Sources are telling ThinkSecret that Apple might release new MacBooks with the upcoming Leopard release. Sources believe the MacBook update will not be too big, instead having a similar speed bump the systems received last November ahead of the holiday buying season. It is unclear at this time whether this means the MacBook will maintain its current architecture and receive faster processors - the current 2.0/2.16GHz processors could be bumped to to 2.16/2.33GHz - or whether they will have the new Santa Rosa chips that the MacBook Pro got early this year.

I've been waiting to get a MacBook for too long, they better come out with them soon. And then have the 2nd gen of them out after MacWorld. For some reason, I'm iffy about the 1st wave. Yellow casing anybody?

what's missing is a macbook with 1680x1050 15" one

the lack of screen resolution choices makes it harder,....

unless you jump to the 17" ones,... up to $3.8k,... what is too much

some of my key apps, run at minimum 1280x1024,.... so I'd need vertical resolution,

and most people don't want an 17" to lug around, even if they can afford it,...

I think new macbooks won't have any Aluminum case. Because there was some reason why they introduced the black macbook. If there may be some upgrade next month, that will be Santa rosa macbook. They may know 64bit system should be ready for the switchers.

Huh... Anything with a C2D CPU is 64-bit.

You mean as in able to use more than 3.3GB of RAM? 'Cos that's a chipset bug in 945 :D

I'd be content if Apple dumped another GB of ram in it's macbook and made the change to santa rosa.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Macbook's casing didnt change at all. The new leopard parts of apples site show the current macbook plastered all over running leopard, wouldn't they have used say, the iMac if they were planning on getting rid of the current macbook look any time soon? santa rosa is a near definite.

I was thinking the same thing.

I agree... having a video card would provide benefits all around.

But isn't that the whole idea behind the PRO? I don't think we'll see that until 2008 when the Pro's can tout QUAD core chips and MB's a duo core and separate GPU - it was surprising to see the iMac with FW800, so who knows. However, the GPU is sort of under powered compared to a MBP - although for audio its fine and even if FCP and FULL screen, it plays well - - as you don't have to redraw all the lines and mixers in FCP compared to FULL SCREEN.

Me, I am excited to see the new FCP which someone I know SAW SAW SAW the new FCP and said it's very very very APPLE LIKE.

Even if apple threw in a cheap dedicated gpu, it would still make loads of a difference between the MB and MBP. The MBP stil has the larger screens, more powerful CPU/GPU, more RAM, and backlit keyboard.

But, will it still cost more than $1000?

Yep, $1,099 + tax :happymac:

I e-mailed Steve Jobs and said I'm only going to buy a macbook once they get updated. That'll hurry his ass up.

Probably sometime tonight, or tommarrow. The apple store homepage still has the pre-order option.
