  1. Plus, ask yourself - -how many Laptops have FW 400? Or DVI output? Dual Layer? And the new OS will give a speed boost of 30%+ whereas if you look at Vista Benchmarks, the 32 bit vista is faster than XP, but the 64 bit version is slower, plus, as it is now, I think OSX is a better OS, and now Leopard coming out? And it took Vista 5 years and you have to shell out a fortune just to get all the perks of the complete (yet intrusive) OS. I was a PC defender for a long, long, long time, (386 anyone) and I feel like OSX/Leopard is made with USERS in mind whereas Vista is made to keep MS more secure for them, not the end user - to me, there are no, NONE, 3rd party apps that work tightly integrated such as that of any Apple software - - all their programs work together, one exports to anothers format and vice-versa.
  2. True but try finding something like iLife that also integrates well to the PRO APPS (Final Cut, Logic, Shake), whereas regardless of price, you can't find good software that does the job so well.Example: FCP = $1199 Mac Only, used on many TV shows even some Feature Films.Avid Symphony (most use macs) but the cost is over $100,000And the bang for the buck, intergrated camera, iLife 08, iWorks 08 (all work with ANY MS OFFICE document for only $79.00), the machine is a killer. Now I will agree, the GPU is weak - until this is changed, it will always remain a sticky thorn until rectified which they did somewhat with a 20" glossy screen iMac with FW 800 for a $100 more. Also, these PC laptops you looked at - did it have FIREWIRE? Ability to run a screen 1900x1440? Tightly integrated software that in some way APPLE just trusts the user whereas MS has activation for everything and all their programs try to go online (snooping) which means extra CPU cycles. I'm an AVID PC user - - and used to defend MS all the time - now ask yourself - everything you do with VISTA means pop up - plus my HIGH END FIREWIRE AUDIO interface doesn't even have a VISTA driver, not to mention it takes forever to install. Then as keynote mocked (a little) one price, $129, not 5 different version, plus as I just stated, Apple and software (even 3rd party) all seem to work together whereas if you are a MS developer and want the MS certified, you have to pay thousands for that sticker - - and if you don't have it now, to my knowledge, I don't think Vista will install - and again, if you take for example a sound file and drag it to ACID or SONAR, the program does nothing whereas on a Mac, anything can export to PDF (Macs have built in PDF reader), export to word, for internet, phones, podcasts, and thats almost for any program - from iWork Pages document to creating a video to creating a website in less than 5 minutes. There is no competition for Apple and their 3rd party software developers - everything just works - I just wish we could learn to overclock them - that would be cool. Or would that be hot (pun pun pun).I used to think the whole experience thing was a farce - - but after my first hackntosh, I feel in love, then when I got a real mac, the programs are so creative, and the templates really get you going. In a nutshell, this is what it is... Bill Gates, Left Brain (EE/Programmer), Steve Jobs Right (Creative) - then you have something like this....Unreal 2004 Windows 500+ MBUnreal 2004 OSX 236MB or so. So what is the extra 264 MB needed for?Peace - - I love both and there was a time when PROS (Audio/Video) needed both (Giga and a few other APPS), but Apple is sneakingly biting away not only at the computer market with MACS....But a large chunk of:• Music Business• Best Looking MP3 players (okay not really mp3, but you know what I mean, and they are slick)• Communications (iPhone)• Television/Feature Film (Avid:$100,000 or Apple FCP $1199), Pro Tools TDM $10,000+ or Logic and Apogee ($499 and $1499)• Getting big mom and pop sales with new iMac• All their programs are YouTube exportable - • Website development - can make a website in minutes, with .MAC, the end user can do a LOT of things, and I do mean a lot.• Release new products almost every quarter - something that's never been done with Motorola Power PC and soon QUAD CORES in everthing and MBP's will come standard with 4GB• NEW OS in about one week - - OSX already (IN MY HUMBLE OPINION) blows Vista away- I can only imagine what Leopard will do, 300+ advancements and only once price and $9.95 for anyone who bought a Mac from Oct 1-Dec 29th.• Making dents in digital arena (Photoshop/Aperture) and will probably have more products to come.PLUS PLUS PLUS - - if you want, VM Fusion or Parallels will run windows if need be. So, imagine, deciding if you want to switch - - for $1199, you get a decent computer, duo core 2, that runs windows without a hitch side by side.I just don't understand why Microsoft can't come up with an operating system that is hands down, shows what took 5+ years and also has something similar to iLife 08 - - why can't they do that, why, why, why?! And one PRO Microsoft Zealot said, after reviewing Vista, it was in his opinion that Vista was made with MSFT best interest in mind instead of the consumer, whereas OSX leans more toward the user.Just my .02 cents.peace

    The Worst Thing about Macs

Well, I use both, I work for Apple as well - I have built PC's and overcloceked, and built a PC OSX machine for fun. So, that said, here is how I see it. When it comes to video/audio, everything streams and works well together, you know whereas MS has to deal with 3rd party - now, take away the anti trust laws and MS could buy a computer company and make their own machines which would probably be a good idea. As a former PC builder, Vista just didn't do it for me - they finally did get the search done (they invented it, apple implemented it faster), neither invented the Expose/Dashboard/Widgets, but in terms of templates, video, audio, I think MAC wins hands down. A weird example is this, for the pro sumer, the DIGI PRO TOOLS LE system DUC user base used to be MUCH MORE PC users, but since switching to INTEL, now the MAC users out number the PC users and with the likes of GIGASTUDIO being PC only having so much more competition from other sample devices and orchestral instruments (virtual) both PC and MAC, as well as APPLE having a huge turn around with new products, they are simply on fire. They release new products, update their CPU's almost every quarter or more....something OLD TIME MAC users are not used to. The thing about a MAC though, especially Mac Pro or Mac Book Pro is that they hold their vaule, for example, the old 2.166 MBP, non LED, slower and 40% slower in some apps than the same, (SAME, operative word, price) as the 2.2 LED MBP, they still sell used on Ebay or Craigs for $1600-$1700+ dollars - so they do hold their price. Now, with the new iMacs and high speeds, FW 800 (still wished they had a better GPU and express slot), the $1199 price tag is a lot of computer that could in theory last for years and years. Lastly, have you ever noticed that those that tinkle and prode their PC's overclock, tinker, et-cetera, always seem to have the most problems? The beauty of the MAC is this. Since they are a smaller market than say the PC, the templates and such are rarely seen by 85% of the population, so Windows users are always wowed. I know one guy, he bought a PC, then a Mac (Dual G5), he started shooting weddings - next thing you know, he edits for a firm in his home town (he moved from Los Angeles (high priced) to home (Kansas) cost of living less, and is a BIG fish in a small pond - - and makes a living having FUN, editing, adding music, et-cetera - - I think sometimes, the mac can lead to more creativity as it doesn't get in the way as much as windows and always gives you creative templates to get the juices going be it Final Cut Pro, to Motion, to Pages and iWeb templates. Apple is going in a great direction - they are releasing products at a record pace, the new OS will give most users a rather large speed boost whereas its been proven that VISTA is faster than XP (audio example) at 32 bits whereas 64 does not show dramatic improvement - the Mac on the other hand (if you watched the KeyNote), one app took 81 seconds to complete (32 bit) vs 21 seconds (64 bit), that is a huge difference, and keeping in mind, Final Cut is IS being used for TV, Logic is priced (audio) at a price that is a no BRAINER, its offers surround, high end console control, TDM (Pro Tools) support, and iWork, imports, exports to basically everything MS Office. With all the revenue that Apple is making, I think that helps us - haven't you noticed the HUGE dramatic price drops in PC's now? You can get a laptop for $499 and not be a slouch - now, will Apple ever release such a product? I think so, once the QUAD cores make it to the MBP, I think then we will see HIGHER end GPU's in Mac Books and lower priced. Steve seems to have a plan and if you look close - they seem to have a new release almost every quarter. Also, FWIW, I have $$$$ in PC sample software - but normally use the MAC - - am moving more and more toward the mac. Peace.
  4. As a Apple person, they are flying off the shelf - assume there is a new crack that is out - however we are databasing everyone and the way it works is no id no phone. Deal is with AT&T, but can't wait for new updates - am also excited about FCP New (know someone that saw it), true, true and true - very APPLE like and a departure from FCP as LOGIC 8 was a departure from Logic 7 and the STEEP learning curve. I wonder how many of you bought into MAC products due to this site.

    New MacBooks with Leopard?

But isn't that the whole idea behind the PRO? I don't think we'll see that until 2008 when the Pro's can tout QUAD core chips and MB's a duo core and separate GPU - it was surprising to see the iMac with FW800, so who knows. However, the GPU is sort of under powered compared to a MBP - although for audio its fine and even if FCP and FULL screen, it plays well - - as you don't have to redraw all the lines and mixers in FCP compared to FULL SCREEN. Me, I am excited to see the new FCP which someone I know SAW SAW SAW the new FCP and said it's very very very APPLE LIKE.

    Apple Announces Leopard!

Okay, a few questions: We should see an increase in boost correct? I watched the keynote and that program they had had a HUGE photoshop file type of program and finished 21~28 seconds, the 32 bit, finished in at 81 seconds. Also, I am thinking of selling my LED 2.2 MBP (6 weeks old) for a iMac since I do most audio (and the GPU is not as strong on iMac) but as a employee, we will get the OS free, so, I suppose it's duh to say, wait until Leopard is installed, then sell it. I also have iWork, Ilife08, Logic, FCP on it, so how much should I get? The 2nd question is, I wonder if the new FCP will come out - its our there - know someone who saw it - said it was very, VERY apple like, nt like iMovie 08, but Apple like non the less. Should be interesting to see who can get this working on regular PC's.
  7. Everyone waiting on new OS, possible new MBP and MB as well.
  8. Most of the time anything PCI will NOT work on a hack, but most FW or USB will work no problem as the device has its own driver ready for core audio. Peace

    Anti-iPhone Campaign

iPhone pretty cool, have only seen a few boo boo's - - some phones not unlocking (swipe), some also losing loudness, though the stores have loaners, and are protected for one year - for me, I still use a razor, want to wait for latest build and see if a iPhone NANO comes out.......Plus by Christmas we should see maybe a better promo - - I know we get a good deal now plus we get 14% off ATT even if we don't have an iPhone. What is the price you are paying for net? Ours is 69 for 1MB per second.Yours is double the speed.
  10. Yeah, all the iMacs are listed and at a good price as well as mac pro.Any ideas if there is a quad core MBP coming? If so, I would probably ditch before it came out, if of course, same price.Almost bought a iMAC, but even while barefeats shows the iMAC beating the MBP in some tests (even final cut), I tested about 6 iMACS and when you do a real time preview it stutters whereas the MBP does not (better GPU), the trick though for FCP on iMAC is do a full screen preview and it does not (GPU) have to rendering the whole mixer, screens, etc. and focus just on the video. The 2.2 is pretty strong though, so much better than my old overclocked AMD at 3.0 and hackntosh Intel 930 two core.I played some digital music last night, recordings, plugings, and no hiccups at all.The iMAC looks appealing with 2.8 (more plug ins) but no EXPRESS Slot, thus, down the road, no eSATA raid, which you can do with a MBP and have a raid system with two (2) HD's plus of course, pluging the camera (video) right into HD. Pretty cool stuff. Not sure there will be a quad on a MBP quite yet unless they plan on quad x 2 on Mac Pro, and also offer 16 core x 2 on Mac Pro, wow, that is silly power. More than NASA had in the 1980's combined. Yeah, all the iMacs are listed and at a good price as well as mac pro.Any ideas if there is a quad core MBP coming? New Zunes Soon?

I suppose it would be good if it were thing, hold a lot of music and make calls, touch screen, something like a iPhone NANO (older model, but all screen), something like that would be a huge seller. Imagine, old NANO 8GB (tall and thin), but all touch screen and phone/web device.
  12. It depends on the area - for example, there where no APPLE dicounts on the MBP, I just happened to get one one day old (returned next day for a glossy, so they marked it down 1799, then took of another 15%, so I guess thats 25. LOL. Anyway the point being not all systems are listed for the EPP Employee Purchase Program. The software is the best deal. Major savings there. Also a new FCP coming....very APPLE ish.
  13. In theory, I can throw a lot of plug ins at it with no problem.... But am wondering if the 2x2 cores will find them selves onto the new MBP before Christmas and since I work at Apple, I get a decent discount, and could buy a 2.8 Imac which is useful for plug ins but not for raiding two external HD's via FIRMTECK eSATA, or do I just hold on? Seem powerful, driving a external monitor and KEYBOARD, and cousin works at adonbe, so would sell with FCP, LOGIC 8, Adobe Suite for some easy money. Not sure what to do. Love the lightness of it though - and the LED are fairly new. Peace What would you do. Or build a great HACK once Leopard comes out and is solved? What's the fastest CPU duo core and cost? best mobo? Have a GOOD CARD on my old hack and never use it, should sell the GPU as its dual DVI and works great on the hack,
  14. I DON'T GET WHY opps, sorry about caps, (LOGIC and CAPS = playing from keyboard) wondering why people don't get apple care for te extra 2 years, I mean, I have seen MACBOOKS dead so they get a new one. Nothing wrong with that. 3 years is a long time - not sure other manufactures offer this.
