifist 2.5 Beta Update

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Pacifist, one of the only applications that can open Mac OS X Installer packages, which is useful when you do not have a computer that meets a certain system requirement, has just changed its version to 2.5. Although still in beta forum, it has some new useful features. One of the most important new features is the ability to use Apple's upcoming Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard's XAR file format. At this point you need to send an email to get the beta itself. This is probably the last version, he said, that is going to support Mac OS X 10.3.9, so this means he is looking for people with 10.3.9 to help him. Any people that get the beta from the site itself, will get a serial that works with the beta.

Amazon just released the Public Beta of Amazon MP3 today. Their store currently has 2 million songs, compared to iTunes' 6 million. The one thing that could threaten Apple here is that all 2 million of those songs are DRM-free. Also, Amazon MP3's DRM-free songs are a mere $.99, the same as Apple's DRM songs. The DRM-free songs on the iTunes Music Store are $1.29, which is about 30% more. But to the average end user, many people assume that they will just buy an iPod and not even care if the songs have a DRM or not. Although every song is encoded at higher quality as an MP3 at 256 kilobits per second -- as high as Amazon's rival Wal-Mart and slightly behind the 256Kbps AAC files of iTunes Plus. This is one of the more serious threats to Apple's market share.

    New Leopard 559 Gallery

    By Numberzz, in OSx86,

Thinksecret has posted it's long awaited Mac OS X Leopard Build 559 gallery on it's website. It includes pictures of the new Voiceover Utility, new 512 X 512 icons for Dictionary, Front Row, Directory, and Spaces. Also included in the photos are the new Mail interface, new Airport Menu, and a view inside the Directory application. Also, looked over in this build, preview has finally made the jump from version 3.5 to 4, with a build number of 467. Leopard remains largely unchanged from 527, but is showing signs of it being finalized. Speculation has been going around that this is a Release Canidate(RC), with only two major bugs listed. The bugs are a problem with Archive and Installing on a PowerPC system and a problem installing HP printer drivers on the computer. Developers can simply avoid the latter by installing the drivers through the Optional Installs on the Install DVD.

Microsoft has setup a new promotional website for Office: Mac 2008 with an emphasis on introducing the new user interface and functions, which share a common thread with Office 2007's Ribbon UI, but differentiates itself with Mac only effects, different groups and layouts, and exclusive features. For unknown reasons, an updated Entourage email client is still M.I.A. You can check out the new site here [Not 56K friendly...].
